  • This video is a compilation of clips of Class 50s in action on the Waterloo-Exeter route between London and Yeovil Junction, filmed between 1988 and 1990. These have been put together in route order.
As with my other compilations, these clips have already been posted to the channel, as part of their respective dated video clips.
[All photos used in the opening sequence and the background music were taken/ written/ played by me.]

What crap you write! The whole video hardly got out of Waterloo and only just managed to reach Salisbury!

Excellent video! The dates and labels are so helpful for a project I'm working on. Quick question: Until this video, I didn't realise there used to be a signal box west of Basingstoke. From a Google around, it looks like it might have been called Basingstoke 'B'. And going by the date labels, it looks like it was demolished between April and September 1988. Do you think that's correct? Do you know anything about it? Not a lot of info online.

Hi Mark, glad you enjoyed the video and that it’s of some use. However, tbh I hadn’t noticed the ‘missing’ signal box until you pointed it out! Sorry I don’t know the answer to your question but hopefully one of the other channel subscribers will! There seem to be plenty of ex-railway viewers, maybe one of them can fill in the gaps 🤞

Love the ununiformed fella jumping off loco at 3.00 sans hi viz, then proceeding to run across the third rail tracks 😮

I noticed that too. Kinda crazy. You wouldn't see that today! Saying that, I don't think that track had 3rd rail because back then that was one of 2 loco sidings, just long enough for a couple of locos to wait for their next service, so it was probably "relatively" safe to do what he did.

Or even adjusting ballast with a giant fork next to a live rail. Ooerk. 😮

Waterloo - Salisbury, so is this part one of two or was west of Salisbury to much for you? LOL Edit : One Yeovil shot okay.

Well the title is factually correct, the 50s were on the W’loo Exeter service! , it’s just I didn’t venture west of Salisbury with the video camera that often, hence no shots after Yeovil.😆
