In this video I take the Canon R6 with the 24mm 1.4 Sigma Art Lens and a Tiffen 1/8 Black Pro Mist Filter out on a shoot with @zoegerbeek. We shot some beautiful portraits in this cane field and compared the difference between the images with the pro mist filter and without it.

For anyone who is interested; when Tiffen created Pro Mist filters they created the different strengths in order to provide a consistent level of filtration across the range of focal lengths because the filtration effect increases as the focal length of the lens becomes more telephoto. A 1/4 pro mist (black or white) will be much stronger on an 85mm lens than it will be on a 25mm lens. A common formula for using Pro Mist filters is 1/2 for 18mm and wider, the 1/4 for 25-35mm and 1/8 for 50mm and above. This principle applies to all diffusion filters. I hope this information is useful.
This is the first I've heard anything about focal lengths factoring into all this. So if I tent to shoot around 35mm and a bit lower, what is the recommended strength for that? I do want subtle, but not so subtle I'm left wondering if I should've just done it in post.
With the 1/8th, I could barely tell a difference too. But when I started using a 1/4, it's super noticeable, but just enough that it doesn't soften the image TOO much. It never leaves my 18-35
Thanks for the comment. I was confused on which one to order, but I'm going to purchase the 1/4 for my Sigma 30mm 1.4.
@@blackentrepreneur244 same here the 1/4 never leaves my 35mm. I feel like the 1/8 is just not strong enough for my taste. The 1/4 is just perfect for me
Videos are so chill!! Love it🖤
Love the video, Mitch! It really gave me a nostalgic summer feel as we are suffering through winter in the northern hemisphere lol! the shots look amazing and the composition and framing is very pleasing! amazing stuff man!
Thanks my bro 🤙🏻
Love love love this shoot, Mitch! So many beautiful shots here. I am a big fan of the channel! Great work 👍🏻
Thanks Zach!
Absolutely loved this! So inspirational as always! Also I picked up a Pro-Mist 1/4 and Im loving it
Thank for posting this video! very well shot all together!
Great video mate! And love your style of taking photos✌️✌️
Love it man! Sick shots as always. Great to see how the filter works for photos
Cheers Patty!
Please make a video on "how you click amazing portraits using natural light, best time to shoot portraits, backlit portraits" 🙏
Yes!!! I second this
Please mitch!!!
I have a portrait workshop coming out early this year :)
@@MitchLally wow i would love to take that
The way Mitch colour grades doesn't not make the most out of the mist filter. Just my thoughts. There's a strength in retouching with a mist filter and Mitch hasn't got that yet
Love the editorial/documentary style that comes through with the slow shutter!
Thanks Chad!
Mitch, another awesome video. Love your understated style - it's really quite impressive. Also, great music choice as usual too.
All the photos are such a vibes love it 👏
love this video. great vibes. I use a 1/8 on my 50 1.2 and a 1/4 on my 85mm 1.8. The 1/4 creates the bloom effect. try to shoot indoors with window lighting and you will see what beauty it creates!
Thanks for doing this video! ProMist is subtle here but it looks amazing! Great work as always!
Your video is the best! So cool!
I'm preparing to take portrait pictures. Thank you so much. I got a lot of help.!!
It’s nice to run into a video of yours when I’m looking up some info on pro mists!
Hey brother! Long time!
I love the colors of the video itself as well as the photos! -The soft pink sunset glow - What kind of filter/editing did you add for this video? Thank you in advance!
Such good vibes from the shoot 👌🏼👌🏼
Legend Julian!
It seems from what you can see from youtubes compression, that it does help to take that digital edge off the images, as well as softens out the highlights. Hopefully you do that 1/4 version would like to see the difference.
No dif with 1/4, i have this and i need the 1 promist
Amazing! Simply amazing!
Heyy Mitch, where u using an adaptor to fit the Sigma lense or this one was made for an RF mold???
Great video. I am curious what the ¼ filter would look like. I loved how subtle this one was, but the difference was rather negligible, or at least I couldn't see much of a difference on youtube. Thanks again for great content
Oh this is so cool!!! Would love to try!!!😍
Give it a go if you get the chance!
I have the Pro Mist 1/4 and some shots the effect is very subtle and not so obvious as you mentioned, but then you get others where the effect really shows and the results are stunning. I guess it's really a case of learning how to get the best from it... Anyway another great video and I would love to see more with this filter.
Absolutely!
Love my 1/4 BPM.. Your shots were soo nice... they looked very similar to if they were shot with moment cinebloom filter after your edits
I bought my Pro Mist Filter recently! Can't wait to try it out
Can’t wait to see your pics with it man!
Nice shoot with the pro mist, sadly my pro mist is broken! Now I am thinking to buy a Freewell glow mist! ✨
Pro Mist Filter is really good .. Thanks for another good Video Mitch !
Legend Jonty!
I finally have a 1/4 but haven't tested it fully yet
when would you use the lens bare naked no filter? what would you shoot for super sharp images ?
Love the look with the filter, Mitch 👍📸 Thanks for sharing. How good is that field with the high grass?! Would love to find sth like this around Sydney.
Thanks my bro! We had to head out of the city for this one, not sure of anything similar down Sydney way though :(
great shots!
Thanks!
I loved the video mitch, one question, won't you have a link where the photos are? or can you get it? :(
some are great for wallpapers
Sorry not for this shoot man!
I just love the dreamy effect , its a whole new vibe
Thanks!!
Is there a video on how to download presets into light room mobile for iOS?
Love your videos, can we download the raw files with the pro mist filter please🥺 please add link.
are you shooting wide open with the black pro mist?
Does it works if you are shooting with an external lighting? (Not natural light)
Great video as always when can we expect one on the new 50 mm 1.0 from Fuji?
I’m working with Fuji more this year so expect some more content!
Hey Mitch love the videos! Where are those cain fields? It's so hard to find that sort of stuff in Melbourne?
Cane fields are more of a QLD thing - we have a lot here because of the climate. Around grafton is where the fields sort of stop. Might be worth a trip if you like it? :) this particular field is in Stapylton, QLD. DM me on instagram if you ever need directions!
You really should have a direct A/B shot comparison.
now i want this filter lens
Hope you enjoy it! :)
Hi Mitch. Which do you prefer just for photography, R or R6?
R6 hands down. But if you can’t spend the big $ the R will still make you happy ;)
Nice photos, but 1/8 for stills is too subtle in this use case. You could have easily gone up to 1/2. In movie productions the tighter shots get stronger filtration because it’s less obvious, and wide shots get lighter values.
first time i have seen a mist filter..interesting!!
You should give the moment cinebloom a try as well.its pretty much the same vibe as the pro mist but way affordable!anyways love your edits man!
I don’t F with Moment as a company they’ve stolen my buddies work and used without permission so I will never endorse them.
Love this mitch 🌾 i love the glow effect, i always put down the clarity on all my photos. It’s my style ☺️ R6 is great, defs want to buy this filter for filmmaking! Love the location as well!!
Thanks Liz!
Great Video! Instant You got my immediately subscribe!
Your unedited shots were great
Raw Shots = Omg amazing wow Edited = How did u manage to fck that up so hard
thought the same about your profile pic :)
@@MitchLally true that i gotta say! Nice
Hey Mitch, What was the location of this shoot? Is it in VIC or NSW? Thanks!
it's actually in QLD. Yatala
Niceeee
still perfect Mitch :)
Cheers Sebastian

Thanks for the video.
Your model had great cheek bones and an exotic face. Wish you had taken more face shots and less full-length and ¾ length portraits.
I use 77mm Tiffen Black Pro Mist #1 and #3 filters on my 85mm f/1.4 Nikkor lens and on my 180mm RB67 medium format lens.
I do like your photos I think if I see few photos for different photographer I know which one yours
That’s a huge compliment!
Why do I prefer the look of the unedited photos?
Gotta get 1/2 or higher for difference
I use a canon m50 which pro mist filter would be a good one for
My lens I use a sigma 30mm
It doesn’t matter what lens you use - for subtle effect go for 1/8 for stronger effect go 1/4
@@MitchLally oh okay thanks man
im not a pro photographer but i didnt like the first photos on the field because you took some of the depth dark color away. less contrast. my english is not that good to explain that but yea. i somehow like the unedited more
2:02 and 5:39 nice shots 👌🏻
the filter reminds me of film tbh
no raws you want to share with us for this shoot? :(
Bro I want some too
Raws please :((
I will share raws for more camera / lens tests not for normal shoots.
I have 1 4 but i need 1!!! 1 is the best!!
Yes, so great that a $117 filters makes your shots stand out.
Where about is location?
Without the pro mist filter are popping. Not a Canon shooter but the LCD screen resolution is in its own league. Sony wake up. 😂
Yeah I love the screen too!
1’.49” puts unprotected filter in back pocket!
😳
These pics are a great example if its not broken dont fix it, the before pics looked far better then the edited ones, all those colorful orange tones all gone
dang I wish I cared
It's a shame that efect this filter provides was lost in the edit
I think that photoes were better without editing
Hold it in front of your smartphone lens and takes away the over sharpened digital look of iPhone photos.
1/4....1/8....????
ffs
pictures looked better before your grading..
Fujifilm users don`t need those filters :))) btw piece of plastic bag or cling film makes the same results .
2/3 photos without shapen on girl face. Canon ...
This video is so silly if you're trying to show us what the difference is between shots with and without the pro mist filter why are you showing us edited photos? It's makes no sense. Edited photos obviously completely change the character of the photo and are completely useless to the comparison. I like a lot of your videos but I just got to speak my mind on this one. :)
That’s fine man! I like to show the final product - most people edit their photos so showing raws to me seems pointless. But thanks for the feedback!
