Regarding Ukraine, I hope you could do a one off episode about something the country’s history. I know these get a while to be made, it’s nice for people to support Ukraine in ways we can. Putin has claimed in his speeches that Ukraine has no history, and while the country isn’t like Poland or Finland with more separate history from Russia it’s not true that Ukraine has no history.

Great video, but I am a little disappointed that you did not say a strong political statement and did not hit hard on politicians who use health care only as a tool to gain or retain power. You only said that some myths are spread by politicians. You should have said directly that some extremist people invent and propagate medical myths to keep women subservient to men.

Maternal imprintation theory is one of those weird false but also kind of true in a weird way thing. Stress absolutely causes miscarriages, and being able to observe that would have strengthened the seemingly variacity of the theory. There's also preliminary research in many areas indicating that there are several traits that are determined not by genetics, but by interuterine enviroment. And we absolutely know about substances where consuming them during pregnancy will harm the fetus.

Those beliefs are not so far off in my culture. One of our local news programs will often feature stories about strange pregnancies. Take the case of the baby born with one eye. When the mothers are asked about the cause of these pregnancies, their reasons will often be linked to maternal impression theory. Baby with one eye? Lady ate a lot of pineapples. (Turns out she was married to her second cousin). No one can blame them for these beliefs since they live in the rural parts of the country. They also cannot afford for medical care.

I noticed the pictures of hair and heartburn when discussing pregnancy folktales, and that one’s actually probably true! There was at least one study done that showed a significant number of women who had heartburn during pregnancy (like, 85% or something like that) had children with hair, and the women who didn’t have heartburn usually had bald babies! The researchers think it’s because the hormones responsible for hair growth also happen to relax the muscles around the top of your stomach (whatever that sphincter is called), allowing stomach acid to go back up to it esophagus and cause heartburn! I looked it up when I was pregnant with my son because I had the WORST, CONSTANT heartburn. He was born with SO MUCH HAIR for a blonde baby. I can believe it’s true!

As a bunny mama, I approve of this episode! If course I didn't personally give birth to Elvis, though I know when he was born (3/7/2017) and have watched rabbits give birth before--including stillborn bunnies, so sad.

When the miscarriage was mentioned, I kind of knew it was probably a case of psychosis. Miscarriage and stillbirth are such severely traumatic situations, more than we realize, especially if you want to expand your family. I wonder if the mother-in-law thing was probably just a way of feeling less embarrassed about it, because coping methods can be very.. odd and unsafe, like this.

There are many symptoms of mental disorder. Inserting foreign objects, or faking pregnancies are among them. While conjecture, it is always interesting to see how human psychology responded to mind disorders throughout history.
