@@armandredman The 7#9 is actually a pretty standard jazz chord so he probably uses it a lot! It's also the hendrix chord E7#9. Love that chord! The tension of the major third against the #9 (which is a minor 3th) gives it that blues sound!
This man is an American treasure. Saw him live in Lawrence KS at the Bottleneck years ago and was standing about 10 feet in front of him. It was like a religious experience for me. One of my all time favs, and I’m a rock n roller at heart.
Thank you Mr. Scofield]. Dealing with loss of a dear friend today and was trying to distract myself to feel better. This beautiful music helped me sit with that loss and somehow feel better too.
I had the good fortune to have breakfast with Sco' in the late 80s when my spirit had run out of gas. He joked around, busted my chops and made me laugh. I felt much better. As I left that restaurant on 7th Avenue South, I thought to myself, "There goes one of the coolest people in the world." I've been playing and listening to music for over 50 years, "Still Warm" is in my top ten albums of all time. When you listen to Scofield, his sound, his ideas, his phrasing and his feel make him instantly identifiable.
A statesman of the form ....making a tender and graceful statement....almost as if a poem set to music....simple yet compelling....elegant and tasteful.....wow...thank you John 👏🏻🙏🏻🎸
John, once in the eighties I recall visiting a workshop from you in the Amsterdam Sweelinck Conservatory, we played "Recorda me" together and I got a compliment from the maestro. Further you gave so much valuable info which I study up to this day, God bless you and keep healthy in these difficult times, enjoyed your play here very much, Vic.
Miles Davis wasn't one to throw a lot of praise to his musicians, but he did to this man. I paraphrase from the Miles Biography I read, but he almost seemed to state Mr. Scofield was part of his inspiration to continue to create in the late 80's.
Te queremos John. Es increíble como le das vida a cada tema que tocas, aun de entrecasa. Siempre con el alma en cada nota, siempre por los caminos que te dicta tu propia voz. Gracias
Oldman Sco' you're the best. Saw you in Cambridge at the Charles Hotel last November and it was an awesome show. Loved that you played Self-Portrait in Three Colors as that's one of my favorite Mingus tunes. Hope to see you again really soon. Stay safe.
He played with Miles. He now plays with Jerry. Hope Jerry and Miles are sitting together discussing music and finish their conversation from backstage at the Fillmore. John- le grand joiner.
First time i have seen Scofield play a C and G chord :)
I was thinking the same lol
Yes was thinking the same, but C is C after all
he just learned them......
Downhill Phil M. True this guy haven’t play a regular C or G chords in decades but tell him to play a F#7#9 and he will make it look simple , 😂

From the craziest harmonies to the simplest melodies, this is one soulful dude.
Love you. If he were a tree imagine how deep his roots would be .
Beautiful...just beautiful.

Great to see John Scofield playing this. Beautiful
I don’t know why but I’m in tears watching this thank you. I feel you
music goes deep!
Super fine musician, I saw John plenty of times in the '70's NYC, he delivers.
One of Jerry’s late masterpieces ... in very good hands. Plainly, John is also a sensitive, caring, compassionate soul.
Unless you're loud at a gig! I've seen him chastise many a loud drunk LOL!
Two legends of music converge in the same space! #daymadebetter

Davis was also a fan of Jerry Garcia
