I think Fleur is such a great example of how content can evolve after having a baby. She still posts a lot of her pre-baby style content around beauty and home etc. but has also slowly merged some baby/mum content in too.

kirsten_ducky @lilypebbles I agree, I’m a slightly older viewer at 45 with two older teenage boys and I think Fleur de Force had a good balance both early on after giving birth and now with a good mixture of content. X

She has also done a great job of showing some glimpses of her daughter, but not featuring the baby on her channel. The baby doesn't get to choose whether they're online, so I like Fleur's approach of fairly minimal exposure.

Hi Lily, I think Louise Petland is a good person to talk to/ look at. Because she shared a lot of Darcy as a baby and toddler but now has successfully phased her out, so that she’s only included if she wants to be and when there’s a specific event that is relevant and even then it’s kept to a minimum, usually Louise talks around her. Which is nice because you can do the children focused content, e.g. kiddies clothes hauls, but the babas need not feature.

I have so much respect for you for taking actual maternity leave! Obviously we will miss you, but I think it's the most sensible and healthy decision in the long run (for you and your baby and I think for your channel as well). I mean maternity leave is such a normal and natural thing for working women in most of Europe, so why shouldn't you be able to take it as well? X

In terms of putting your kids online, I love Louise Pentland's approach. Over the years, she has started to share less, especially now as Darcy is older, but shares more of the baby, Pearl. I would love for you two to do a collab as you are the few RUclipsrs I still love and watch! x

I think it's good to be relaxed about the birth too. I wanted to start in the suite and have a pool but I was induced and little miss had other ideas... It was all fine in the end. Good for you taking time off too. You'll be amazed at how much your priorities change once she's here. X

My best advice for prospective new mums is to buy a day planner (ones where one day is a whole page) and take it in your hospital bag. When baby is born you use this to write EVERYTHING: including baby stats, memories, appointments, tips (you get from nurses, lactation experts etc..), sleep times, diaper details (poo, pee, colour of poo - doctors may ask about this at baby wellness visits, also lack of wet diapers later can indicate dehydration). I've had three girls and used a planner and I found it really helpful when doctor asks about the number and colour/consistency of poo and milestones. Also I would record the baby's normal temperature so I had something to compare to when they got sick. Also, you can get a sense of your baby's natural schedule by noticing patterns and then you can plan your day around their nap times etc... Lastly (altho should have been first), you can keep track of your breastfeeding so note down which side your fed from and for how long etc... Sorry this was long-winded but I wanted to pass on my knowledge and help you out! I'm sure you'll be an awesome mom! :)

Aww this was so lovely Lily and real! I think your approach is spot on! Go with the flow, I thought I would need all the drugs and ended up having a water birth with my first and it was incredible, also incredible what your body is capable of...It’s a difficult time when the bubble stops and the visits stop, but I have a big family so I always had someone to pop in, I was driving about a month later again so I just got out is often as I could once the injections stage was over, we went to baby swim and sensory classes etc...Ahh it’s such a wonderful time so enjoy ever second of it. Unfortunately both of my pregnancies were awful with me being constantly hospitalised with hypermesis but it was worth it all as Harrison and Layla are 9 and 6 now 🥰 Anyways all the luck and love in the world to you and Rich x

My parent's are the age of many of my friend's grandparents so when you said you felt pressure to do things earlier because your parent's are older I really felt that. I have also been experiencing a lot of anxiety as I get older about the realization that one day I won't have them around anymore which full on freaks me out. It's nice to know other people are experiencing these same feelings.

Fantastic video!! My only suggestion is to do a little research on what to expect once baby is born rather than just ‘wing it’. As a midwife I find soo many parents spend hours researching baby prams, bottles etc but nothing about what to do with the baby once they’re born ie normal sleep patterns, feeding patterns, settling techniques, normal bowel movements and urination and also how to recognise a good latch, milk transfer etc etc and I’m constantly being asked why their baby is crying a lot on night 2 after being born and parents not realising this is a totally normal thing and experienced by almost all parents...I’m sure as you’ve got sisters and nieces, nephews etc you’re more in tune with these things but it just surprises me how little research parents do on how to actually care for a baby and how to know if they’re thriving or not. Thank you for your very honest responses to all those questions! I’ve been loving all the pregnancy/baby content and I’m sure there’s lots of new subscribers (like myself!) now you’re pregnant so I wouldn’t worry about numbers and view count etc...just as you’re going into a different phase of life your followers may change but I’m sure many will stay the same as you’re very relatable ☺️

Postnatal anxiety is real. I suffered from it badly. The most positive way I’ve seen somebody deal with this is Anna Sconny Joly (sorry if I’ve spelt her name wrong) After having her 4th child, she would get ready every morning and walk within her area with her baby. If I ever had a baby again I would do the same. Walking and getting out of the house can be a really great way to get some fresh air and this can really help with anxiety.

    • @mariahall4414
      @mariahall4414 5 лет назад +2

I used to the same - first thing in the morning, no matter how tough the night had been and how anxious I was feeling, i would just throw some clothes on and go for a walk with the baby. Everything seemed much better and more manageable after that!

Had to stop to comment. Please please please keep an eye on movement. I have two children. With my second I hadn't felt him move at 39 weeks for the day but as I was busy I didnt notice too much until the early evening. When I couldn't stir him with drinks, music etc I rang the hospital and went in with my Mum as my husband works in London. I thought it would be fine. Fast forward two hours and they gave me an emergency c section, my husband missed it. He had a knot in his cord and hsd pood. If I hadn't of gone in he wouldn't of survived, they told me I had saved his life. He is now 4. I had already lost my Dad to cancer the year before so this was a scary time.
My point is don't ever worry about going in feeling you are wasting their time, or leave it until the next day or think they are slowing down for Labour. I cannot stand people who scare expectant mum's and it's something I have never done. BUT with this I tell as many people as I can as it could save a life. Take care xx

I'm the same stage as you Lily but based in Ireland. Advice I got on movement which I think is good is to know what's normal for your baby as opposed to x amount of kicks during the day. I know my little Bug is really active between 9 and 11am, chilled then until afternoon and then go,go,go until about 10.30pm. I know that I should ring the hospital if that changes and there's less movement at the times I expect. We were also told that baby doesn't slow down movement before labour at all, it's a myth, so reducing levels need to be checked out. @Deanie Winks glad all was ok for you in the end. x

Hi Lily, I don’t comment much but I felt very compelled to after watching your video. I’ve followed you for a long time, and am not in a similar life place as you ( I’m not pregnant, own a house / doing renos, married, etc.). Even though I’m not, I really do enjoy watching your content - maybe one day I’ll search your past videos when I’m in similar circumstances for reference.
One of the many things I enjoy most is that you have a variety - vlogs, beauty, real life things, etc. I just wanted to share that I am along for the ride of your pregnancy and mom life. Even though we don’t know each other I’m so happy for you, and I’m excited to see how you grow in this transition of life.
Another thing I really enjoy about your videos (and instagram) is that you are honest. To some it may come across as moany, but everyone has shitty days and times they feel like laying on the couch. And I appreciate that you don’t fake it and you rather tell it like it is!
I know I speak for a lot of your viewers that we will be here throughout your ‘maternity leave’ waiting for you and we are willing to wait however long you need. We understand this is a special time and encourage you to do it, we will be here waiting to welcome you back. We can’t wait to see her beautiful face and share in the joy you will be feeling !
Wishing you all the best in the remainder of your pregnancy and a healthy and happy birth.
    Shelby (from Canada!)

Hi Lily, as you mentioned maternity pay/leave: It's very true, that part of being self employed absolutely sucks. I had 3 weeks off and then went straight back to work teaching Yoga and it was way too soon, I felt so much pressure that my clients were going to leave me, miss opportunities etc. In case you wasn't aware/forgot or maybe just didn't mention in the video, do head to the gov.uk website to fill in your form and check how much maternity pay you can be owed being self employed. It's not much but every bit helps. Opportunities come and go, you won't be missing out on anything, the only thing you can't gain back is enjoying the time and experience getting to know your baby. I'm currently pregnant with baby no.2 and have a completely different attitude to what I did 5 years ago. You look amazing and I'm loving seeing this side of you.

Ah, Lils this was SO lovely to watch! I was quite late on the Pebbles bandwagon and joined like a year ago but damn, woman I love you! haha I thoroughly enjoy your content and really feel like we're on the same wave-length so I wouldn't worry at all and totally trust your instincts with whatever you decide doing with your content in the coming months and years. As some people have mentioned in the comments, I think Fleur has had a very similar approach and as a long time viewer of hers, it felt very natural to transition along with her. Can't wait to hear the name and see if she has your or Rich's eyes which is probably the weirdest thing to say lol... oh and I am in love with your hair color in this light! Sending lots of love to you , Rich and Fridge! haha x

I've found this saying to be very true in regards to the newborn and also later stages: The days are long, but the years are short! If I may suggest, it's very important to feel the movements (not to count them or get obsessed, but know your own "normal" and follow any deviations from that) and call the hospital if they are not as usual. And I don't want to scare anyone, but better be safe. My doctor had a few cases where women didn't call the hospital and the next morning it was sadly too late. I also had a similar experience - woke up one morning and just felt that something is off. My daughter was never very active but that morning I could not feel her at all. Thankfully my midwife suggested I go to the hospital and long story short I was admitted, induced and at the end had an emergency C-section because the baby was in too much stress. And lastly, Lily this was such a great video!

Really enjoyed this video. I'm about the same stage in pregnancy. For us, getting pregnant wasn't fully planned - I'd come off my pill but we weren't actively trying. I feel very blessed for that. I'm also one of those people who sleep on my back and the struggle has been real to stay on my side! I've got a pillow that has a front & back support so kinda holds me in place which is great. I'm also glad to see you be so real about wanting to take time off, your followers will be here when you get back because I think we all appreciate that you want to spend as much time with your little girl in the beginning as possible. Enjoy it all! Oh & thanks for the tip in the earlier video about H&M jeans! How on earth did I make it to 25 weeks without those in my life!!

loved how truthful you were in the video answering those questions.
About hospital bag and snack - isotonic drinks to keep you going and some sweets for the sugar rush I'd say. Chances are you won't be thinking about eating.
Motherhood is the best/hardest journey there is, but it is so worth it xxx

I like how no-nonsense your are about everything! I can relate a lot, specially not having preconceptions about how the birth “should” be, etc. I think we’ll start trying at the end of this year, and I hope I stay as practical and relaxed about how I’m about everything with the pregnancy and future baby, just like you :)

As much as I appreciate the effort you put into everything you upload, I think, ultimately, most of us watching your content do so because of YOU, you know? Personally, I love seeing you go through all of these milestones and love to see how YOU evolve as a person after going through them. I guess what I'm trying to say is that yes, your content will change after having a baby but I think it'll just be a new and exciting side of you that we're going to get to discover along with you. Whew! I don't think I've ever commented something this long lol, but I've been watching your videos for a long time Lily and I'm super excited for baby Pebbles to come! Congrats to you and Rich

I’ve only recently discovered your channel through your pregnancy content, and have to say I loved this video! I’m currently 21 weeks pregnant and can relate to so much you said - I really miss shopping as well 😂 which is something I hadn’t even considered! I think your maternity leave sounds perfect, you just have to do what’s right for you (not to sound like one of those people!) and live in the moment ❤️

I wish for you a happy, healthy baby, that sleeps well, feeds well and likes her own company. I got blessed with a boy that gave me time to myself, which helps with the sanity during the challenging time of adjusting to new life. Stay healthy and happy and strong and enjoy it. Great video ☺️ Re hospital bag, I wouldn’t pack too many snacks for labour. By the time you’re allowed into hospital you’ll be so far gone the last thing you’ll want to do is eat! However snacks are good for after the birth when you realise how hungry you are. Same for magazines, music, aromatherapy stuff. Save it for at home when you’re killing time waiting for things to get going. At hospital you’ll be in the zone! Good luck xx

Love your video! I've got to empathise with you on your worry about getting no sleep. Before kids I was the same as you, I couldn't function with little or no sleep. After my first child who woke up 3 times a night for about the first 9 months then once in the night until she was over 1yr old, I felt so terrible at times but I adapted to the lack of sleep and have actually felt much better with my second child. Don't get me wrong I have my tired moments but all in all I've adapted better than I thought I would. I hope it's the same for you (or your daughter is a better sleeper than mine was!) X
