Trains in the 1980s - British Rail Class 50s - A compilation of 46 of the Class in action!

- This is a compilation of 46 of the Class in action (mostly, sadly not for 013 Agincourt) at various locations in the south between 1988 and 1990.
Each loco featured, in Class number order, gets one clip, and the film lasts slightly under 1 hour.
Unfortunately I have no video footage of 006 Neptune, 010 Monarch, 011 Centurion or 014 Warspite, so these aren't included in the video.
All still photos used are my own. The intro music is the beginning of a track called 'Desktop Symphony' by a duo called Non Beviamo (which is me and Mrs Geoff!).
I hope you enjoy it - please let me know what you think in the comments.
thanks
Geoff@OldOakTrains.
An outstanding compilation Sir! Bravo!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just over 50 minutes of Class 50s on my 50th birthday. Thanks for another great video.
Happy birthday! 🎂 Glad you enjoyed it. Geoff@OldOakTrains. 👍😊
I spent 20 years working out of Basingstoke Depot as a Com Guard and then another 5 working on the Platforms and around the station, ending up in the Station Control Point. It's great to see vintage footage of my station. Although I still find it emotionally too taxing to visit the station itself, (You can take the man away from the railway but you can never take the railway from the man!) seeing clips like these certainly makes the loss a little easier to manage. Thank you!
Thanks for commenting and watching. It’s always nice to get comments from those who actually work/ worked on the railway, and I’m so pleased my video(s) have helped to bring back memories as this was my main intention from uploading them . Thanks again. Geoff @OldOakTrains.😊👍
Poor Agincourt remember going on a train to London about 1981 -82 pulled by Agincourt
Love the video mate, especially the clip of me 50 031 'Hood'!
Well if you like Hood, you’ll like the Paddington station videos on the channel. By some fluke, it was my most filmed Class 50. Thanks for watching. 👍😊
These clips seem to be towards the end of their time when the 50s were on secondary duties (Waterloo- Exeter and Pad - Oxford shuttle) I remember them on the west of England expresses and enjoyed travelling behind them on the Cornish Riviera Express non stop from Paddington to Exeter St David’s just before the HSTs came in. Was never keen on the NSE paint job. Great video- thanks
Thank you for commenting, always interesting to hear other enthusiast’s memories of a golden era. Glad you enjoyed the video. 👍😊
Great video. Used to see a class 50 with a single dmu carriage drive through the chiltern line every midnight back in 1984.
Thanks for sharing 😊
@@OldOakTrains You’re Welcome 😊
great stuff.. love it!
Glad you enjoy it!
Great compilation with almost every 50! Thanks & good job.
Thanks. People seem to like the compilation format, I might do some other Classes/ Types. Thanks for the feedback. 👍😊
My personal favourite is 50049, only because it looked good in Railfreight & also looks good in contemporary GBRF blue as well! 😬
Sadly it is one of the locos I was unable to capture that often. Also, since 2006 whenever I’ve seen it, I’ve not had the video camera with me - or it’s been stationary at an open day etc. Luckily nowadays there’s always the ‘phone! Thanks for watching and commenting. 😊
7 should have lived on in green to today - classic livery!!
Pity they changed the name though, from Hercules, in my view. Why couldn’t they just have repainted a couple of 50s in the Great Western anniversary green and left the names alone, like they did with the 47s?
My Lords an near hour very nice. You know you will have to please the other lot with 2 hours of that other type 4, LOL. anyway very good to see them all... of those you caught on camera again many thanks. keep up the good work.
Thanks for the feedback. 😊👍. Well yes, I did think as I was putting this together “I wonder whether a compilation of 47s would be of interest?” Of course, for those particular Type 4s, I could do one hour of passenger and one of freight…….. watch this space ! 😂
@@OldOakTrains Whilst not my class I did find myself watching 40 minutes of west country 47's & 33's from another channel from May 1992 I kind of enjoyed the nostalgia of the end of the Mule loco hauled, so yes it would keep our strumming friends happy.
@logbasher you do realise the term log was a derogatory term used by those who disliked vacs and it was hated by us 50 cranks?😁
I didn’t know that. In fact I’d never heard the expression ’ logbasher’ before - but maybe I’ve lived a sheltered life - Lol. 😂
@@stevecutts5450 D'uh it was ironic taking it back. I had changed it but for some reason YT made it show again, I just fixed that back to what it should be. But yes I did know what it meant and it was to be Ironic & throw up a middle finger to the clowns that used that term.
Excellent 👍
Thank you! Cheers! 👍😊
Top vid as always 👌
Thanks Steve, much appreciated. I might do some othe loco class compilations rather than concentrating on locations. Cheers. Geoff.
@OldOakTrains I'll watch the video when I'm back in the uk. I'm currently in Luxembourg for a few days. Your videos are fantastic mate.
Cheers. 😊😊
Going through this one gradually. I missed their distinctive sound......
Glad you’re enjoying it. Thanks for commenting.👍😊
