16 minutes in and to my absolute delight, Myself and my brother closest to camera waiting for 50008 , I was 17 then on a all line rover for a week, did a massive amount of mileage.
That’s great ! Always nice to hear from someone captured in my videos, but you’re only the third one, I think. I was only 25 myself at the time - happy days 😊👍
Brings back great memories, Reading was always a great place to spends the day. I first went there in Half Term Feb '73 with some friends just after the last 'Warships' were withdrawn. Plenty of 'Westerns' and 47's, with some 'Hymeks' and 31's as well as Intercity Unit's, Pressed Steel 117's, 'Tadpole' units. Then later as seen here with 33's 37's, 47's 50's, 56's. Today not much. Still some great memories from yesteryear. Thanks for the terrific footage.
Great video, some rare captures there, Platform 3 in passenger use, 47050 rescuing 50040 on the 1700 Oxford -Padd and 47430 on a Freightliner. 430 was extremely rare outside of Anglia when she was based at Stratford as an Aggregates loco. They used to like to keep hold of her to cover when class 86's were unavailable for the Norwich services, inspection saloon runs, etc...
Great back in the day footage of Hoovers operating Since 1967 to other Machines shown Nowadays ,Amazing Sounding Beasts .Alot better then todays Generation of trains ,The sounds Locomotives back then is memorable like the Valenta Paxman Generator in the 125 was like wow greatness.Transport me back to those days with a notebook and pencil taking down Numbers and info about these locos before Health and Safety BS.
My home station, I used to love going here when I was a kid in the 80's and early 90's. I used to love the sound of Valenta powered HSTs, class 50's and the thumpers that used to go to Basingstoke from Reading. Don't get many interesting trains through there now, apart from the odd rail tour, lots of sheds hauling various freight, and also two of the 57's used for the Night Riviera. You do get some of the network rail stock through there as well, but usually late at night or very early in the morning.
Absolutely wonderful footage. Loved the sights and sounds which really brought back memories as I was working on BR Western Region at that time. You filmed it all so well. Many thanks for uploading for us all to enjoy, Just come across your channel Have subscribed and will now work my way through and enjoy your other videos. Best regards.
Yes I did, but only with the still camera, never the video unfortunately. We used to go to Twyford quite a bit, Hanwell and Newbury a couple of times. Wish we’d gone to more places now, obviously; but at the time I don’t think we realised how quickly that ‘golden era’ would be over.

Apologies for the late response, been busy, yes indeed really takes me back to more analogue time!
Analogue then, yes, but thankfully it’s the digital age has enabled me to share this video and discuss it with others 😊😊
I remember Hood pulling out of St David’s with a proper inter city train in 1984. What a noise it made!
Hood; my most filmed Class 50; so glad it was preserved. Thanks for commenting 👍😊
