This was interesting but hopefully you won’t get too close to present day since it’s harder, and you have had source issues in the past with several series.

I had the privledge of attending a talk led by Maya Angelou, and I have to say that she was as well spoken live as she was on the page- a powerful poet, wordsmith, and inspiration.
I was in my 9th grade about 6 years ago when we did a play about the life and struggles of Maya Angelou based on her "I know Why the Caged Bird Sings". Love from India
Growing up in NC she was a prof at one of Universities here she was spoken of a good bit in the state, and I loved her poems and her writing and she is an idol of mine.
I learned about her during my African American Literature class in college and she was referenced in a sitcom I watched; it's nice to see a video on her.
Never listen about her down here. We learn something about Luther King in school, and something about Malcolm X, but I never knew anything about Maya Angelou. I'm glad to follow this channel and hear those amazing histories!
Freeman being stomped to death is still too merciful. But God you guys did amazing with this episode. Read some of Maya Angelou's in an African-American Literature class which was an amazing experience. Helped that my professor was an immigrant from Senegal 🇸🇳 and provided some unique angles to her story.
Hats off to the teacher who empowered Maya the empowering to open up her communication options. She likely would've still been the brilliant writer she became but verbal communication makes getting ones ideas into the world slightly easier
Maya Angelou was a person I never really knew too much about aside from the name. I have a suspicion I'll be reading more about her the rest of the month thanks to y'alls work. Thank you
Is sad to see today that the efforts of amazing people like her seems fruitless in the sense that things have changed in baby steps instead of big leaps.
Bro I am legit spooked. I decided to do some random research into Maya Angelou after her poetry and a quick wiki intro shake me, then youtube her name. Low and behold Extra Credits made a video on her today.
i was lucky enough to have an opportunity to hear Maya Angelou speak shortly before she died. unfortubately i was pretty young, so i don't really remember any of what she said

Anyway, tl;dr thank you so much for this, Extra Credits crew! t. White Brazilian guy
One thing I must say is that I really hate the term micro-aggression. Especially when it's used next to a depiction of something certainly not 'micro'. Knowingly slandering and humiliating someone knowing they'd risk harm by resisting isn't a small thing.
Please do something for Indian History like Mauryas Gupta Empire or Ancient Indian History The Conquest of India was a pretty bad series which had very little Indian history. Show MORE INDIAN HISTORY and less Colonialism.
So... what did Mr. Freeman do that was so horrendous? I didn't try Google because Half-Life exists, and all I got from Wiki was already covered (which is already bad enough, but I'm morbidly curious).
Isn't that a bit harsh? I mean, I've read her autobiography and her upbringing and rags-to-riches life story is certainly inspiring. Even if her claim to fame is 'just' being married to the POTUS.

This is at a time when 1 in 4 families had cars and no highways (till 1955) to drive them on. No internet or televisions (not popular till '39), so she heard by news paper, radio or someone called her on a lan line. This is a gross exaggeration to say she's hiding ppl daily in her grandmom's basement from all the "lynchings".
