I work as a Data Engineer and I spent about 6 months looking for my current role, funny thing is for almost every month I was interviewing for a company I could see myself working in but I was always rejected. I cried just like you did, maybe even worse, lol. And I doubted myself so much but when its for you it’s gonna come easy, i tell you! Its not a rejection, just a redirection! 8 stages is no joke and to get to the final round, you’re a freaking bad ass! I’m rooting for you!
The market is highly competitive, which can make it difficult to secure a job without a referral. However, the fact that you are receiving interviews is a positive sign. Many people's applications go unnoticed, so your progress is encouraging. Keep up the good work.
And this is why someone in her vlog about quitting Spotify gave some good advice and said to never quit a job before securing a new work. Looks like she was right.
@@yunisblu3412 somehow true but if the mental health is already at risk, resigning is the right thing to do instead of not being able to recover and ended up being burned out. i’m speaking from my experience and her vlog is a reality that the job market is a shit but at the end of the day, there is a light at the end of the tunnel
Thank you for being so raw and vulnerable with dealing with rejections. Speaking from personal experience and from hindsight, the rejections we receive are all part of leading us to the right opportunity for us. When it happens, you know it will all be worth it and everything happens for a reason. Each interview you go through is also making you even better so that when it comes to the right job, you'll be even better equipped for it to get it. I hope you are finding some encouragement during this time and I just know that your next role will be something that is perfect for you ❤
it's so nice that you took a moment to let her know this. it is exactly what i was thinking. there is always light at the end of the tunnel and sometimes you just can't see it yet. beautiful things are always finding their way to those who keep searching for it🤍
Thank you for your patience with this upload! I had a last minute trip to Asia so things have been a bit delayed. I wish I can tell you that I got an offer - but unfortunately the search continues 🥲 This video is a bit long & more chatty than usual but I hope you enjoy 🫶
My deep congratulations! I am also in the job market as a mom of 3 for 9months.. feeling so down, I feel so many emotions for this period of time... I cried with you in this video, I know how its hard.. When I will get an offer I will write my comment here. Thanks for sharing. It's good to know that everyone goes through this cycle to get an offer. Enjoy your trip to Asia!😇
I feel for you on the job rejections. Being on the job market since September of last year due to the place I worked at had mass layoff, pretty much the whole company, all I can say is it'll get better. Finally came across some part-time work, in a field that isn't my ideal, but it's work at least until summer since it's only during the school year. Still looking for full-time work, and though life happens, you just gotta keep putting the applications out and think positively. One door closes. Another one opens. And sometimes, you just gotta think outside the box. Hope the Asia trip goes pleasantly, and will keep you, me and and us all in prayers that we get that perfect job that's for us for those that's having to look for work at this time. And, will post here as well when I get that full-time work offer as well.
Keep it up, took me almost 9 months to step away from Tech/consulting, is hard and I totally understand how you feel, Now I am in a great place doing something totally new, look for other industries
I just wanted to say filming this process is really helpful for a lot of us who are/have been unemployed or are job searching. I interviewed for a job recently that I knew I would have been great at and was rejected and told by the hiring manager it was a one point difference between me and the hired candidate. It was so demotivating and I beat myself up over it for days. At the end of the day we know we are capable and intelligent, this whole process is extremely taxing and emotionally damaging at times. Remember your worth and use the support around you, all the best xx
In the last 8 years, there was a boom in the "data science" degree wihich is much easier than a computer science or computer engineering degree. Right now, so many candidates with "data scientist" as a degree as it sound sexy are out of a job 1 year or more.....many of them are trying to pivot to AI/Machine learning by throwing in "key phrases" to just get interviews.
Exactly what happened to me when I got through a 3 stage interview process for a UI developer role with JPMC for a six figure role.....who knows how stressful it would have been! Working for a defense contractor now as a 100% remote software developer and enjoying the process.
Finding a job always sucks. Exactly in the same process since 6 months, got rejected many times in the final round. 15 years of experience and feel like a junior who's trying to find her first job. Don't give up. ❤
@@Toulkun no question they’re overrated, but I know managers who will not even check a CV without certification. This is sad, but something to be aware of and use strategically.
@@djamel-arbouche Certifications usually doesnt mean you have good knowledge of something. This is why i long time ago ditched getting certifications but acquiring good experience at subject.
I’m in the same spot as you right now. I completely understand not wanting to hype yourself up or get too excited, because you never know. i’ve been unemployed for 3 months now, and i’ve been rejected so many times, it’s so hard.
i don’t have any real advice, because obviously i’m in the same place. i don’t want to scare you by saying i’ve been unemployed for 3 months, but i feel the same way as you. So much rejection, and i’m not sure how much more i can handle, and it sucks and hurts and i do feel angry. i’ve found solace in workout classes and the dog park and just trying to be normal. walks during the day, etc.
I totally agree with you. Ever since I left my last seasonal job I spent the last four months searching for jobs. It is hard especially as the weather is getting warmer there is more competition. I hope you find what you are looking for
I think most people only share the bright side of their lives but hardly ever share their dark side, so thank you for being willing to share real life. I'm experiencing the same situation as you (being rejected), and it's comforting to know we're not alone. Keeping the faith that the right opportunity will come along eventually.
Agree, appreciate the realness Julia. You are awesome and I have no doubt you will land a role soon, although damn can the process get tiring!!! Take good care of yourself and thank you for sharing
Julia, please don't cry. I've been through six rounds of interviews with the same big tech company several times, and each time, I was rejected without any feedback. After the second rejection, I started to see it as free job interview practice. Sometimes, when the big tech company reached out, I was too busy to respond, so I turned them down. I've been in the IT industry since 1992 when I first looked for a job in the newspaper. I can assure you that you're going to be great, and one day you'll look back on this and laugh. Most importantly, you haven't wasted any time being unemployed. Your RUclips videos are very helpful and motivating to viewers.
I go on interviews just to perfect my interview skills. I have the advantage of not feeling any pressure during the interview since I’m happy where I work. The interviews give you an insight into how far ahead or behind your current employer is. I like the ideas that I pick up. It helps you see how things could be changed at your current company.
it is honestly so unfair and disrespectful that it takes so many weeks and rounds to interview for positions that you don't even know if you are gonna get. i am really cheering for you and your success on the next ones to come!
@@GlamGoddes101 I don't know, it depends on many factors, like company size, number of candidates, size of the recruiting team and how busy the interviewers are. Having been on the other side I genuinely feel for the applicants but I also struggle to find a better alternative. BTW, my question was not rhetorical, even though it might come across as such.
this is a small tip but works, when ever you got rejected by a company or a recruiter you have to tell yourself that company is not enough fortunate to work with you and they are missing a gem like you and you can also tell yourself that there is something bigger waiting for me ahead and your grief evaporates all the best
That is a denial thinking to keep self image high. It doesn’t make it positive. I hate modern day, “It is your loss” after breakup. Maybe it just simply not a compatible for a long relationship so it break. It is a sad experience to get rejected but better approach is try to be better, not denial thinking.
Companies are way too big headed atm, they can’t hold down employees but only want the perfect candidate. Honestly take a rejection as a blessing that you won’t work for a toxic company, the perfect job is waiting for you ❤
Seriously they can’t tell if they like someone enough and trust them to work with them after 2 or 3 rounds? It’s just a bullshit extended process to screen out more people because of how bad the job market is….wouldn’t happen if only 3 people applied to the job! At most 1 or 2 round interviews would be it then.
It’s insane I did 8 rounds with Apple, and they rejected me and the recruiter told me they went with someone that was already working with the team internally. Then why waste someone time if you already knew who you wanted??
I'm gonna tell you the same thing I've told my son, who graduated with his bachelor's in Computer Science last June and is obviously entry level. The right thing will happen, it always does, unavoidable and true. He went through 6 interview processes, made it to the final 3xs, while working in the interim. Took 9 months but he's in, started 2 weeks ago. The field ya'll are in is frustrating as heck at the moment, but you're gonna be just fine, guaranteed! I've watched your channel for a bit now, you're great, organized, the right fit will come, wait for it, it will be worth it😊
You were so respectful and kind even though the news from the recruiter wasn’t what you were hoping for. You are truly one of a kind! Don’t let this discourage you. Sometimes the universe is working in our favor even when we don’t think. What’s meant for you, will happen!!! ❤
Ive been interviewing after tech layoffs, and was recently told the position that I had done a final round for, no longer exists because the team decided to repurpose the role to something else...after I had spent hours and weeks to prep for all the rounds of interviews. It sucks, but I am telling myself that it was not meant to be and that something right will come my way. Thanks for sharing your journey as well. We got this!!
That's so upsetting! For every 30 min of actual interview time there is AT LEAST 3 hours of prep. And once you've spent the time you can't get it back. These companies need to think before they string candidates along.
Hi Julia, I'm a front-end developer and also currently I'm looking for a new job. I wanted to thank you for being so open and showing your vulnerability. It's comforting to know that there are others in the same situation,
Julia - I'm only 6 minutes into this video and feel I must tell you this: You are meant for bigger and better things! I know you are disappointed BUT appreciate how far you've come, the amazing experience you have acquired in your young life (I'm 57 and want to hug you right now) and the amazing potential yet on your horizon. You are a ROCKSTAR! Be thankful for the experience and forge ahead, my dear. You got this! : ) It will all be ok ... I promise. : ) 😍 Now on to finish this video! : )
Hi Julia, thank you for sharing the raw and unfiltered moments 😭 I teared up at 5:21 because I’m also in the same boat (data scientist interviews just seem to get harder and harder). A big virtual hug for you and everyone who is going through the hard job searching journey right now. May we power through ❤
Hi Jules! I just wanted to say that I have been at this exact situation when I got layed off. I didn't have any plans or back up plans and I didn't save enough to get by however, let me share what my Mom told me. 1. If you get rejected with an application, it means that your not meant to be there. Safety, morale, and goodness is not there. 2. There are tons of opportunties out there. One that would be for you. 3. God will place you in a situation that you will be reminded of this time and you will understand that He has more plans for you. God bless you Jules and praying that you find that tailor fit company with your superb talent!
Dang ngl I teared up seeing you cry after the rejection call. I'm a graphic designer so not the same field but I can fully relate to the long stressful process of finding a job. It's so emotionally draining, but you definitely build resilience to the process. I recently saw on another vid talking about how although politicians keep saying there's many jobs available, it's being worded to hide the fact that many fields (including tech) don't actually have roles open, they're doing what they did to Julia and basically keeping job seekers on hold in case anything comes up.
Hi Julia, I'm rewatching your job search series because i'm going through the same process. I just want to say thank you for posting this and being honest with the journey. Sometimes after getting a rejection I just feel like I'll never get an offer, but your videos and your recent update of job offer make me see hope again. Sending you a hug through time & space with gratitude.
I understand what it's like to get so close to the finish line and then getting rejected because somebody did better. I used to be very angry and frustrated at first, but then I shifted my mentality to be happy for that person. What if they were in the same situation as me and this was finally their offer after months of rejection? What if their financial situation was worse and they couldn't afford to get rejected again? This was the only way for me to not be so hard on myself and move on to the next. Now, I finally have a job that's better than the one I was rejected from. Rejection is truly redirection! You are talented, Julia! I promise you that with the way things are going, you will have a great opportunity soon.
@@st.toussaint4632 When someone offers a word of encouragement, there always has to be a person who throws in the word bruh with negativity lmfao. I was expecting you
"rejection is redirection." thank you julia for being vulnerable and sharing this journey with us. thank you for showing the realness of being true to your feelings and then continuing to get back up and continuing to do the things that you love, taking care of yourself, and working on your dreams. we love you. you are worth all the best and this is just a season of preparing you for the best!
I couldn't get a single interview call despite having 10 years of relevant experience and two relevant degrees. I applied to > 200 positions over a 2 month period before landing that one interview that thankfully translated into an offer. I have never felt this panicked ever in my life. Keep your head up and continue trying
2 months? try 2 years 😂 thought I would never find one. Was ready to do fast food or shipping job. Never again. Going to be more prepared if it ever comes around.
Thank you for being transparent with us, Julia I am in a similar boat. I get contacted by recruiters, have great interviews and rounds, and get positive feedback that I am what the company is looking for. All of this…just to be told that they went with an internal candidate I’ve learned in the past couple months that companies either already had an internal candidate in mind or weren’t actually planning to hire for the role, but posted the listing just to build a talent list for the future I see so many LinkedIn posts from talent and recruiting staff taking so positively about their hiring processes and how “people” are at the core of what they do. Unfortunately, employees and candidates are simply seen as assets, so I think it’s good to take measures to protect ourselves both mentally and professionally Please keep your head up, just as I am trying to. You’re not alone, and we WILL get through this together!! 💕
I cried a few times during my job application process. I reached the onsite round with five companies; two closed their position at the last minute, and I failed with three. I also faced some rejections in the early rounds. What made me sad was the feeling that I had done well enough to get an offer if it had been in the past two years. But now, it's really competitive. Every time this happened to me, I tried to work out and do yoga. The exercise and meditation helped me concentrate again and just believe in myself. You can do it, Julia!
You have no idea how much of help this is, going through interviews and doing so well in them and not getting the job can be defeating. I wish you get the job you want! Best of luck!!!
*hugs* I had a similar situation where it was weeks and weeks of interviews, tests, and promises, only to be ghosted for weeks and then rejected after having to reach out. It can feel so demoralizing and frustrating to put so much effort into something and it end up going nowhere. It makes it difficult to trust recruiters and employers with your time and emotional bandwidth. Hang in there, you’re not alone ❤
Thank you for making this raw and deeply relatable content. When you cried during the rejection so did I. I have gone through the exact same emotion and rejection. I have felt so alone with my job search and these tough emotions. This was comforting to watch and I’m right here with you.
You are so brave for posting your experience with us and showing us what it is truly like. Most people are inauthentic and only post their highs or wins and never show you what they actually go through to get to the top. I just want to encourage you and let you know that you are doing so well! You are applying yourself and really polishing up your skills! You will land the right company for you! I will pray for you. I also just want to comfort you in letting you know that you are not alone and that things are rough now but there will be a door that God will open for you! He sees you and you are not alone! I love your vlogging style too! You have so many rooting for you!
Julia, I am crying with you, because I am in job hunting for almost one year as a new grad. I got rejected in the same situation that you have, but took even longer, almost 3 months. I appreciate you sharing the process, so encouraging, I am not alone. the good news is on the way, take this period as a special time for yourself. You can rest.
I found your job searching series at the perfect timing! I recently got rejected after a great interview and I felt so frustrated after I got the mail. I don't know the reason, why they rejected me and my self esteem was so low. All of my friends have a stable job and I felt like the only one "failing". But then I found your series on the same day as I got rejected and it helped me so much to know that there are a lot of other people struggling to get a job and that rejections are normal and that you just have to continue. The right job will come! It will take time and patience, but I believe everyone can do it, if you put yourself out there! Good luck to everyone!
Thank you for your videos, Julia! I found your channel after I was let go last month. I'm also in NYC. My job was impossible and getting let go was unfair but I am happy I don't have to deal with those people anymore. I am slowly getting back to job searching. It's helpful for me to see someone going through it with me. Don't cry (too much)! We got this!!
For some reason I cried with you during the phone call... the sound of hope-crushing rejection never feels good and I know exactly how you felt. Cheering you on for the continued search 💪💪❤
I’m crying with you because I’m going through the same process and it’s so frustrating 😭 I always blame myself for not getting the job, it feels like I’ll never be good enough 😢 I was really hoping to do my master’s degree in Italy, but found out they already sent the emails for whoever was selected to the interview phase and that broke my heart so so so much. I’ll never understand why we are not selected if we match everything they want 😭
Totally relatable, I’m still searching for a new job after completing master’s degree and until now, still couldn’t find any new job. Really frustrating and stressful but again, I believe there will be a right opportunity at the right time. So don’t give up and keep finding,I’m sure you will come across it one day. Try to take it a bit easy and don’t stress too much. All the best! 💪
Wow this has been an incredible video. I relate to you so much. I applied to a Social Media Manager role last March and the company was impressed with my experience and skills. I did two round of interviews and they all seemed positive. Until they rejected me and said they were moving forward with another candidate. It sucked so much because I was excited and I felt like the company was the right fit for me. It also didnt help that the rejection happened during the week that I was having a difficult time in school too. It took me a while to get over it but I eventually see it as a positive thing that I was good enough that i got to be interviewed and that they were impressed by me. Keep pressing on! You got this 💪🏼
Julia, you are AMAZING, SOOO TALENTED, AND SMART!!! I admire you, and you have been my company in this job searching process. I really appreciate your content. For me, OMG, it has been a roller coaster... After 3 months as unemployed living in Madrid....I had to accept a job as a telemarketer (when I was an ecommerce manager at HP Inc), and after a week working as a telemarketer... I just got hired by a software company. One of my friends who works there recommended me, so the process was "easier". I just got hired yesterday. After so many rejections and 'wasted time' in the big process. I totally admire you, and I'm PRETTY SURE that YOU already have a JOB that has YOUR NAME ON IT. Keep strong, girl, YOU TOTALLY ROCK!!! Greetings from Spain. I'm Peruvian living in Spain :)
I’m an old salty dog (born in 1965) but I find it incredibly difficult watching people who genuinely want to work not get that opportunity. I hope you and everyone else going through a difficult time looking for a job find success in the very near future.
I really appreciate you making this video. I’ve been going through something similar. People don’t realize how huge of an impact something like this can have on your mental health. The job market has been insane recently and I think its amazing that you’re able to feel the feels but then pick yourself up and continue to put in the work to make sure you’re joining a company that you will be happy to work at. Wishing you all the best, you got this!
Julia, thank you for being so honest with your viewers! I'm sure you'll do well and you'll definitely work your way up to where you can do your best. After my internship ended, I was heartbroken that I didn't get the chance to stay with my favorite team and was terrified of finding my first serious job. Especially that I decided to test myself and take a more challenging path. I believe I was incredibly lucky that a recruiter found my resume and the product owner with the team decided to take me on right away, despite needing a lot of experience for the position. I'm just starting my journey and the unknown scares me so much, but my colleagues are very kind and supportive. Also, my grandma says that everything that happens in life happens for the best, and fate will always give us something much better ❤
Don’t take it too hard, the competition is fierce, you will eventually find your place. I strongly believe everything happens for a reason. You are a strong beautiful woman.
This reminds me of the heartbreak of Julia being rejected for that "perfect" apartment, only to find the AMAZING one she has now! So many are in this place right now, including my daughter and so many of the people watching. For everyone I am reminded of the line from the song my grandmother used to sing- "Aren't you glad that troubles don't last always?" I know that everyone will get to the other side- in the meantime I am certainly going to click Julia's link to check out Notion- I've been waiting for the right time!
i’m in the same boat as you… i’ve been applying to some internship opportunities/job opportunities post grad and have been rejected three times. it’s a bummer but i move on to the next thing. i appreciate you sharing yourself in a vulnerable state because job searching can be difficult and stressful but it’s okay! you got this , julia! 💖
as a recent graduate with no "real" experience, although I am not a tech girlie, I have been struggling with all the job searching etc., I have been rejected but it's been just a few companies who actually take the time to deliver those news, even if bad, most of them just ghost. I found you when u posted the first episode of these series and it's been nice to see you get through all of it, I got emotional when you were vulnerable because I too, have felt like I'm not good enough, and while now I'm working on getting that experience myself with my own projects, it still hits to feel like you aren't good enough, but you are, and you are a very nice person. Tomorrow I have an interview, first round, sent some of my work and they contacted me, we'll see how it goes, but the mindset I'm trying to implement instead is to think that if they didn't hire me it's cause it wasn't for me, something better is coming. I'm sending u a big hug!
I cried watching this. I am the exact same as you, I handle rejections really badly even when they say nothing is wrong or I did well, it still sucks. Thank you so much for sharing this and allowing yourself to be vulnerable to so many people. I know you already have a new job now but I truly believe that this opportunity closed because you are meant to be somewhere else. xx
Oh, Julia. Big hugs virtually. I need you to understand (read: NEED, out of love) that there is plenty of variables that are out of our control when it comes to job searching. Rejections from it say ZILCH about your capabilities, especially when the recruiter said so too! Take your time to move on, to rest, to get back on your feet again but gosh, woman, PLEASE don’t personalize the stress and the external rejections and demean yourself. Love you, a fellow jobseeker 💜
Hi Julia!! I understand you perfectly, I went through the same situation recently. Last Friday to be exact, the good thing is that you have someone to support you in this difficult time as I have no one I had to go through this moment alone but everything passes I hope you are better and that you can be accepted next time, I wish you good luck and success on this journey!!!
I'm currently in month 5 of being unemployed and I have felt every emotions you're sharing in this video and I am so grateful for you. Thank you for being vulnerable and giving me hope for the future. You truly don't understand what this means ❤
I was a part of a big laid off wave 2 days ago. It was unexpected and sad, and knowing the current tech market, the idea of starting over again feels challenging and scary, even with a few years of experience. I was lucky enough to have supportive friends and family around to cheer me up, and a good savings for some time, but the thought of not knowing what the future will be haunts me even in my sleep. I wish you the best for your job seeking journey, Julia. Hopefully I can find one myself in the near future as well.
Aw Julia :( virtual hugs from across the pond. My hubbie works in tech, he got laid off after being at his company for 12 years and is still job hunting 7 months on. It's really hellish out there but you are good enough. Don't lose heart ❤
This video showed up on my feed thanks to the algorithm and I'm so glad it did. I was part of the spotify layoffs (in NYC also) and am in the same boat. It's brutal out here and you are so real for sharing exactly what everyone is feeling. I agree with your bf that the rejection isn't a reflection of you as a great engineer but more that you haven't found the right team yet. Don't give up you will find the right role - we all will 💚
i want to give you a big hug and then THANK YOU for sharing this journey with us. I have never felt so seen!! The job application process is truly brutallll. Your videos are such a guiding light and inspiration for me as a data science student (who dreams of NYC haha) and your vulnerability in sharing the realities is sooo deeply appreciated. With 5years as a data scientist at Spotify under your belt AND having built this community, I wish you could see how brilliant I see you!! Sending you and your family love x
Definitely understand the emotions. I’ve been unemployed for over a yr now and still struggling to land a role though I have experience. I appreciate your persistence, keep going!
Interviewing is like dating, line a TON of them up, as many as you can handle. Keep setting up a new one as attrition happens. This way when they drop out of the running you don't care as much cause you have others in the works. Also you can be a bit more choosy since you have options.
Thank you for sharing these parts of your life with us too, Julia. You’re amazing and will definitely get a role that you love soon ❤ We are all sending you good vibes and strength!
I also faced a rejection today and was told that I was among the top 3 candidates but they decided to go ahead with someone else. I def had high expectations but it’s okay, I am taking this opportunity to grow and be better at my job search. Thank you for sharing your experience, it resonated with my feelings a lot! I do see you working very hard to search for a job and being a content creator at the same time and it’s inspiring! Keep it up! Love your content!
Not to Julia, but to others that might be motivate by this clip - Gonna be realistic here - it’s a very tough year in the job market and it is unwise to quit your job at this time because you’re gonna compete with many other candidates that has been laid off, and because you don’t get a severance pay makes your finance situation worse than those who been laid off, that makes your situation more stressful than theirs. Need some wise advice? Don’t quit now, hang in there, wait for the next economic boom.
Agreed and as a 50+ year old professional still "working" on career advancement.... Even when the job market is good ... quitting without something else lined up is taking a big risk. You're trading whatever stress or unhappiness from being employed for potentially short term happiness that may quickly transition into a different source of stress as a job seeker especially now given the state of hiring, the market, etc. Though times have greatly changed since I was much younger, traditional / larger companies gravitate towards pursuing people they want that are currently employed. No doubt there are exceptions to this, i.e. you are the true rockstar in your field and do have that power to be instantly hireable but that's not the case for most of us. I sincerely hope Julia finds (and lands) a great new opportunity
I lost my job two weeks ago due to two company integration. The journey is so stressful and your video have given me a lot of courage and drive me to hang in here. Don't give up, you will find a great job that you deserve.
Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. This reminds me of my job hunting as well - every application took so long, each position was extremely competitive, and it was endless and disheartening. Don’t let all the spirals consume you. Rejections do NOT define your worth. Believe in yourself and you got this ❤
You have so many blessings. You’re unemployed and were in a financial position to quit your job. Not many people can say that ❤ I will say my ex-husband worked in tech and it’s was unbelievably hard to get jobs. He would be the only SQL data (something) within the company usually. It was always something with the workers, interview process, getting turned down. It was a never ending circle it seemed. That’s a tough industry to be in, but you got this and it does take time!
broke my heart to see you cry after the first rejection :( I really felt that... exhaustion, anger, confusion. I hope that you find a company that fits your needs. I agree with your boyfriend -- If the company rejects you for no actionable feedback and based on vibes, you probably would not have fit in with the company's culture if you did get the job. It just shows that your skills and competence are all up there! Just need to find the right company for you!
what kind of bs crap is this 8 interview 5 week process one has to endure...i mean its been a few years since i was ever in this sort of nightmare and i guess things have changed but like you say if they want to put you thorugh the ringer then they can do it in a week.....whatever happened to a phone interview...a meeting..a couple of tests,,.reference cheak and then hiring...they can only get away with this becuse there are too many people in the job market...and too few jobs...my job was outsourced to india..so that ended my career in software development...honestly ...they can go *** themselves...no respect for the individual
That’s so hard I’m sorry you have to deal with the stress and frustration. I finally got accepted into a grad school where all the “easy” schools were hard to get into and I got into a more rigorous school. But during that time my friend kept reminding me that this process is just as much about what I want and not just what they want. She said you dont want to be with a place that doesn’t want you. So keep that in mind for the future to know that a place that values is important and you can do this 🎉
Thank you for sharing such an emotional and vulnerable time with us. Thank you for sharing the realities of job searching. I’m happy that you are sticking to what you want in your next career. Don’t be so down on yourself.. if you feel like everything is ok then everything will be mediocre if you doubt yourself then you won’t achieve!!! Pull yourself up you are great and haven’t even reached your potential!!! I’m starting over at 44 after 16 plus years in a field and now I’m trying to get into something new!! It’s scary and exciting!!!! ❤ you got this!!! Go get what you deserve!!!
This is why you dont quit your job until you have another job lined up. Your resume showing you are currently working looks better than a resume that shows you are not currently working that might have been the edge. Hiring managers/recruiters are usually bias about this, also with what school you graduated from. You're suffering from imposter syndrome, everyone gets that and me as a software engineer also feel the same way at times. At least you got a recruiter to call you back to let you know, most will get a email saying they were not moving forward with their application and never hear from the recruiter again and they don't even offer feedback on why you was passed up on to improve on. As someone who is also on the job hunt, this process sucks but have to stay resilient and positive.
Yesss it sucks cause people who work somewhere for years are getting laid off and that’s worse than just quitting 😢 and some work at toxic jobs and can’t quit it’s all a mess rn
@@M.A.D.C.J getting laid off is better cause for one at least you get to apply for unemployment which is something instead of nothing by quitting. Managers and recruiters are understanding of being laid off cause it usually means the company could no longer afford to keep you or something related to company finances
I’m so sorry you are hurting. You are so brave to be this raw and unfiltered with us. We are all here with you sending our thoughts and good vibes your way. Remember, you are amazing 😊
Consider individuals on a visa with a limited 60-day timeframe to secure employment. They put in immense effort, commit to interview preparation, and successfully land the job. Without complaining or crying or squandering time on leisure activities like resting and traveling, they remain dedicated to focusing, studying, and getting ready for interviews.
Job hunting is so difficult, I appreciate you being honest and truthful with us so much, we don't see that enough from people even in our own personal lives. Everyone wants to portrait it all as peachy and smooth when it's usually quite challenging. Something will come up definitely though it just might make you wait.
there are so many tech jobs everybody can get one. literally most of the people i know in other engineering fields move over to tech cuz thats where the jobs are. it has no barrier to entry obviously so anybody can do it...... making it competitive, at least for the 300k a year jobs lol. if thats the only thing you'll go for I can understand why u can't find anything. I don't make anything close to that! edit: Wow so, I just realized you quit your job like... one month ago. That's a spoiled brat if youre fkin crying already LOL. during the pandemic I got laid off and couldn't find anything for 15 months. 5 weeks is fkin NOTHING
I recently went through the similar experience several times, after the 2022 layoffs started. Luckily after months of being unemployed, I landed a role at a team where I was a great fit. It’s a numbers game now, you’re doing great, keep doing it and the right one will land across one day. And I want to thank you for posting the candid emotions. It makes me and I’m sure many others who are struggling with the tough job market feel less alone.
I just came across your RUclips channel about you leaving your last role...girl I am sooo sorry! Thanks so much for sharing your vulnerability and experience, I completely understand how depressing and disheartening doing round after round of interviews get, just to be rejected right after. I went through a very similar depressive period dealing with this horrible job market... 8 rounds of interviews is crazy. I took off 4 months of applying to jobs just to prioritize my mental health after failing countless of interviews. I got my mentality right again for interviewing and my first offer was literally from Apple. Rejection is redirection - you got this love!!!
2:28 don't cry sister. We gotta face through difficult times . The good thing about difficult times is they don't last long. So these difficult times won't last long. So keep smiling and get your act together.
You know some people quit for a plethora of reasons, I quit my job a few years ago because it physically made me sick and sent me to the emergency room, ended up having a seizure due to stress.
Julia, thank you for always sharing with us your highest and lowest moments. I hope you can find comfort in your viewers and all of our experiences. Much love!
Girl, you did this to yourself. You had a job and quit, and now you're crying over what you chose. You created your problem when you otherwise were in a privileged position.
Congrats and well done on your job search. It is definitely tough and demoralizing. But when you get that job it's what makes it so special.
I hope you don't get laid off soon 😅

The market is highly competitive, which can make it difficult to secure a job without a referral. However, the fact that you are receiving interviews is a positive sign. Many people's applications go unnoticed, so your progress is encouraging. Keep up the good work.
Exactly this, but referals can only get you to the interviews and not the actual job unfortunately.
@@Toulkun Sometimes the grass isn't greener on the other side
Agree with this 😭
And this is why someone in her vlog about quitting Spotify gave some good advice and said to never quit a job before securing a new work.

This is so true! I am tearing up but I know Julia's (the right) door is about to open
it's so nice that you took a moment to let her know this. it is exactly what i was thinking. there is always light at the end of the tunnel and sometimes you just can't see it yet. beautiful things are always finding their way to those who keep searching for it🤍

You’re doing amazing. You’ll get the most perfect job at the best time. Keep holding your head up high, thank you for sharing your experience with us.
⚛️ I left my career after 22 years in the industry and now I am looking for different challenges ⚛️
Sounds like a jerk. You dodged a bullet.
I relate to this!

Super it’s actually so nasty and I wish we could start reporting these companies
What would be a better and different approach though?

@@lionjark Easy! - less time between each interview, like what Julia said too, does it *really* take so long to evaluate candidates
That’s actually very true….
Honestly take a rejection as a blessing that you won’t work for a toxic company, the perfect job is waiting for you ❤
That's because there's so many people looking for work they're spoiled with too much to choose.
8 rounds of interview is just pure BS.
Yikes, that’s horrible of employers to do that
Seriously they can’t tell if they like someone enough and trust them to work with them after 2 or 3 rounds? It’s just a bullshit extended process to screen out more people because of how bad the job market is….wouldn’t happen if only 3 people applied to the job! At most 1 or 2 round interviews would be it then.
This 9-5 life ain’t life, amma start a business
@@em8969You'll work way more than 9-5 for way less...
I've watched your channel for a bit now, you're great, organized, the right fit will come, wait for it, it will be worth it😊
Hopefully your son doesn't get laid off soon
Bless your heart..
Thanks for being realistic! It's not easy to get hire nowadays even if you're qualified to do the job.
Exactly!! And right??

The person that hires you, is lucky to have you...Making my day with an upload ❤

I am in a similar boat. I get contacted by recruiters, have great interviews and rounds, and get positive feedback that I am what the company is looking for. All of this…just to be told that they went with an internal candidate
I’ve learned in the past couple months that companies either already had an internal candidate in mind or weren’t actually planning to hire for the role, but posted the listing just to build a talent list for the future
I see so many LinkedIn posts from talent and recruiting staff taking so positively about their hiring processes and how “people” are at the core of what they do. Unfortunately, employees and candidates are simply seen as assets, so I think it’s good to take measures to protect ourselves both mentally and professionally
Please keep your head up, just as I am trying to.
*hugs*

After my internship ended, I was heartbroken that I didn't get the chance to stay with my favorite team and was terrified of finding my first serious job. Especially that I decided to test myself and take a more challenging path. as a recent graduate with no "real" experience, although I am not a tech girlie, I have been struggling with all the job searching etc., I have been rejected but it's been just a few companies who actually take the time to deliver those news, even if bad, most of them just ghost.
I recently got a job, and today is my first day at work after 5 months. So don't give up.
That's awesome, wish you have a great start.
I'm currently in month 5 of being unemployed and I have felt every emotions you're sharing in this video and I am so grateful for you. Thank you for being vulnerable and giving me hope for the future.
You truly don't understand what this means
❤
I'm going throught the same thing atm. Thank you for showing your vulnerabilty. It makes me feel less alone.
My husband is in the same phase, been looking for jobs since August last year after got laid off
I like ur perspective on “i can cry tonight and tomorrow” it will get better ❤️❤️❤️
You have done a great job! Sometimes it’s about suitability, not about your ability, and something greater might wait for you. Keep it up girl
You are so so real for doing this. I really appreciate your honesty and vulnerability .
Julia
You are amazing and when you least expect it….that right position and place where you should be will come❤❤
Definitely understand the emotions. I’ve been unemployed for over a yr now and still struggling to land a role though I have experience. I appreciate your persistence, keep going!
Please keep your head up. We're all rooting for you. ❤
8 ROUNDS?? omg the longest i've been is in 4 rounds. stay strong julia! we are all rooting for you so so hard
Tech seems so hard to do & get into. I’m on healthcare & you can legit get a job the same day you apply. My heart goes out to all my techys!
Doing what?
The rejecting call is nice of them. Many companies I’ve applied never contacted me after the interview. So I just figured I was rejected.
Not many people can say that ❤
I will say my ex-husband worked in tech and it’s was unbelievably hard to get jobs.
Yup all this.
Pray for it Julia!!! It really works!!!
Yes, prayer works indeed!
So keep that in mind for the future to know that a place that values is important and you can do this 🎉
Was Great to see your Upload.....You are ALWAYS Enough.❤
Thank you for sharing such an emotional and vulnerable time with us. Thank you for sharing the realities of job searching. I’m happy that you are sticking to what you want in your next career. What is meant for you will find you and you will find it. Happy you such supportive people helping you through this process.
Omg shout out to that notion template. I've been applying to so many jobs I've been so bad at leon up with them😅
Don’t be so down on yourself.. if you feel like everything is ok then everything will be mediocre if you doubt yourself then you won’t achieve!!!
It makes me and I’m sure many others who are struggling with the tough job market feel less alone.
you never quit a job, without having another one lined up
I just came across your RUclips channel about you leaving your last role...girl I am sooo sorry!
Wow job market must be rough if an ex-Spotify data scientist can't find a job....
2:28 don't cry sister. We gotta face through difficult times . The good thing about difficult times is they don't last long. So these difficult times won't last long. So keep smiling and get your act together.
Why did you quit your job without another job lined up?
You know some people quit for a plethora of reasons, I quit my job a few years ago because it physically made me sick and sent me to the emergency room, ended up having a seizure due to stress.
Julia, thank you for always sharing with us your highest and lowest moments. I hope you can find comfort in your viewers and all of our experiences. Much love!
Girl, you did this to yourself. You had a job and quit, and now you're crying over what you chose. You created your problem when you otherwise were in a privileged position.
Yea the privilege is comical.
