I love how she explains her reason for having her son study in Ghana. I had forgotten she spent time there. She is so very well spoken. A legend. Indeed she will be missed. I am glad God blessed us with her presence. I was able to hear her speak years ago and i know she was celebrated in this life. Amazing woman

She sounds like a Savannah, Georgia drag queen, but an actual woman, having a mint julep and catching the Vapors.

I cried a little. The way she goes on into explaining her experiences, I felt that.

This title along with 'I know why the caged bird sings' is one of my favourites in her autobiographical series.

Most only think that racism is just towards blacks, but it has been my experience, my whole life till this day, reverse racism is the worst. To be looked down upon because of my ancestors evil actions. May Allah open the eyes of everyone to this double edge sword. Amin

What have you done to correct the sins of your ancestors? It will feel hard if you did nothing but benefitted from the sins of...
I guess of you did something...then u can see i tried in the name of my ancestors to do this and that, and yes allah you saw my tries...than being bothered by the double edge...

Reverse racism is not "the worst" because if there was no racism to begin with, there would be no reverse racism. Also racism, by definition, is directed towards people who have done nothing wrong but who are despised because of their race. I agree that everyone needs their eyes to be opened so that all racism ceases.
