What makes this movie silly is that this would never happen in real life. A college professor can't fail a student for believing in god since that would legally be discrimination against the students religious beliefs. All the student would have to do is complain to administration.

As a Catholic Christian, this movie is pissing me off on so many levels cinematography-wise. Also it portrays atheists as evil and Christians as angels... Yeah, no, I'm not going to deep into this but nobody is perfect.
I see your point, though I’m pretty sure that their point was to have this young man deal with harsh persecution all around. Even the “Christian” girlfriend was acting harsh to him, not just the professor. Also, there have been times on this earth that sin and persecution have indeed been this extreme and more. In the Babylonian times people were having sex in public, throwing their babies into fire, and were being forced to worship their god or have harsh consequences (i.e. death). Not all of their movies show things to these extremes. And this may not change your mind, but wanted to give my 2 cents.
I used to call my self a catholic Christian cause I couldn’t decide what’s the truth. But not ik the truth God said you must be born again . You either a Christian or not
This looks like it provides a wholly inaccurate representation of atheists and their way of thinking. Rather than force a belief upon people, they encourage them to think without bias and realize that there is no rational evidence of a supernatural creator. Of course a professor shouldn't grade students on their beliefs, and you would be hard pressed to find any atheist professor who acts in this way.
I'm a Christian and I felt that this movie was a terrible caricature of atheist professors and just a bad movie all around. It made me sad because a movie about a young Christian going to college and having his faith challenged could be great... but this was just a cheapshot at atheists and fodder for Christians who want to stay convinced that they're right about everything. The idol of certainty is an idol indeed.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but whatever Professor Raddison was supposed to be, Levee from Ma Rainey's Black Bottom did a better job with the whole hating God for not coming to the aid of a loved one.
As a logical person I find the title and concept really weird. When you don't believe in something you say "I don't believe in xxx" or "xxx doesn't exist" you do NOT say "xxx is dead", because to be DEAD, xxx had to be ALIVE at some point! Like, who says "Santa Claus is dead"; "Easter bunny is dead", etc? I get that it's a Nietzsche quote, but it just doesn't make sense in this context. So the Professor had to tell them to write "God doesn't exist" (not that any Professor in the USA, regardless of his personal beliefs, would EVER do something like that, but that's a different question).
it is more of a catchy phrase than something that makes logical sense. it's way more powerful than saying "i don't believe in god" or "god doesn't exist." it implies that there's some sense of moving on from what used to be a very commonplace belief.
You're right, but you have to realize the mentality of the religious: presupposition is their game, their pastime and default. It is the standard practice in their circle of utter delusion.

Sabrina Labrina what Nietzsche’s famous quote “God is dead” means is that the concept of God no longer has universal assent in European society and has lost intellectual credibility. However, the concept of God underpinned moral and metaphysical frameworks and Nietzsche is chiding us for not abandoning what he sees as the baggage of God even while many would laugh at the religious.
In retrospect, this movie is pretty good. Its absurdity borders films like The Room, where eventually you find yourself enjoying how surreal the whole thing is. Very few bad films manage to be so bad they're entertaining. It's actually quite an achievement
Having his students write down "God is dead" means he's recognizing that there is a God. For something to die, it has to exist therefore he's contradicting himself. That's pretty bad logic, especially for a college professor. Maybe he's the one who should get an F.
It's a quote by Nietzsche basically saying that God is irrelevant in modern society because it has been sufficiently refuted. It doesn't mean God actually died.
@@alt8791 Of course, but in reality this would never happen. The professor would have to defend their assertion. I haven't seen the film, but from the trailer the professor is supposed to representative of a wider problem, which just isn't accurate.

This move isn’t about depicting how atheists are. The professor wasn’t even an atheist, he was simply angry with God and resentful, and he disguised his feelings by proclaiming he didn’t believe in Him at all. This movie is about showing how God is always there with you, even in your darkest times, and just because He doesn’t answer your prayers doesn’t mean He didn’t hear them. “God is good all the time, and all the time God is good.” This quote sums everything so beautifully. LadySaundra well it’s more of “bad” because they wholeheartedly missed the arguments atheists go for being “I don’t believe” into a “I believe in the nonexistence” very different arguments. Kinda why I dislike this series it’s just one big straw man fallacy
LadySaundra atheists don’t advocate the the positive assertion being “there is no God” more of responding to the assertion of “there is a god” with questions ie asking for evidence, for the Bible to have logical sense, and how biblical history fits into our modern understanding of the world. In light of these response many just have a “lack of belief” and as many Christians put it, they have “faith” whereas atheist just have a lack in faith. No positive assertion of the opposite, just the rejection of theist’s positive claim

@@annamanz7652 it should be obvious that I meant brainwashed BY Christuanity. I'm pretty certain Jesus would say we all need prayer and on top of that who are you to judge anyone? No man is righteous before the eyes of the lord and that includes you. According to the Christian God we are all equally sinful. Christianity is an oppressive institution that predatorizes the poor, the uneducated, the sick, and the desperate. I've got nothing against Jesus but the general population of people who affiliate as Christians have done a lot of harm to the world because of this indoctrination and group polarization. This movie vilified Islam by ironically depicting them the way Christians treat their LGBT children. And this movie was outright racist to Asians with the son speaking if I recall correctly, Mandarin and the dad speaking Cantonese. This movie was just pretty much every hateful, ignorant, fallacy-ridden argument used to impose Christianity on other people. I think the second movie would be more realistic in real life. Having a teacher risk losing her career because she simply "discussed" some scriptures from the Bible, despite not trying to pressure or force her own personal beliefs on any of her students.
No really 😂 I just don't like how they took Nietzsche's words and considered them only for their literal meaning. There's so much more than that. He was a German philosopher, and when he said "God is dead" he didn't mean that Jesus didn't come back from the deads. It''s not like he was Christian but still. Anyways in his work "Joyful wisdom" he spoke about a prophet, who embodied himself as a philosopher. And this prophet went around screaming "God is dead, I killed him!". What he meant is that he looked through reality and he demystyfied all western values and certainties by showing their inconsistacy and decadence. It was something that regarded religion, moral, philosophy and culture at the same time. His goal was to prove that they hadnt been established by some kind of divine authority or they weren't innate in mankind, but they changed through history and men came up with them, also depending on their interests, even though they thought these values were eternal and universal. And saying that God is dead, to Nietzche, was like seeing without filters and beliefs all the cruelty, the lack of reason and the laceration of the world. So it meant to be alone in front of the infinite, the absolute, the incommensurable without the comfort of some tale or some certanties. He wasn't looking for evidence that no God existed, he wanted to show how people came to have faith and to believe there is an order, a providence and a harmony in the universe: it's because men needed to protect themselves from the thought of death and chaos
Nietzsche didn't need to profess "God is dead" to promote the idea that people can't live without faith. It is ironic that Nietzsche, an Atheist, would say people can't live without faith. What he said was blasphemy! All of his followers are trying to interpret his infamous saying as a quirky expression that means something other than what it clearly states. When I say, "The food is bland," I don't expect people to interpret that as "people need to believe that the food has flavor in order to enjoy the meal despite me telling them the food has no flavor." It means what it means: the food is bland. However, it's not as bland as your attempt at making the saying "God is dead" sound like a good virtue.
@@nothingtoprove2533look he didn't simply state that sentence. It was part of one of his works, and its meaning is explained pretty clearly. So I'm not talking about how "I" interprete his words, I'm talking about his own thought. I studied it this year in my philosophy class, it's not like I'm inventing it or something😂
Hahaha yes, love this thread. "God is dead" must be one of the most often misinterpreted statements out there. Nietzsche was looking at society as a whole, as a historian and an anthropologist. He realised with the advent of modern society, the old foundations of faith that held up religion had started to crumble. And you can't uncrumble foundations. In stating God is dead, Nietzsche meant that the sociocultural strength of Christianity is inevitably waning in the West. The more important question is, what next, because we can't go backwards at this point. Just my interpretation ofc, Nietzsche was very allegorical with his words. But he certainly wasn't saying what most people misinterpret him as saying.
You can believe in god in just 1 way that is his way no one absolutely no one can push you into it, I really hope every1 gets a chance to experience him
What is this silliness? I have absolutely no problem with anyone's faith, and I wouldn't wish to change anyone's faith. But can anyone tell me, are there are *genuine* examples of professors talking about failing their students for their religious beliefs? We wanted our brother and sister to know God, for their salvation. God created us, hence, I believe we should live a life that glorifies Him who created us. Aside from that, we should be living a life abiding to His will and desires. @M. Zacharias895 it is. humans are selfish plain and simple. your brother is just admitting it. even doing charity and helping the poor is selfish in some way, because your deriving benefit from it. this isn't a problem with humanity, it's just a fact of life.
@M. Zacharias895 Selfishness in its nature is not wrong. What's wrong is hurting people in order to appease your selfishness. However selfishness is not only that. Selfishness is imposing a boundary on someone; it is not allowing people to walk all over you; it is allowing yourself pleasure despite the fact that other people in the world are suffering

Plenty of counter-arguments about religion, politics, and other controversial topics were welcomed and entertained by my profs. This movie is picking a fight that ain't there.
So, based on your personal experience in college, you dismiss all of the documented cases that differ, where professors have not been "pretty dang chill?" By that logic, I suppose Marilyn Monroe, Jim Carrey, Elvis Presley, Adolf Hitler, Abraham Lincoln, and everyone else you have not personally experienced, never existed. It's great that you went to a college that allowed free discussion, but that certainly does not mean that all, or even most, do. What makes this movie silly is that this would never happen in real life. A college professor can't fail a student for believing in god since that would legally be discrimination against the students religious beliefs. All the student would have to do is complain to administration.

I see your point, though I’m pretty sure that their point was to have this young man deal with harsh persecution all around. Even the “Christian” girlfriend was acting harsh to him, not just the professor. I also would say that they filmed this not as a necessarily accurate representation of what you would see in college today, but to show an extreme and to show how the young man dealt with that in his faith.

Of course a professor shouldn't grade students on their beliefs, and you would be hard pressed to find any atheist professor who acts in this way.

It make sense because it's a philosophy course, to study philosophy you have to study quotes and different points of view
it is more of a catchy phrase than something that makes logical sense. it's way more powerful than saying "i don't believe in god" or "god doesn't exist." it implies that there's some sense of moving on from what used to be a very commonplace belief.

Your said, "I have absolutely no problem with anyone's faith (same as mine), and I wouldn't wish to change anyone's faith (well, on this, I wish and I will try to help other as someone also help me to know Jesus Christ) sometimes we think, It is ok to just leave someone on their belief (false belief) but brother we need to proclaim the true gospel, it is not for our benefit but for the benefit of that person who is hearing the gospel if he will seek and know the truth about God. We wanted our brother and sister to know God, for their salvation. God created us, hence, I believe we should live a life that glorifies Him who created us. Aside from that, we should be living a life abiding to His will and desires. Not our will and desires, because our wills and desires are full of sinful nature, our flesh desires are full of sinful nature. That's why God wanted us to live abiding to His words, which give us life. Life that is abundance. Brother, did you ever think why the world has a lot of troubles now a days, hate crime and every other types of crimes? Because, most of us are living in our own knowledge and understanding, our own will and desires. Imagine, if we only humble our selves, no longer our will and desires but God. The world could have been a better and a happy world. I hope and pray you understand what I want to tell you.

Funny how the contradictions and inaccuracies in the bible aren't discussed in this movie. Maybe because the Christian religion would get debunked easily.
What contradictions and inaccuracies are those.

I remember this movie I love it and idc what y’all say gods not dead and maybe you need him in your life go read a bible cuz he’s gonna come one day nobody knows when but you might wanna have him in your life when I feel depressed or stressed I pray to god why because he helps me you might not hear him but he hears your prayers and he’s gonna help you when you need help you can’t just give up on god he’s alive and your his child and he loves you🥰♥️
Thanks but my only god is chairman Mao Zedong
Hey Izzy, just wanna let you know that you can actually hear God every single day if you actually wanted, God gave us this ability through the Holy Spirit. Just pray and ask God to give you the gift of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. God bless 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽❤️
i believe in a higher power for sure, im always thanking the universe, but i’m not gonna spend my whole life and miss out on things for a person i don’t even know is real or have never met lol
Hi Lily Good afternoon. I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. Believing in God is not a crime. No one should ever be targeted because of their beliefs. Love and Kindness is the fabric of our entire universe. It's time we start showing and giving loving-kindness to others and all living beings.
Featuring music by the closest thing we could find to sound like the Foo Fighters.
God Bless you all.
no atheists would ever act like that
@M. Zacharias895 it is. humans are selfish plain and simple. your brother is just admitting it. even doing charity and helping the poor is selfish in some way, because your deriving benefit from it. this isn't a problem with humanity, it's just a fact of life.
@M. Zacharias895 I never said that selfishness is wrong
@M. Zacharias895
Selfishness in its nature is not wrong. What's wrong is hurting people in order to appease your selfishness. However selfishness is not only that. Selfishness is imposing a boundary on someone; it is not allowing people to walk all over you; it is allowing yourself pleasure despite the fact that other people in the world are suffering
I am not religious. Never will be. But I know with all my heart that Spirit ( The Creator, Heaven and the Angels ) are all real. So is Jesus along with the other great teachers of history. I have experienced miracles firsthand. I hope this helps others to realise that we are loved unconditionally and supported, no matter our belief systems. We are never alone.
They say God's not dead, but what's he doin up in Heaven then?
Idk all the answers in life, but heaven is the better life. it’s way better then here. he created a temporary life down here for freedom. But enternal life is heaven. where it’s peaceful and a gift to be up there.
True @@peopleseditz
I watched it today. It was actually good.
Some believe god is dead. Some don’t. Some think god never existed. Some believe in another. Some people don’t care
thank you
Some people are right, some people are wrong. Some will choose the path to eternal bliss, through Jesus. Some will refuse Jesus and thereby choose eternal seperation, in Hell. We should examine the evidence to find the truth, because there is nothing in this world more important than where we will choose to spend our eternity.
Just because there is or might be a higher power or something bigger than all of us doesn't mean I'm going to fear or bow down to him (or her or it)...I'm not renouncing the higher power, but I'm also not going against it...same with Hell (acknowledge it may exist but don't sell myself to it)...Maybe just maybe I simply want to go my own way without beliefs being force-fed (coming from a raised Roman Catholic)
@@brandonveltri2825 You have your choice to go your own way. God gave us all free will, but He also told us that our choices have consequences. Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth and the life, no man shall come to the Father, but through me." Going your own way means going against God's way.
God is not dead. if nothing else, god is at least a feeling you create in yourself, & that part of god can never die
If this movie took place in a country where Christians are actually persecuted, it might make some sense. But since the movie takes places in the United States, the entire premise seems completely ridiculous. A movie similar to this that showed how atheists or Muslims are persecuted would make more sense in the United States.
GOD’S NOT DEAD
Did that 'Meet the Spartans' money run out this quickly?
Her gf should've supported him and helped him defend God
Yes, His girlfriend should have. Good riddance to her. She was bossy, controlling and unsupportive.
If a meme of the conservative Christian persecution complex was turned into a feature film, this is what it would look like.
Now you have a paedophile as your president.
But Christians were really persecuted and are being persecuted in many places on the planet.

@@jonmcalister1802 Yes, but christian media tends to be overly exaggerated, as seen here
I don't see why y'all commenting here have that much enough hate for GOD. All of that is nothing but jealousy because nothing else is like him. HE is the creator. You hanging on theories because that's what you all have. GOD himself is life. and to all of us reading HE gave us lives. But in the end we become so mean to him. Is that how we repay everything he gave us and created for us?? Indeed we will be the ones losing. Not GOD.
Not everyone criticising this movie is an atheist
I watched this before going to college and expected my professors to be assholes. Then I got there and found out most college professors are pretty dang chill.
Watch the movie "Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed," and you will see lots of examples different from your own. You can watch if free, on youtube.
@@buckbuchanan4902 Instead of providing a movie, why not provide a single actual case that accurately depicts the plot of this movie?
@@buckbuchanan4902 If you had put any research into that movie at all you would know that the people responsible for it were deliberately dishonest in order to try to win their argument. Read an article or two about it.

This should be classified as a horror movie. It's the scariest movie I've seen in years.
1 Corinthians 3:15
If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire.
Hebrews 10:39
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 13:5
Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
I think it's high time we all recognized that education is evil and that thunder is angels bowling.
Great series!! and yes there are atheists out there who behave like that, but I also know about friendly atheists who would never be this disrespectfull. We are all individuals.
Agreed. I loved what if. Hope this one is good
Agreed: the atheists I know are not like this.
Without God there is no morality.
Let's pack the theaters out! Whatever you pay for a movie, your paying to support the ministry of Christian movies & your gaining encouragement to stand up for Jesus!
Jesus doesn’t have enough money?
Jesus have no money for another mansion again?
Superman & Hercules are talking about God man.
Without humans, God wouldn't exist.
Other way around.
When you start to educate yourself and understand Astronomy you will understand a fictitious character is just that a fictitious character created by men. We are nothing compare to our universe and how insignificant we are but at the same time how amazing it is to be alive.
I CAN'T WAIT TO SEE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you still feel this way, 9 years later?
I miss this movie
So this movie falls down at the very first premise. That the lead character would be the only theists in a US university philosophy class... No other Christians Jews or Muslims....Highly improbable, if not impossible. There would be protests outside his classes in week one. Few atheist philosophers would state the non existence of a god with 100% certainty. The general position is disbelief subject to evidence.
The persecution complex is strong.
