Just got these bars today. Super easy install and they look amazing. Easily a one man job. Trickiest part was removing the caps on the stock rails to remove the OEM crossbars. The bars are such a huge visual and utility upgrade over stock and significantly less cost than a full rack. Perfect for those of us who don’t use our 4Runners as dedicated overland builds.

Nice video extremely helpful. Thank you. Additional tips, get two ladders. One for each side of the truck, Get two towels, one for each side of the truck. Watch video on pulling end caps of on youtube...be very careful.....don't tighten down the front to much until the others are placed. thread your nuts before install to where you can slide them in snug on install. Drivers side bolts turn towards front of truck. Passenger sides to the back. Pull your towels out before locking down front. If you have front wing fairing piece, put on the protective strip first. ( I actually cut about 2" of mine) Took me a little longer than 41 minutes but pretty simple modification.

At 8:57 you say these 4 steel LFD xbars were cheaper than OEM. Huh?
On Amazon, 2 OEM bars are $114 (free shipping w/prime), so a set of 4 would be $228 - and, being aluminum, they wouldn't rust and being aerodynamic they're supposedly silent, and if you bought 4 (vs. the standard 2) for extra support, you could probably mount a refrigerator up there, evenly loaded.
The LFD "steel" (not aluminum, not stainless steel) bars are $80 each or $320 for 4 (plus $28 shipping). Stock = $230, LFD = $350. And, due to the higher wind noise (than stock) you still likely need a fairing, too (which, at LFD is another $40, so now we're up to $390. Basically close to $225 vs. just shy of $400.
    Am I missing something?

Another great video! I just sent my stock roof rails in for powder coat because I like this route.
    Questions:
    1. I know you got the steel ones, but I also saw aluminum LFD crossbars...other than alums being more expensive and lighter, was there any other reason you went with steel?
    2. If wind noise becomes an issue, do you know if I can just add a wind faring to the frontmost crossbar, or do I need to install the LFD rails to add the wind faring? I could probably just call them but thought u might know.
    3. I get my Maxtrax boards today. Do you know if MaxTrax boards are easily mountable using the MaxTrax mounting pins with the LFD crossbeams? Can u mount the boards facing front to back, or is it only right to left? I’d much prefer mounting them vertical to the crossbars to reduce wind noise.
I do like how you don’t have to remove the plastic rear end caps to install these crossbars...on the other side, I guess they are easier to steal??

    • @JB-by8tw
      @JB-by8tw 6 лет назад

Disregard #1 and #2...I ended up ordering 3 LFD cross bars (2 steel and 1 aluminum).
As far as the Max Trax are concerned, LFD customer service assured me that there are many ways to mount the Max Trax.
Not sure how the wind faring will look with the factory rails...still on the fence about it.

    • @TRDJon

So sorry meant to comment back! People have said that with adding some bolts to the top the wind noise has reduced. And yes maxtrax will have zero problems mounting

I rem9ved them to return them and I discovered the fairing has dug into the paint on my 4Runner. I was hoping LFD will help with the pint, but they only offered to send me a touch up paint. Pathetic customer support and crappy design. I can confirm I was not the only one who had this issue as another 4runner forum member also returned the product.

Toyota rack is plenty strong. I have had 12 sheets of 3/4" plywood or 15 sheets of 5/8' Sheetrock on the roof at slow speeds and short distances many times and have not damaged them yet. I don't know how much weight that is, but I can tell you that is plenty heavy. I would like to know what is the weight rating on these cross members if they are stronger I will get those when I get my 6th gen 4Runner. Been waiting about 5 years already, this is ridiculous.

I purchased the LFD cross bars from Victory 4x4 and was very disappointed that they provided no installation instructions . Even worse the bolting system requires the removal of the end s of side bars separating the ends from the side bars the inserting all the bolts .
Upon discovering that and with no instructions I went back to the vendor and asked one for instructions and two for about system that was shown on your video where no end caps or side rails detached from end caps . I want to slip the rails and bolts without any end cap removal as per your video.
