Damn, Jonathan....these are great builds....thanks, I love this era of Toyota trucks, You’re keeping my local lottery agent busy with me buying dream tickets! Peace.
Jonathan I've just watched this video for the second time all the way through. What a lovely restoration, not over the top. If it was mine id have kept the genuine badges on the tail gate.
Youre killing me over here. I recently rebuilt a run of the mill 98 pre-runner with a blown motor I shipped out east from California. I never gave a shit about owning a truck but after rebuilding this one Im in love. Ive always owned an old 911 but im starting to think its time to let her go and pick up another Toyota.
Really liking the late 90's Toyota's that you guys are doing, shoot I like everything Icon does, I hope to one day see a first gen Tundra Resto-Modded by Icon. I guess it's safe to say my dream truck would be a Reto-Modded first gen Tundra.
What are the advantages of restoring a 96 TLC, vs Buying a new TRD 4Runner... I do prefer the old look/feel but seems way more expensive for similar performance. Im new to this so no flame please.
I wish companies like yours would sell kits for the do it yourself guys that cant afford the $20k price tag of having someone like you to do it for us.
@@0537059 $100k for them to install it sure. Im talking about a simple kit with things like wiring harness's and engine mounts.... You can source your own engine and LC.
@@1Torquedsoul That's because Icon doesn't JUST do wiring harness and engine... to have the Icon badge, they go thru EVERYTHING, litterally, re-plating every bolt, going thru every single inch of the cabin making it perfect and perfect upholstery. If you do it at home, it's you own project. not Icon's.
I had an FZJ80 just like that one. It was my favorite truck of all time, and I've had many! Can I be so bold and ask what a restoration like this costs? Much abliged!
I found a Back Yard Find FZJ80 that I am slowly going through. I think I might have stumbled into your shop while seeking answers on some mechanical thing a few months back. Hmm, small world. Anyway, were did you source those headlights? Are they brighter than stock? I can barely see out of the lights at night. Thanks.
It's not a common swap, but both the 4BT and 6BT Cummins will fit. The 4bt is loud and rattly - not very refined, and the 6bt adds quite a bit of weight to the front-end (obviously). I would personally love to build a 6bt FZJ80.
My mistake, because of the dark color in the lower part of the doors, I thought it was a lexus. I really like the color of the grill and the cleaning without any visel. Very nice color!
Johnathan, would you diesel swap one? If so, what would you use? Ive seen 12v Cummins swapped FZJs but what would be your choice? Hino has a nice 6 cyl diesel.
Jonathan another beautiful 80 series with a "to die for interior". Personally I don't think the front and rear look right with the removal of all the badges and the clear turn signal/running lights, but then I'm not the one who paid the bill. Keep up your excellent work and when will you talk somebody into a full set of matching luggage?
Ever rehab a "95" Mitsubishi Montero SUV, with the Safari sun roof ?.. Like to see that happen.. It seems you only work on Toyotas for the most part...BTW, mid nineties Monteros are million mile SUVs....Subbed and always a thumbs up...
We also don't see them restoring 1st gen Tacomas and 3rd gen 4runners from this era. I think TLC just deals with rarer vehicles rather than only Toyotas. If it isn't an FJ40/60/80 it's an early Ford Bronco or old crew cab pickup with these guys.
Jonathan. Wow. I love the reserved stealth look. This is so sexy and attractive. I had a 1997 FJZ80. I miss it but it was a pig on gas and you could make a sandwich in the time it took to get yo 80 miles an hour. Lol. I have a dream of putting a modern Tundra Motor and trans in one but that’s obviously when I retire. Anyways. Thank you so much for making these dreams come true. I remember years ago I’d put pictures of Lamborghini and Porsche’s on our walls. Well now I’m older my dream car is a ICON. A boy can dream cant he ...??? #ICON4x4 🙏🏽
Finally a real restoration for an 80s. Well done Retro-Mod
Jonathan, you are the best. When I start makin' the good money in the next decade you'll be seein me about my own FZJ80 brother!
I love your passion and your work! It would be nice to see more clips from the process in the workshop while you talk. Keep up the good work! 🙏💪
ABSOLUTELY Beautiful! Can't wait till you're restoring our 1995... Have a great day.
The video shot transitions is a really nice touch for content

Videos are looking better. Love the golden hour photography.
Knowing where he's driving, it's more dawn than dusk for 'golden hour' - most of his drives tend to be in the morning.
You take out Toyota reliability and put in Gmh,, Crazy !
Agreed. Love the restoration but if I’m ever lucky enough to have them build me one I’ll ask for a Toyota drivetrain. Maybe the Tundra engine/trans.
I never get tired of watching these videos.

You do really great work! You are the Picasso of Land Cruisers!
Will you ever do a 100 series? Perhaps a 105 series solid axle swap with LS power?
Why Dou you change the Motor its slwoly the Original motor
When r we getting icon mercury EV video?
Wow when I fall into some money, I will have you build me one of these!

The purist in me would have to see you going with a Toyota motor for this... all else is fantastic!
THAT IS THE BEST MODEL LAND CRUISER EVER...
Unbelievably beautiful work.

The 80’s let everyone know that you’re a connoisseur. Also, there is a lot to be said for the concept of “stealth wealth.”
Dou you sell the mounts for the front bumper lights? I would love a set.
Very nice! I like old and new alike, as long as it's good quality! To which you nailed it! The small nerdy details make it perfect!
Beautiful video, beautiful car
Very well done. I would definitely take this one over Rogan’s.
Loving the switch panel to finally ditch the ARB cheapo set up. Now sell it back to them and reap the rewards for your efforts!
I wish companies like yours would sell kits for the do it yourself guys that cant afford the $20k price tag of having someone like you to do it for us.
SoCal Hillbilly sorry but add another 80k for this frame-off V8 swap platform. And that doesn’t cover the initial price of the clean FJ80

RHD drive versions for the UK?
You guys do such amazing work.
These videos make my day! Love it!
Very clean and subtle. I love it.
Great looking 80!
Wow, this is such a killer build. Well done!
I had an FZJ80 just like that one. It was my favorite truck of all time, and I've had many! Can I be so bold and ask what a restoration like this costs? Much abliged!
stage 3 restoration...130k more or less

Really mouthwatering 80 series! Awesome job:)
What kind of headlights did you guys use?
@Jonathan Ward
That Leather is absolutely fantastic what brand is it ?
Have you ever done an International Harvester Scout? I would love to see you Resto-Mod one of those.
Bison leather! You think that will look good in my Cadillac?
Hey I know it's a hard question to answer but how much can cost a car Like this ?
Amazing video
This thing is ready to go 4x4ing in the suburbs!
True
Would you ever take on a 1995 Nissan pathfinder as a project?
And the pursuit of excellence continues...
Nice work
Good and the best restration in the whole world . From all veiws machnical , body , electrical , paint , and every single bit.. wish the best businesd
Ayyo my name is Jonathan as well and I'm a random 17 year old dude who also love Land Cruisers!! 😁
Would the Cummins diesel be an option on a similar vehicle??
So long as your budget holds out, and it's PHYSICALLY possible, you can do pretty much whatever you want.
It's not a common swap, but both the 4BT and 6BT Cummins will fit. The 4bt is loud and rattly - not very refined, and the 6bt adds quite a bit of weight to the front-end (obviously). I would personally love to build a 6bt FZJ80.
There is another company (Proffitt’s Resurrection Land Cruisers) that fits the new cummins R2.8 and they've got good results.
@@Professor_Carl_Satan Think he's probably talking about that R2.8 crate engine. It's probably possible, but not CA legal.
Uzzi Huerta Pacheco what would you expect to spend for that?
Soooooo good! I miss my 80 series!
Love your work!
Another great product thx for sharing sir.
It seems it was a Lexus LX450. now no plastic, grate! Love it. I'm building mine with an LS3 + a 6L80 :)
My mistake, because of the dark color in the lower part of the doors, I thought it was a lexus. I really like the color of the grill and the cleaning without any visel. Very nice color!
I don’t understand why you keep putting these videos up. Every one of your builds makes me want to sell my house so I can buy one of your creations.
Kyle D 😂right!
Just put a roof top tent on it and you wouldn’t be homeless.
Jonathan Ward exactly. 😂😂
Jon this is a beaut. Golly man. I want one yesterday
What kind of price tag is associated with a resto like this?
Johnathan, would you diesel swap one? If so, what would you use? Ive seen 12v Cummins swapped FZJs but what would be your choice? Hino has a nice 6 cyl diesel.
Ian Craig I’d go for the Aussie spec TLC 79 4.5 V8 diesel.
Dunno if it would fit in the 80 though....
I think an 80 series with a 5.7L 3UR engine would be ideal and stay true to the Toyota legacy
ya they will charge you 300k USD for that build ,, this one is at 210k US its not pocket change
@@USA4thewin what are fuckin margins on that? This is straight robbery.
I'd love one of these
Gorgeous
Beautiful!
Great stuff 👍
I see you keep on exploring farther into Simi from Chatsworth, in your videos at least. Love the builds
I pray that some day I can afford to be a customer of yours Mr Ward.
You're the king !!
It’s a shame you don’t have the 79 series land cruiser, much more preferred for 4x4ing in Australia
I’d like to hear more about driving impressions. Loved my old 80 series, but it was definitely a Land Cruiser and not a Land Speeder.
i'd love to get a 1992 4runner done by you guys.
Hey guys how's it hanging.
How much did you spent on the car?
I'm going to say $50,000
I'd love to see a gen 5 bronco by icon. Lots of plastic I know. Maybe with a retro look.
Wireless CarPlay - nice!!
She's a beauty!
Clean!
Love it !!!!
Perfect
i would love to see what you could do to my old kangoo..
Top class
I did this same engine/trans swap and guess What? The General Motors stuff kept breaking down. Never put gm in Toyota.
Exactly what I was thinking, thanks.
Please do a video in Electric ICON Mercury.....
So awesome! Have a 95 80 with the 1Hz in Australia. Is there anyone who can do a similar build down here?
also like, that the roof rails and the rear wind deflector got removed.
Need more of these 80 series builds. Can you show is Joe Rogans?
He already did, over a month ago: ruclips.net/video/xPg-hlhoa64/видео.html
This is ridiculous ridiculous bad ass ness omg
I actually want you to tell us even more nitty gritty details!
Nice.
Nothing to say, pure insanity in details.
How much do you think you can safely with a modified 80 like this?
How does he remember *all* these details, from the pile of carpet to the part number of the stereo to the type of bison and leather texture options. 😳
I just fell in love I have a lexus version
