I was on holiday in Jamaica in the 80s, and could clearly see it,with my own eyes ,no need for DNA testing,as it was that obvious.what a waste of time money and resources.
I’m Japanese American and I visited the Montego Bay/Ocho Rios area of Jamaica last year but the people would only refer to me as Chinese and blatantly say “ching Chong ling long” to me (not even sure why), and I often saw people pulling their eyes up to mimick racist Asian eye gestures. The men were extremely prone to doing all this while also somehow hitting on me and thinking these comments helped, while the women didn’t seem to like us because they knew their men wanted to sleep with us and there was heavy colorist culture that placed value in people having lighter skin, which was truly disturbing when we saw how people preached racial diversity and acceptance but also would bleach their skin and would always compliment/look jealous of that part of us. The children were wonderful and genuinely very excited and curious to interact with different looking people so it goes to show that it’s just the bad sides of the taught culture because the people at heart are truly one love, especially so when they are young children who are not taught to hate their skin yet or believe certain things about different looking people. I tried to explain my heritage to our host and even related it to all the Japanese cars they commonly drove, or the anime their kids watched, etc. but he looked so puzzled. He genuinely could not understand and only referred to me as a “Chinese gyal” before saying the whole “Ching Chong” line. I don’t think they were trying to be racist or offensive, they just don’t actually understand racial diversity as much as they like to think if there are truly so many different kinds of Asians who live there. I’ve faced racism in the U.S. too but people are at least aware and educated on the different types of people and not trying to be offensive, perhaps due to the uglier history of racism in this country than Jamaica. Was truly an eye opener on the nuance of race in each country.

Not ‘ALL’ Jamaicans have Asian DNA. It’s a minority. Asians came to Jamaica in the 1840’s as indentured servants. It was during this time that ppl of Congolese descent came to the Island. They didn’t spread that much across the island to make such a blanket statement. ‘Some’ Jamaicans have Asian DNA.

I am Jamaican and my grandma look like chinese when she was young. Most of my siblings baby pictures look asian. I have Asian features.

One of my aunt looks straight asian and she lives in the east in the Chinese community.

I’m Japanese American and I visited the Montego Bay/Ocho Rios area of Jamaica last year but the people would only refer to me as Chinese and blatantly say “ching Chong ling long” to me (not even sure why), and I often saw people pulling their eyes up to mimick racist Asian eye gestures.
The men were extremely prone to doing all this while also somehow hitting on me and thinking these comments helped, while the women didn’t seem to like us because they knew their men wanted to sleep with us and there was heavy colorist culture that placed value in people having lighter skin, which was truly disturbing when we saw how people preached racial diversity and acceptance but also would bleach their skin and would always compliment/look jealous of that part of us.
The children were wonderful and genuinely very excited and curious to interact with different looking people so it goes to show that it’s just the bad sides of the taught culture because the people at heart are truly one love, especially so when they are young children who are not taught to hate their skin yet or believe certain things about different looking people.
I tried to explain my heritage to our host and even related it to all the Japanese cars they commonly drove, or the anime their kids watched, etc. but he looked so puzzled. He genuinely could not understand and only referred to me as a “Chinese gyal” before saying the whole “Ching Chong” line. I don’t think they were trying to be racist or offensive, they just don’t actually understand racial diversity as much as they like to think if there are truly so many different kinds of Asians who live there. I’ve faced racism in the U.S. too but people are at least aware and educated on the different types of people and not trying to be offensive, perhaps due to the uglier history of racism in this country than Jamaica. Was truly an eye opener on the nuance of race in each country.
Me mix up too. Am an African descendant. My grand father's are African Jamaican. One of my grand mother on my mother side is Indian. My great grand mother is Cuban White. My father mother looks like Indian with curly hair white. No matter what color we are humans.
