Your granddaughter created a surprise for your birthday: a holographic map displaying everywhere you’ve traveled- not just on Earth, but through the universe. Considering you’re living on a spinning rock hurtling around a sun whizzing through a galaxy, you’ve made some real progress. But, how much, exactly? Fabio Pacucci and Lindsay DeMarchi explore how far you travel over the course of your life.
Lesson by Fabio Pacucci and Lindsay DeMarchi, directed by Vicente Numpaque, Hernando Bahamon, Globizco Studios.

Mother: you just keep watching those videos! You don't move at all!
Me: I moved 30000 kilometers today!
relative to the sun yes but relative to the tv? still zero!

To believe that on this small spec in the universe, this small particle of dirt is all we’ve ever known. Everyone you love, every country that existed, every war that was fought, every ruler that ruled, where you were born and where you will die. It’s incredible when you really think about it. No wonder she’s my favorite granddaughter! ❤
Very strong
One fifth of a LIGHT YEAR sounds very large indeed!
Grandma falls from stairs: "help I can't move"
Neil deGrasse Tyson: "well...actually...
If you feel that your educational experience hasn't prepared you well, TED is here to support you! It's a valuable resource for continuous learning-a school in its own right. There's always an opportunity to expand your knowledge.
Her voice sounds so enthusiastic! Love it!
Seems like she has a lisp.. I don't really like it..
The production of this video is indeed "stellar"! The visual artwork is out of this world, and the same can be said about the narrator's voice and interpretation. This is great, great work!
POV you are Jimmy Carter
Love the Freddie Mercury quote at the beginning! ❤
the earth is my favourite planet (sshh don't tell the other planets)
I wonder how far the earth has traveled since it was formed.
Some cursory googling says we've picked up 4.324 quintillion kms just by orbiting the sun. We've also made 20 trips around the center of the Milky Way, which has too many zeroes involved for me to do the math. I sadly can't find numbers for higher degrees of movement, like our relation to the great attractor.
I still need a vacation though...
"Who needs a vacation when you have a rocket launcher "
- Sam "Serious" Stone
The voice over sounds like a English anime dub😅
Yeah.. Sounds like she has a lisp.. I'm not a fan..
I did not expect a Freddie Mercury qoute cool
Oh my goodness that animation is magical!!!
OMG THE NOSTALGIA THIS SONG BRINGS- GOES HARD ON THE ANCIENT, MESEPATOMIAN AND GREEK ONES😭
Meanwhile my neighbour downstairs is celebrating her 100th birthday. Such an amazing person! 🎂❤
"This is such a creative and informative video! I love how you've shown that you can travel the world without even leaving your home. Your tips and tricks are incredibly helpful and inspiring. Can't wait to try some of these ideas myself!"
Figuring out all this motion just from earth vantage point human truly are smart and observant
The graphics are amazing in this video! :)
Life is A beautiful thing value you and it will value you
How many middle school and high school science teachers are planning to show this video to their students?
Loads, I hope. This is exactly what I wish I was exposed to in my younger years
See mom I am not lazy, I am always on the move.
thanks for the video!!! I love you ted ed💝💝💝💝💝💝💝💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💋💋💋
great topic, and great animation

I enjoyed the artwork in this episode
After seeing this I'm demotivated to travel anywhere - already traveling all the time.
Gorgeous
This is why I think time travel is impossible. Because not only you need travel through time dimension, you have to archor to your position on earth in 3 basic dimensions along with it.
Very fascinant
Watching this was a trip in of itself😅, the visuals!
This is what youtube was built for, thank you!
How To Make a Million Questions of Quantum Mechanics With Grandma
It’s interesting that the motion through space at different levels is all within roughly the same order of magnitude:
1B km/year around the Sun
6B km/year around the galactic center
4B km/year moving toward Andromeda
19B km/year relative to the Great Attractor
20B km/year relative to the CMB
Despite this, the video mentions our overall motion is around 19B km/year (1/5th of a light year div by 100 years), which is less than the sum of the above values. Is this due to different directions causing some of these motions to cancel out?
Also, the Earth's orbital path is about 1B km/year, so 600B km would be closer to 600 revolutions around the Sun, not 2200. Could you check that?
We do all this traveling for our entire lives, yet our parents _still_ tell us to go outside!
Lo and behold, this TED topic of how far you have traveled in one hundred years was posted on the one hundredth birthday of still-alive former United States president James Earl "Jimmy" Carter, Jr. who was born 1 October 1924.
One of the most beautiful animation video I have ever watched on RUclips!!
I am 29 and I have already lived long enough, I wish there was an option to donate life, I would happily be at the front of the line if there was to be a line at all.
I would love to give my life to a cancer patient who wants to live but life is fleeting away from them, I would happily give them mine to power their spirit to live and love a meaningful life unlike my current one.
I wish I could give away the only thing I have that I do not want to someone who could make the best of it.
Happy 100th Birthday, President Jimmy Carter! 🎉
All of this applies to you, too! 🥳🎂
where is her husband
Wtf
what a beautiful video =)
In a far away galaxy there is an alien scientist looking at us, a small dot on their very advanced space telescope, saying we are getting away from them faster than the speed of light.
Putting the lyrics of Don't stop me now at the beginning was brilliant!!!!
The narrator's keen voice and the dynamic animation are literally making this video masterpiece. I love what you guys are making. It's really helpful for me especially studying English :)
Nice
It's a great big universe, and we're all really puny. We're just tiny little specks about the size of Mickey Roonie.

It's interesting to know that we could have lived the rest of our life without knowing this information
I'm getting a feeling That this video will offend the certain Religious zealots. The 4.5 billion years, the complicated science and Earth shape will summon them like a zombie coming for your flesh😅
They will scream and chant words such as " Propaganda of Satan NASA," " woke content is corroding the youth😭,..." like banshee in steroids 😅
Believe me. Thai is just mild compared to their other insane accusations and conspiracies😆
The man who created the Big Bang theory was a Christian who was critiqued by atheists because the idea of the universe having a single point where it begun seemed too theistic.

how can you travel in this universe if there is no centre of this universe? you don't know in which part of universe you started and will not know where you finished
