Harvey, have a look at this video by Scott Grammer "How To Relap Tape Heads (With New And Improved Camera Angles!)"...The method is so straightforward and anyone can do it and do it perfectly.

@@harveysvintageaudio It obviously works out OK, as long as you are careful and rock the head backwards and forwards as you rub it, so to keep the curved head profile. A bit of practice on an old head off a knackered tape machine would be a good starting point, not sure what they charge for re-lapping heads.
