It’s nice to see you know about the Buick V6. It is a criminally underrated engine, along with the GM 60 degree V6. I would probably still be driving my sixth gen Grand Prix (which had the latter) if I hadn’t lost it in an accident five years ago.
@@Jake_Hamlin The Barra is a good engine too, but it’s not as common and we didn’t get it in anything on this side of the Pacific. Both translate to fewer parts available and pretty much no aftermarket support for us. It’s the same reason that RB and JZ swaps are less popular here. For many markets, those are fairly cheap, reliable engines that local mechanics have been wrenching on for decades. For us, the JZ was only seen in our Supras and (less commonly) a couple Lexus models, and the RB wasn’t available in ANYTHING Nissan sold here. While inarguably great engines that can make a lot of power, they’re expensive grey imports that relatively few mechanics know what to do with. When the cars these engines came in started reaching the 25 year mark (the Federally-mandated minimum age for most grey imports), prices shot through the roof. It doesn’t make a lot of sense to build one unless it’s going in the car it came from or a car that can easily accept it. Meanwhile, you’ve got the oft-overlooked supercharged 3.8L that’s still littering junkyards across North America. GM put versions of the 3.8L in everything from minivans, to higher-spec versions of my Grand Prix and the Monte Carlo, to the little Buick Reatta, with a supercharger available on several of them. It even ended up in some Holden models, which I suspect is why you’re familiar with it. Maybe it can’t make as big of power as some of those other engines, but it’s cheap, makes healthy enough numbers, and is compact enough to fit in that Fiero he was looking at and other smaller cars. You don’t even need to make room for an intercooler or anything because it’s supercharged rather than turbo. To fit even a naturally-aspirated Barra in that Fiero (a transverse rather than longitudinal application), you’d probably have to cut a ton of the body away and widen the frame. Anyway, it really is a shame, because I love straight sixes in general and I’d like to build a Falcon Ranchero. A Barra would make a lot of sense for that car.
Trevvy! I see you buddy. Don’t give up on this shit. You make the best content on RUclips when motivated. The Supra build. Mustang rush. And hell even the ranger mess was a blast to watch.

I cried a little when you was talking about putting the 4.8 in the mustang in the last video. I understand it and all. You should replace the oil main line gsket wich is under the timing cover. Early models od 350 and do on have a lot od problems with those. I was thinking about this idea the other day mc but doing a budget build on both cars like 4 or 5k each and put them next to each other, so your able to do wheels and tire, coil overs, lower control arms, power adders etc
Might as well pick up that other motor as a spare also there are differences in the G35 and 350z harnesses so its good that u are usung the 350z harness u also need to use the 350z oil pressure sensor they are different also another thing is the auto pilot bushing is really hard to get out i usually just leave it and wrap electrical tape around the clutch alignment tool as even as possible to line up the clutch havent had an issue doing it this way
Bread or Grease to get poilt bearings out of auto motors. It's easy stuff thr cavity use pilot bushing to push the bushing out. I'm sure they have vids here on you tube. Done it on a few vg30detts
I can honestly speak from personal experience, a Fiero with a 3.8 supercharged moves. My friend would always beat the 5.0 fox bodies, and the Camaro Z-28s also. I got to drive it a couple of times and got to see some 5.0 LX headlights in the mirror.
swap a fierro with a 3.5l LX9 or more recent GM 3.6L, the 3.8 are reliable for sure but they lack power. The LX9 is around 200hp 220 lb-ft NA OHV (I have had one with my first car a 04 chevrolet malibu was nice)and the 3.6l LLT if I remember the code, is around 300hp but its a direct injection with vvt and DOHC
The supercharged 3.8 is bulletproof as it gets and is 260hp stock and smaller supercharger pulley , spacers e85 and few other little things with tune and your making way over anything close you usually find in them.. I have a single turbo grand prix GTP and before this I maxed absolutely everything I could outta the supercharged setup and it was a fun daily now its a little much for everyday use
Yeah hard to argue with 240/260hp and 280ft/lbs stock (97-03 were 240hp) 04 up made 260. I miss my gtps but what i dont miss is changing 4t65e's in the driveway every couple months. They dont like anything over 300whp when they're stock.
@@sbcdime1 easy to argue, comparing a NA engine to an already supercharged engine, also the 3.5l a 60 degree unlike the 90 degree of the 3.8. strip the supercharger of the 3.8 and you got 200hp with gen 3. LZ4, is the same has the LX9, goes to 220hp with VVT
@@ItsJust2SXTs lets be realistic tho. What real aftermarket is there for the 60 degree v6? Like none. The 60 degree may be more rev happy but the 3.8 either sc or na produces more tq. Remember horsepower is the result of torque and even so you take the na 3.8 and install a zzp intake mani and its making quite a bit more power and tq than the 60 degree. Then for shits and giggles a stage 1 camshaft (yes the smallest aftermarket) and things get downright unfair in this comparison.
The clutchxperts clutch kits aren’t all that bad lol. $300 for a single cam civic clutch with flywheel. Have them in two of my cars and haven’t had any issues.
