He wasn't their first or even second keyboard player, but I think it's unquestionable that he brought the love harder than anyone else in the band, and that's why we miss him so much to this day. You just hate to see someone go when the rest of the world's not done with them yet.
+Eric Senich I spoke to Dennis McNally on the phone about 5 years ago. He said Brent didn't want to go to jail for a DUI, which he was scheduled to serve after this tour. Dennis thinks he would have rather left the planet than spend time in the cooler. Sad stuff, RIP brent
+G Roberts I'm going to ask McNally this story, because It was known that Brent was wrapped up in a world of depression and never thought that he was disliked by the fans or the boys. Brent sang from his soul. His talent was deep and skin-tingling. From the depths of hell came forth all the glory he had to give. He gave us his all. Miss him so much.
I was at that show. I'm not trying to be morbid; but I recall a very dark look in his eyes when flashed on the teleprompter screen, along with an indescribably eery pitch / tone at several points throughout the night. And an odd conversation in the lot, with a friend, and a stranger, that had to do with Brent fitting in with the scene over the course of time. I am sad that he is gone. He really added a very soulful color to the sound and feel of the band. I was at Jerry's last show as well. In retrospect, it feels like each of them were saying farewell in their own way, right through their performances. I miss them dearly. As I'm sure most people who view this video do. Thank you for sharing it. Lessons to be learned here; make the most of this life, and love one another to the fullest. Bless you all
I have a real or imagined memory of the first night during Dear Mr. Fantasy with Jerry looking right into Brent and singing "...been wonderful/great knowing you all these years...". Some of us felt there had been a statement there but I don't recall it clearly anymore.
"So Many Roads" from 07-09-95 definitely felt like a goodbye, even though it was pretty early in the set. That little solo that he played closing that tune out is so haunting, not to mention his superb vocal performance. Jerry wasn't "on" very often in '95, but when he was it was absolute fire. RIP Jerry, Brent, Keith, Vince, Hunter... Sad, but at least we have 30 years of amazing recordings, both bootleg sbd's and official.

We did the tour starting in Raleigh on to the end....had a great time with my friends...y'all know the story....if you've been there...after a couple weeks on the road in campgrounds and rest stops and hotels sleeping on the floor. You kind on each other's nerves but you work through and get over it. Man Brent was so good for the band until he checked out. Got home from the tour shortly after this show and my brother told me that Brent was gone.
He was my favorite I was fortunate and strung out enough to see the last 5 shows . Made it back to my crappy job and un eventful birthday on the 25 th , and the next day He was Gone .
I resemble this remark. All these years later, I'm confused and listening intently to the music play, and holding on for dear life to the bumper of our bus...
This was my last show after 8 yrs. I had been in the military since 86. After I got out, I went on tour for spring and summer. I had agreed to join a reserve unit for $$ and soon after ending 6 months on the road, I was called up for Desert Shield/Storm.
i loved Brent so much. I would be mostly watching him when we went to see them here in beautiful Oregon. My big brother Roy probably thot I was nuts. I miss him ... :).
thank you again for your part in bringing these to our eyes and ears lolo. truly reminds me how lucky I was to be able to be alive then and now. you can still feel that magic, taste and smell the venues even, that feeling of knowing you were at a grateful dead show and there was no other place on earth better to be at that brief moment in time. I miss our boys that have past on, but the magic they made together truly does live on and we're better inside and out for it.
OMG. Just looked it up; Brent died 3 days later. Still makes me sad as life can be so hard. I hope to be sipping my wine at 100 in the old folks home and watching this video over and over. Thanks Brent, Jerry, Pig, Keith, Robert, maybe I can play the block or cowbell with you in the afterlife :)

I was named after Brent. Was a super rare name until we moved to a small town and I tried out for minor hockey and there were 6 Brent's in the dressing room.
I know - I was there for his last song, too. Miss those stunning 3-part harmonies! Weren't we blessed to be there, paying joyful attention along with the cosmos?
We did the tour starting in Raleigh on to the end....had a great time with my friends...y'all know the story....if you've been there...after a couple weeks on the road in campgrounds and rest stops and hotels sleeping on the floor. You kind on each other's nerves but you work through and get over it. Man Brent was so good for the band until he checked out. Got home from the tour shortly after this show and my brother told me that Brent was gone.
I was so happy to be there not knowing what was about to happen 😢😢 choked me up...dammm
That entire summer fall tour was great up till we lost Brent. A legend indeed. RIP my friend.
I have no idea how RUclips recommended this to me but I remember these shows.
This was my last show after 8 yrs. I had been in the military since 86. After I got out, I went on tour for spring and summer. I had agreed to join a reserve unit for $$ and soon after ending 6 months on the road, I was called up for Desert Shield/Storm.
I was there, shows were so good I barely remember then😂⚡️🥀💀
Never ever will there be another band like this..
RIP Brent 🙏💜✨🎤🎹🎶🎵 Best keys/singer the Dead ever had imho. Gone 31 years yesterday but not forgotten!!
i loved Brent so much. I would be mostly watching him when we went to see them here in beautiful Oregon. My big brother Roy probably thot I was nuts. I miss him ... :).
Yeah, what a show! Was disappointed no Alpine that year however, Tinley was a special treat.
Great song..And a great tribute...Thank you!
thank you again for your part in bringing these to our eyes and ears lolo.
truly reminds me how lucky I was to be able to be alive then and now.
you can still feel that magic, taste and smell the venues even, that feeling of knowing you were at a grateful dead show and there was no other place on earth better to be at that brief moment in time.
I miss our boys that have past on, but the magic they made together truly does live on and we're better inside and out for it.
That feeling of being there was the best. It healed me, sure as any medicine ever has. Could use that now. Miss those days.
I put this tune on when I feel i'm in a small space. Makes my thinking more objective.
Great song 💯 💛 this version ✌️🧡
Indeed a sad date ! RIP Brent
This Was My Song for My old Man
MY RIDE OR DAY..A DECADE TOGETHER..HE DIED LAST YEAR..MISS YOU BABE
MY JOHN JOHN
One could paint Brent as a martyr. Or one could paint him as a troubled soul who fucked up and packed up him bags. Proud to say I saw him play live 30+ times. I raise my glass.
And it is absolutely beautiful! :)
Every band in the world should cover this song. It's nice to hear the dead doing it
God there will never never be music like this again makes me sad
WE LOVE YOU, BRENT! RIP!
