When I was in Spain, I had an video call interview with a Canadian company based in Toronto, and got a job offer from them. I thought the role is secured for me. I took a flight to Toronto to settle in. I went to their office a day after I landed in Toronto. They wanted to interview me in person again, the director also joined the interview. After the amazing extra interview, I thought I got the job, but I finally got rejected. I was so depressed after my huge effort I put into that process.
A month later, I got a job in one of the best and biggest cooperation in Canada, and the company that rejected me reached out to me to offer their service. I made them feel what I felt when i got rejected.

I was rejected for a job that I was SURE I was going to get. It looked like a really good fit, had a great location and the boss seemed really nice. I wondered endlessly why I didn't get that "dream" job. About 16 months later, I ran into a former colleague, now working at that company, but not that job. I told her what had happened and how bad I still felt. She told me I had "dodged a bullet". People went into and then back out of that department so quickly they "needed a revolving door". This boss had the department in a constant state of turmoil. Six months after that I found out that the boss had been let go. I thought it was a dream; it would have been a nightmare.

Now you have to sit In front of eight people and answer ridiculous behavioral “tell me about a time when”….questions. Candidates have to have their fake stories memorized. We talked a few minutes, she provided a few tips. A week later she called to ask if I was still interested. She told me afterwards that in her 15+ years in HR, no one had ever called and asked that question. She spoke to the head of the department where the position was and told him my story. He said he had never had a candidate follow up like that, either. Bottom line, he was impressed enough that he created an extra position and brought me on board.

I am an introvert as well. I have found that pausing to think about what you say before you answer a question in a job interview is possible. As long as the the pause is not too long or obvious, it does not hurt your odds of getting a job.
I was interviewing for a job that I got about a week ago. I was asked a tough question. I paused, quickly thought it out, and gave the right answer.
Also, you can use your ability as an introvert to analyze things like crazy and to think ahead to your advantage. Think of tough spots in a interview in advance, analyze it, and figure out what to say. It helps. Then with every interview, fine tune that reply.
I hope that helps. Now I need some alone time. All this social stuff is making me feel drained. :)

Despite highly introverted preferences being present in an estimated half of the population, with varying degrees across the spectrum for various scenarios, highly introverted people are irrationally discounted by those either having different preferences or faking like they do due to societal pressure. Susan Cain's book "Quiet" gives historical insight as to likely causes of this wasteful discriminatory phenomenon. It takes all types to accomplish work together. Some hiring team attitudes urgently need to adjust to close their gap with the implications of peer reviewed psychological literature that has been published for decades. Why demand graduate or postgraduate degrees in workforces when application of obvious lessons from such education are often actively resisted by some companies' core operations?

To say that this job market (IT specifically) is perverted would be an understatement. Right now, I've absolutely zero desire to chase employers and beg them to give me a chance to prove myself. You summed up my feelings perfectly. I just went through 2 months of interviews, 3 coding tests that I passed with flying colors, the last interview involved talking about housing options and moving expenses, just to get the form letter of doom last week. I reached out for feedback, but have not heard back. I'm not feeling awesome. I just found your videos today, and I'm starting to feel a little closer to awesome.

@@djweller72 I'm a bit in the same boat as yourself. I'm working daily for a junior dev position but there's always something that don't match Like you don't have a Phd, your internship is lacking a minute so it is not long enough... They will always find something to tell no.
On the other hand they constantly sing they lack devs. There seem to be too little room in that industry for freshers.
Some of the people I took my training with got jobs and they started to be magically super stars constantly called.
I am very much starting to feel all my efforts are worthless and I may simply bin all the time I spent developing to the trash and head to something else. Something I would not love as much as dev or IT but something that would help me pay the bills. I've been resilient for a long time but I'm definitely starting to change my mind.
My stack is around .Net technologies : ASP .Net Core/MVC, WPF, Xamarin, MS SQL, LINQ, Entity Framework, React.
The intro of this video sums up how I feel. But something in me just don't want to give up... That said, as I explained above, I start to change my mind. I wish I get another opportunity should it even not be in IT.

I always go in an interview as if I didn’t want the job. I will answer honestly but I won’t bend over backwards for the interviewer. I make it known that I am testing the waters and looking for a bigger paycheck and or advancement.
I always make sure that I apply when I am still employed; that helps also.

Thank you so much!! I've been unemployed for almost 3 most and I'm 57. There is nothing out there for me. No one wants me and I am smart, have a great work ethic, and Loyal if the company is good to their employees. I'm getting turned down by menial jobs, not even the professional office jobs Ive worked in my history. It's degrading, and emotionally stressful. My Sister In Law tells me. Don't be negative about the things you don't have.....look up to the stuff you do know and have. HOW??!! You wake up with a fresh new attitude that "This is gonna be the day" and you get the recruiter emails saying "Thank you.....BUT Unfortunately.....". It's so depressing. 😢

I’m just a young engineer and I’m already totally pissed by HR people, all fancy talks but no substance. They always contradict themselves, disappear even when you’re told to reach out and make empty promises and fake reassurances.
I once applied for a job offer for which I had literally a perfect resume matched in every detail with the requirements (age, skills, experience…), they had the GUT to answer me they where not looking for a figure like mine, either lying on the offer or to me.
I’ve been unemployed for 4 months now and I have no desire to search for a job non more, just studying tu learn new skills and thinking on building a startup.
Unfortunately I am very bad at networking, so I’ll need to work hard to cover this flaw which is pretty much crippling in these times

Then, some problem happened that they didn't even want to tell me about (something with documents between the organization and the ministry) and i lost the job because the hiring manager "couldn't wait any longer" i was depressed because i left my job for this dream and planned my life according to what i thought i had. I tried to get my shit togather and apply again for jobs and it's been 6 months with only rejections. I am jobless and have no money for the basic things and it's just tiring the amount of rejections i get its kinda killing me from the inside

Appreciate this video. Feeling pretty low after being encouraged to go for an internal job and got rejected. Worst part is they said I did a better interview than the chosen candidate, but they cannot ignore the other candidates years of experience. They're always looking for this niche experience, how do you get it if nobody is willing to invest in you and give you a chance? I graduated with top grades, always do a strong interview and have faced so much rejection. It's rough out there. Also, how does one tackle the "hidden" job market? Would love to know more. Got a degree in IT. After getting insane bad salary abuse, a 4:59 PM Friday layoff notice and going through all sorts of crap trying to get the next job, Retrained and went blue collar trade, was making six figure income with far better benefits than corporate America ever gave me and retired with a good pension after working for the same place for twenty six years. My whole interview for that job was. Interviewer: "You want to work hard and make good money for your family?" Me: "Yeah." Interviewer: Shakes my hand and says. "Good you start Monday at this location." Too much bullshit working white collar service jobs in America. It's not worth the hassles and lack of security. I saw too many people with much more experience than me still going to job to job, no hope of ever seeing a pension.

Just watched this and it hit home. I spent 11 years between unemployment and doing temp jobs. Finally got hired when a temp job turned into the real thing when people took the time to see my worth and my dedication. All started when my wife and I were at the same company and she got cancer and we were both laid off. I took the time to write short funny stories as therapy. Years later collected them into a book titled Life Seemed Good, But.... Maybe it can help others maintain a positive outlook. It's on that site named for a big river in South America.

What I found most striking was your blunt assessment of statistically being at 1%. It's so true, and all of the other elements that you mention are equally as relatable... but the reality that someone is one candidate in a pile of 100 (or more) make it so humbling that the odds are against them (not wishing to convey a negative tone, of course).
