In this video, Hugh Grant talks about although the Labour Party had fourteen years to do something about the Murdoch problem, he understands why they didn't.
Grant says: "You were frightened of falling out with Murdoch because at that time you still probably thought he could get you elected, but more importantly, this is the sinister business, there's an individual threat going on. MP's were terrified individually of taking on any of the tabloids, but especially anything from News International."
Thanks to the BBC.

I love Hugh grant and all of his films but after discovering his involvement in politics and looking into it, he really is very intelligent and big ups to him for fighting the big guys.
Oddly enough, I hated him as an actor and as a person when I was younger (mostly due to the cockiness), but his firm actions and advocacy against phone hacking and the actions of News International have made me reevaluate the man.
Rupert Murdoch and his sons are also major pedophiles.
Extremely rare case of an actor actually knowing what he's talking about when it comes to politics.
@Socrates @
@Aldiss Derleth In many cases because they’re corrupt and arrogant. The corruption means there’s dirt for the tabloids to use and ruin their reputations, and they’ve been too arrogant to cover their tracks.
I love in hope that eventually a big enough group of MPs grow backbones and decide to collectively take in the UK’s rotten, corrupt media, and that includes everything from the Murdoch & Rothermere gutter press to the BBC, which now offers nothing but client journalism and government propaganda. The MPs currently in power of course have no inclination to address this stinking issue, because without them they wouldn’t be in power.
@Aldiss Derleth Even if you are a saint the press can still misrepresent facts and ruin peoples reputation and lives.
yes and this wasn't it
@@jooger69 Two words; Jeremy Corbyn. Somehow simultaeneously a communist spy for Czechoslovakia, a Nazi sympathising Jew hater, a misogynist, a national security threat, a Russian sleeper agent, an IRA asset, a Hezbollah consort and ashamed to sing the national anthem. Most English people and Brits to this day still defend the monstrous lies told about that man, all because they could not defeat him in an honest political debate until the public bought Johnson's Brexit deal lies. Only in Britain and America do such smear campaigns brainwash so many people. In a parallel universe he won or lost that election based on his ideological and political merits, not based on irrational fear and hatred. Any intelligent person would say Corbyn cannot be every single thing the 'press' has ever called him..
Grant was magnificent on Question Time.
Grant has got a lot of guts to take on pit viper tabloids. The masses have to wake up and not be influenced or intimidated by so called negative information that IS USED TO DESTROY A PUBLIC PERSONS LIFE.
I'm innocent.....in this one 😂😂😂
Hats off to Hugh Grant.
I am not a fan of his films, but Huge has all of a sudden warmed to me greatly. He should do more politics often, he is good with words.
Its Hugh 😂😂not Huge 😂😂
He graduated from Oxford university with a first in English ! :)
Also, what you meant to say was that YOU warmed to HIM, not the other way round.
I'm a fan of his films and his words.
He’ll be devastated to hear you’re not a fan of his films.
Love Actually was right. Hugh Grant for PM
Proof of just how charismatic Hugh Grant is.
I never rated him much as an actor, but my respect has gone up for him 10 fold after watching him on QT
Grant puts politicians to shame
Intelligent and courageous
4:01 dont u dare try to hurry Hugh grant up.
I don’t understand how u can not like him??
You also don’t understand punctuation.
Nothing much has changed, given that Boris Johnson was just elected by the media
Is this full episode of Question Time anywhere on RUclips?
Was Hugh grant in character here or are all his roles just based on how he is IRL?
He is Daniel Cleaver, I’m convinced .
Used to think that myself, but his effort in The Gentlemen, (and less so Paddington 2!), have convinced me he can be versatile. He generally chooses not to be, because he doesn’t need to!
@@vonteflon His performance in The Gentleman was revelatory.
@@vonteflon The Undoing too. Anyone who saw Maurice and Remains of the Day already know he had it in him as a versatile actor all along.
@@seandomhnallosullivan2544 why would he be a secret tory when he's their biggest critic. I mean his Twitter is solely dedicated to mocking boris and the rest of them.
This should have more hits. I'm sharing the shit out of it. Brilliant. Murdoch Propaganda has no business in Media.
Well, I'm impressed.
I left the UK 15yrs ago. You dont realise what the British tabloids are like until you are away from them for a while
Time passed and we are basically back to normal with the tabloid press.
The Fountainhead in real life. Everyone is terrified of this media moghul.
I always thought grant was always up his own arse! Definitely a new found respect for him!
He’s a very sarcastic person he’s not actually up his own arse
rjohnners he's also very witty with a dry sense of humour. He's very good on Top Gear.
Hugh Grant = Hero
/ hypocrite
@@user-vh6ts9uf6c how??
Hugh Grant Is The King Of Movies
That high level arrests and soon, didn’t age well did it 😔
Why the possessive apostrophe in MPs ? This is the nominative case, not the possessive. This is an absolutely disgraceful solecism.
@dwyercatherine I WISH the media would not let his death fall under the radar.suspicious to say the least.
Grant pwned Douglas Alexander.
@dwyercatherine
what about robert maxwell and the mirror?
dead maxwell was on the payroll of mossad without being paid. he ratted mordeachai vanunu out to mossad who arrested him.
VODAFONE was always allowed NOT to pay billions in taxes !!
Crikey....gosh.
You been driving in to media. ' clowns agresivitet'
HE DID IT.AN ACTOR BRINGING DOWN AN EVIL EMPIRE.HES THE CURE FOR THE DISEASE
I love hugh grant
Ya no lleváis mascarilla, menos mal!!!! De ésto no hace 9 años. Os están engañando!!!! Es ahora!!! NUNCA HA HABIDO NADA!!!!
They killed. A Queen. God
Unfortunately I think Hugh Grant gets associated with his foppish stammering persona in “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” by a lot of people and he’s actually a much better actor than that. There was a period problem in the 1990’s where that was the only character he seemed to play in movies. Now we don’t see so much of him in movies and cinema I hope he’s doing proper acting or directing or writing in proper theatre . I think he’s a lot more talented than people give him credit for.
I’m glad that recently he’s been doing less romcom type roles and he seems to be really enjoying his political job which is great
Check out the gentlemen if you haven’t seen it. He’s good in that and completely different.
The Gentlemen, A Very English Scandal and The Undoing.
Rotherham happened. Telford,.....,......,... oh everywhere, well Hugh what are you saying to that? Andrew Norfolk is a hero you’re not.
