I have dobinson 6inch lift with +400kg constant weight springs in the rear. I have drawers and tools and fridge etc. Interesting fact about the fzj 80 and 105. If you put your rear axle on the scales and you have more that 1950kg total, your diff is over loaded.
@@CruisingTheLand Good morning, Sir. I have a 1994 80 series with a 4 inch lift and want to install 35's on it. Will the stock rims work without wheel spacers on them? If not, what is the sweet spot for offset and backspacing on rims to operate without spacers? BTW, Otis is a handsome brute. M.T.
You should be fine with a 4 inch lift. There's lots of room on a 80 for 35s especially with 4". However, worse case scenario, you get spacers. I put spacers because I like the wider stance, it wasn't bc of rub issues. And I am a 3" lift.
@CruisingTheLand Thank you for your response to my question! That makes me feel much more confident now. Some said that I'd need to have a 4.50 backspace and a +25 offset to keep the tires underneath the fenders and flares. Again, thank you! M.T.
@@CruisingTheLand I bought my 94 brand new off the car carrier. Still got it. I moved up to Alaska 8 years ago and brought it with us. Trust me, my wheels are dirty. 🤣
For anyone looking for spring alternatives. Eibach started making 80 series springs. Their HD spring is comparable to the OME 2863, but actually smoother due to one exta coil.
I live in chile and I have a 1996 Lx 450 , I want to put spacer but the sale man said me it is not posible put spacer with center because it has manual lockers in fron
I am getting my 93 FJ80 this week after a complete rebuild costing a fortune. What are insurance options out there? I am trying to get stated or agreed value but so far everyone points to Haggerty for classic.they only insure if the vehicle will be driven about 3000 miles a year. I never anticipated insurance would be an issue because so many are rebuilding rigs of all makes.
Haggerty just started insuring 80 series. I pushed then last year and they finally approved it. But yes, 3000 miles or less a year. and stated value. So you can say 20k or you can say 40k and pay more in insurance. If you have armor on your vehicle, it's all about having Coverage for the other car..
hiii!! me again!! PHH has been replaced on my 93, i checked the head gaskets like you suggested and they look good. she’s sitting on 35’s and my rpm’s DO NOT match yours, they’re SOOO much higher. i live in colorado and it has a snorkel..i wanna take her up in the mountains but im kind of scared to get on i70 with the lack of power on this thing..
I admire your lc 80s. I want an lx600 but ashamed there is no icon suspension options for it. Disappointed also in dissent choices. Maybe down the road there will be more options
I just acquired an 80 series and I have the icon 3 3” lift waiting to be installed. I don’t think the kit comes with the reservoir brackets. Please let me know where I can find them or what the solution is.
I just installed a Icon Stage 6 on a 200 series a.d.Icon supplied mounting brackets (it's a triangle flat metal piece, nothing elaborate. I would verify with Icon what is in your package.
Hey man, love your videos. Got myself an 80 and just wondering if you know what the minimum lift I would need to install to be able to run 35inch muddies comfortably i.e no rub at full steering lock? Thanks
That would be a great combo, since King makes incredible shocks, but they don't make the springs. I would go dual rate springs. I have Kings and Icon dual rates on Black Mamba (my hdj81 Diesel JDM Land Cruiser)
Hey man great video and thank you for posting it. I have a newly triple locked Lexus LX 450, and reside in New Mexico. I wanted to see what you would recommend on gears as I’m planning several trips to Colorado. I’ll be putting a 3” OME 80 Series Land Cruiser with BP-51, and Cooper Discoverer MAXX ST 285/75R17. My question is what gear would you recommend? I don’t ever plan of going over the 34-35 inch tires.
So here is my experience. I run 35s and I chose not to regear. Reason is, I am mostly at sea-level in Southern California and rarely have to climb the Grapevine or El Cajon Passes.. But when I head up to the desert and high ground, I definitely feel the climb is tough and stuck between gears when heading up a grade. This is with the 1FZ-FE engine of course. With my Diesel 1HD-FT, no re gearing necessary, as the torque is plentiful to hold the gear and not kick down. The Diesel is just a different beast. So ultimately a Diesel with 35s no problem, a FZJ with 35s in the mountain altitude and hills to climb, I would regear.
What are the differnces between dobinson and OME? It seems like the defacto was OME but now I see people getting dobinson instead. It seems like OME only makes springs for people with weight and so dobinsons lighter end spring are better for those without it. Excited about your next dobinson video. Still debating between dobinson stock height with yellow springs or OME.
Dobinson has a large variety for all situations. That's why I got their heavies. I will be putting their 2" base lift in a 80 series very soon.. Video coming!
What about bump stops? When doing a lift/bigger tires do you need them for all bigger than stock sizes or just 35s? Any recommendations on one you like?
At 8 minutes you mention spacer can pop out...Thats BS. Spacers go on top of coils & extend free height of the coil. Only shocks that are too long to retain coils you have issues. For instance, you need a free coil height of 22" for a 28" front shock on an 80 series. If you have a 20" coil like an OME 850J you need a 26.5" shock no longet to retain the coil snug in the buckets.
White the black powder coat aftermarket bumpers, black roof rack and black sliders. A black or dark colour like gun metal grey etc. Wheels would look a whole lot better in my opinion. I would even paint the flares black, cuz the black theme on the grey Toyota LC would really look good.

I’m a slinky guy running their Extra Heavy duty rear coils, been good for all the weight. Dobinson makes great gear.
Good call on going new coils.
Lots of good info here 👌. That white 200 series is sweet. As a LX570 owner I just love the 200 series as daily drivers. Tons of power but super plush.
A 200 is definitely modern and powerful.. The last of the V8s.

The stock rims look exceptional with that lift and those tires. 👍🏻
I still think these are the best rims on a 80 series. Concave, light and timeless.. When in clean condition, nothing beats them!

I didn't know you could get the Dobinson's in a color other than teal, good to know.
Yes, wanted to keep it black...
Can you tell me about Otis’s headlights? And the two canisters on the rear ladder.
Head lights are Angel Eyes, Canisters are RollPax.. One is Tequila and other is Whisky
