omfg this is SO BEAUTIFUL.......I am just turning 60 this August.....didn't think I'd make it this far either , but here I am....I am just so grateful that I had the chance to see this band play 3 times in my life, and all 3 times, it was with Brent at the keys......
Just got married today and the entire day I could not get this BEAUTIFUL song out of my head, "Standing on the moon where talk is cheap and vision true, standing on the moon but I would rather be with you...." Thank you Jerry and Phil on this one (and of course the rest of the Dead) made my day even more special. Thank you, Thank you and Thank you again!
Why I love Jerry Sure, any band can take you to a place, with lyrics or music that transcends time. Again, every band can do this. What Jerry could do was take you past that transcendent point. When you thought you couldn’t get any higher, any happier, any more “enlightened,” yes you could. You could soar past that limit, hold this little piece of heaven in your mind, and just let go, even if just for a moment. That’s why I love Jerry Garica.
+Ryan Giddings NO! Not just any band can take you to a place with music or lyrics that transcends time! If that were the case The Bay City Rollers would be mentioned in the same breath as Jerry and the Boys. I'm glad my generation had weed and lsd and left all the stupid drugs for generations to come! Was this a Spice induced thought?
+Ryan Giddings BULLSHIT. Garcia wasn't Christ, Buddha, Moses or Allah. He was a human being - A musician, songwriter and human being. Placing the weight of "enlightenment" or "Transcendentalist" on him by so many Deadheads is one of the pressures that killed him. Think about that for a minute.
+JoshDone C'mon man, Garcia died because his cholesterol was approaching 300 and he had 85% blockage in his arteries which led to him having a massive, fatal heart attack. While putting him on the pedestal that many deadheads did was a gigantic pain in the ass for him and very misguided, it had nothing to do with his death. He smoked 2 packs of Camels a day, had an awful diet, and abused hard drugs for a large majority of his life. That is what killed him. Don't blame some nonsense. He would laugh at that.
Such a beautiful song sung by a beautiful man and played by a beautiful band. I see a lot of post saying they miss Jerry. Well, yeah, we all do. But if you want to hang out with him we are all so lucky to have this footage. Along with alot more. Jerry gave us his all. And he did what he loved which was play music and have FUN!!!!!
I am so happy to be alive and able to watch this again. It takes me to the moon and back! I am sure that Jerry would want us to carry on in his style and love every minute of it! I can't believe that it is so long ago already.
I was here, 17 years old somehow drove myself and my friends down and back from CT. I was lucky to have seen a lot of these shows from their last heyday 89-90, this was one of the best I was lucky to see. The Scarlet/Fire is one of the top 5 for me.
@@fogtown gawd this song is too rich start to finish ... listen to a MollyTuttle cover ... she really does it justice. i get something in my eye whenever I listen.
One of the greatest grateful Dead concerts of all time and the last show at my beloved JFK Stadium. I moved to Santa Cruz 3 weeks later. I've seen thousands of shows since then but 7-7-89 can only be described as EPIC.
Anyone else watching this after the D&C 06/29/19 SotM from last night Weir sang and the band nailed, and that verse when Bobby started wellin’ up? Me infinity!
It really really is a beautiful song and yesterday was the first time that I had heard it even though I'm a longtime fan. And to me it is my husband who is in heaven sent me this. Beautiful he is always sending me something beautiful. Loving you brother and sister
God I would love for just one time to be able to hear Jerry sing one of his songs like this, and not have a tear travel down my face. I just cant help it...he gets me every time.
I was 17 at this show, my first. The Who was in town that weekend too, across the parking lot at the Vet. Both venues are now gone, replaced by soulless corporate branded boxes. It is truly sad how far the quality of life has fallen since then.
Thanks for this. I fought to love the dead for decades because I don't like most of their "too happy" music, but love this stuff. Thank you thank you thank you!
One of the greatest Garcia/Hunter songs ever. The lyrics are so beautiful and amazing! And the way Jerry arranged it fuck me it is genius. I have shed a tear or two with this gem.
" I hear the cries of children and the other songs of war" are some very powerful lyrics and hearing Jerry sing them is a total fucking tear jerker. It makes us (by us I mean Americans, westernized, the fortunate) realize how well off we have it and how most of the problems we face pale in comparison to what others face on a daily basis. I realize I'm pointing out the obvious just wish I (we) could get this message through to the rest of the assholes that inhabit this place.
Butters this dvd/3 cd set is unreal. I'm gonna visit u someday. hug wife and son. thank you for u.s. mail (too cool) our gang and dead!!! pure joy!!thanks , Coogan
This was a way of life, even got to Holland,Jerry and the new riders of,were listened to and sold relatively well, anyway, they were your band and your way of life:GREAT BAND.
Awesomely wonderful!!! Saw the Dead do this in a little venue in Columbia, SC! Halloween show! Had never heard it before. What a great show it was!! They also did Touch of Gray! It was GREAT!!!!!!! I sure miss the boys!!!
Do you ever go to a first concert of a band you had not yet listened to and one song is a stand out. This was that song for me at the Omni in Atlanta in 1994. The lyrics are pretty much unbeatable.
The lyrics of so many Dead songs speak deeper and deeper to me with each passing year.
omfg this is SO BEAUTIFUL.......I am just turning 60 this August.....didn't think I'd make it this far either , but here I am....I am just so grateful that I had the chance to see this band play 3 times in my life, and all 3 times, it was with Brent at the keys......
"A scrap of age old lullaby down some forgotten street." One of my very favorite Robert Hunter lines.
This line slays me too. I thought it was "angel, lullaby" ... even better IMO.
In my mind, and heart, this is one of the most beautiful songs ever written. I can't thank you enough for posting this version of it.
Todd Mirkin agreed!!
Todd Mirkin
Makes me cry... Real talk.
Agree Todd Absolutely beautiful
Really speaks to the soul doesn't it?
Makes me misty
i miss him, the days that dont go so well, i know his music can take me to a place of bliss

Such a beautiful song sung by a beautiful man and played by a beautiful band. I see a lot of post saying they miss Jerry. Well, yeah, we all do. My word, that was beautiful.
How can anyone not love Jerry? He was simply the best. Miss you man.
Humble & incredibly eloquent. Not your typical "rock star" An American original
Only with God's grace could so beautiful song be rendered in the most perfect way
impossible not to cry if you're a real fan. BEAUTIFUL, JUST BEAUTIFUL
What if you were born without tearducts?
yes
Damn I guess I don't qualify then. Thats a pretty high standard.💯😂✌
Jerry's lullabies still give me such an amazing feeling. Nobody else could take you on that trip.
This was my first show. Heard this song and took off on tour the next day, never looked back. Miss Jerry and Brent beyond words.
Me too 1985

God damn, I miss him.

Jim Lind right on
Just recently found out about Grateful Dead. Went to Dead and Co 2 weekends ago and I'm re-learning what music is. This is unreal
Welcome home friend ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹
This is not music, its magic and it saves Lives
Sang this song as a lullaby to my children countless times and in places all around the world. It brings a tear to my eye every time.

Beautiful and broken & perfectly perfect. Rest easy our sweet Jerry~ this planet isn't the same without you 💚

The Grateful Dead
No band will ever compare or come close to the greatness of The Dead.
There will always be a Dead from now on

Anyone else watching this after the D&C 06/29/19 SotM from last night Weir sang and the band nailed, and that verse when Bobby started wellin’ up? Me infinity!
It was so great. That’s why I’m here listening back to this one!
You’re making me well up!
Bobby brought a tear but mayer sent voltage thru my body with that solo to finish it
Yup.. precisely..
I've been going back and forth w that DNC from Atlanta and this..
Yes, just watched that D and C show and came to this on the Dead Tube. D and C totally nailed it and we all felt Bob's tears. Such a beautiful tune!
so beautiful and how sweet it is....
Forever grateful.
July 7th is my birthday I was at this show standing on the rail in tears
I'd rather be with you, too: Jerry. Great moment in the band's history, top performance of this song.
One of my very favorite of Jerry's vocals - heartbreaking & beautiful at the same time. Thanks for the memories ❤️

Why? That’s what it’s all about, friend! You are safe here; you are home
I never knew what an amazing guitarist Jerry was until I heard this. It wasn't this particular perormance but that solo at the end? Makes me cry.
I was at this show also! had to many doses and it ended as a rather bad trip . But my friends never left me. Thanks Rocky.
One of those most beautiful songs ever, R.I.P. to the king, the god, and the legend

Now there was a man spilling his heart all over the wind. Damn
Still feel sorry for him - how he died- all these years later. RIP.
Love this song!!!!!
Everyone treated him delicately. Even Brent. They gave so much space for what he wanted to do or was capable of doing at that point.
I MISS THIS SOO MUCH.
I love the idea of the song - to see all of SE Asia, wow!
Thank you jerry
