For many years on my old cheap 2x7 GMC Denali road bike I had a zip tie holding the back brake liner against top of the frame, this stopped the single pull cheap brake calipers from sliding out from center. Even properly setup they still always slid out a bit thus making uneven braking. The zip-tie solved this and for many years never had an issue with the back brakes again. Always carry some zip ties with you they are a life saver.
George I have my own hack when it comes to calbing. Instead of putting on end-caps I'm using a spot welder for nickel battery packs to weld the end. I use a cheap battery driven hand held one for convenience.
to take it one step further, rather than using those pesky lead cable-end caps, I would use spoke nipples as my cable end cap. The flat-head of the spoke nipple would be the cable end and they easily crimp with flat-pliers on the tube portion of the spoke nipple. We just just had hundreds of useless spoke nipples around the shop and we found use for them as cable ends.
Thanks for taking the opportunity to show us that it really does work. Definite hack!
Hack for sure. I can usually get by twisting them up with my fingers but I'm definitely trying that on the next stubborn one I come across!

Genious❤
Very cool, so it doesn't partly unwind again when you trim the cable?
Just a tiny bit but when using two hands you can prevent the unwinding and put the end cap on.
glorious. just drop a bit of solder on it then cut. end caps are sort of kluge.
Ha ha a solder iron is worth more than this bike 😂
@@SeeYouUpTheRoad Aye. Just seems like the thing to do.
