      I can tell you... No fan of those players, but they are okay. Just change the stylus for a diamond one and you will have a great time with this player. It will not damage your record btw.. I am using a DJ turntable with a cartrige that tracks with 5g. That's rounabout the tracking force of little Crosley here. I have never ever damaged any record the last 8 years due to this tracking force. The statement he is providing is completely wrong. Just do yourself a favour and replace that stylus. It's an upgrade of $8 that improves sound quality by 200%.
      Enjoy the player! It looks very cool! And if your like the design and take compromises with the sound quality by the installed speakers it is more than fine. You can add some better active bookshelf speakers by yourself, if you want to get the best experience...

      @@theredspoon1763 Crosley's don't even track at 5g. They use a spring in the tone arm to counterbalance the weight. If you use a traditional scale, it'll show 5 grams or more because the spring isn't doing it's job and you're getting the weight of the cartridge. if you get a scale that weighs closer to the platter, you'll get a more accurate reading. You can adjust a spring counter balance easily too. Here is the thing, standard consumer turntables in the day would track closer to 3-5 grams and it's only recently that people pitched a fit about it.
      Crosley is just fine. I used to believe the hype that Crosley's were all crap. If you just want to listen to records, they do alright. Just upgrade the sapphire needle to a diamond one. My only issue is that the center spindle doesn't rotate with the turntable, instead it's stationary.

      My workhorse stereo setup is a $99 (new!) Target Heyday 2-speed turntable, a $60 pre-owned 1983-vintage Realistic (Radio Shack) AM/FM receiver, and a pair of $40 (new!) Dayton B652 speakers. Not high-end by any stretch, total investment just around $200. $30 more for the 'rack cabinet' it's set up in. It'll absolutely blow away a Crosley or Victrola or 1byOne or any of those 'suitcase' players and even their all-in-ones. I'm not exaggerating, either. It's a night and day comparison. With those suitcase things, you're literally hearing only HALF the music.
      Yes, it's quite a bit more money, but the sound quality is worlds better, it treats my records far more gently, and I have the option to add additional equipment very easily - it's set up for a cassette deck (which I've recently added), PLUS an auxiliary input for a CD player, Bluetooth receiver, or whatever.
      Is the improvement in sound quality worth the expense? Damn straight it is. And if I can swing it on MY budget, I'm betting you can swing it on yours. I put mine together over the course of a few months.
      Patience was indeed a virtue.

Like you can get MUCH better turntable setup for twice price but remember Crosley will damage your vinyls and if you own 5 vinyls for maybe 20 $ each the more expensive turntable will be much better..

      I bought my crosley (as of writing this) about 6 months ago. Initially, when I was first getting into Vinyl, I had 2 records and was listening to them out of the in-built speakers. Back then, it was a dream to even have a turntable and records, especially considering I only had a budget of about SGD$200 - which got me the crosley and the two records. Since then, I have increased my budget dramatically and have amassed a relatively large collection of records. I feel, my crosley isnt able to play my records the way i like them. It skips a lot on records I know never skip on other turntables, and I also fear that its beggining to damage them. As of writing this, I’m planning on buying a brand new Audio Technica AT-LP60XBT to replace my crosley. I will still defend the crosley for what it stands for; its good for newcomers and those who have a tight budget - also those who dont care about the sound quality, but rather the novelty of Vinyl. Its served me well, but until ive made my purchase and have received delivery, I refuse to play any of my Bowie, Queen, ELO or Beatles LPs on it. But its not a bad turntable. Whoever says its Bad probably did 1 hour of research on youtube. Its tracking force, while still quite high, is still in limits for Vinyl. It may be cheaply built and be of low quality material, but it’ll still work like a turntable until you buy a proper one down the line. Rest assured, if your new to vinyl, it wasnt a complete waste of money, you just had better options at your disposal.

    What you don't understand is that there is a market for Crosley's. My brother has one. All he wants to do is occasionally listen to one of his old albums from the 70's. It works fine for that. Not everyone aspires to be an audiophile. How many millions of people listen to shiity sounding mp3's with shiity ten cent ear plugs. Are crosley's junk? maybe but it's fine for some people. Not me though.

    • @xaenon
      @xaenon 6 лет назад +28

      +JustLikeGreta Even if the turntable itself was stellar (it isn't), the audio system in those things is absolutely abysmal. It's like hearing your favorite song on a cheap transistor radio - tinny, distorted, and lacking any sort of depth at all. Compare that experience with hearing the same song on a decent home stereo - there's a world of difference.
      Honestly. Your brother would be better off downloading his album from iTunes and listening to it via a decent quality Bluetooth speaker, than tearing up his vintage record on one of those wannabe Crapleys or their clones.
      I get that some people don't care. My point is they MIGHT care if they had something to hear their music on that sounded better.

    • @amandadenning2220
      @amandadenning2220 5 лет назад +16

      I'm not an audiophile, but I won't let a Crosley needle even touch my vynal records. Your brother should look into a nice vintage setup. Not so much for the sound, but to preserve his records. If his favorate record wears out, he'd have a hard time finding another. Especially an original pressing. The re pressings suck.

      If it damages the records then it is not just about sound quality. And if all he wants is to hear old songs he can either buy them on iTunes or copy his vinyl into digital which is quite easy these days. There is no excuse to using a Crosley.

      I personally wouldn't listen to vintage vinyl regardless of the record player because every time you listen to a record, it wears it out and damages it. It doesn't matter if your using a cheap crosley cruiser or an high quality expensive audio technica lp60. I have old Beatles, John Lennon, and Paul McCartney records from the 80's/90's and I plan on listening to them as little as possible so it doesn't get damaged.

    However, once I started buying my own records, I started thinking about longevity, and how a better turntable would be better for the records physically and sound wise. So I think, if you're in it for the long haul, save up to buy a quality player if you can.

TOMMYBOI has bypassed the most significant flaw, and good for him, but the tracking force and cheap design of the turntable does indeed wear the records much faster than a good-quality turntable. And the good news there is a 'good quality' turntable starts at around $120, sometimes even less, though you do need a separate amp and speakers.
      I encourage youth to not just get into vinyl, but also to recognize that cheap 'n nasty audio gear is false economy. Spend a LITTLE more and get something far better. Stay well clear of those briefcase things and the equally-terrible 'all in one' setups. They're cheap, disposable garbage.
      Seriously, boys and girls. A realistic starting figure for a good turntable and stereo setup is around $200-250. It buys you a lot. I know $40-70 sounds more appealing, but what it gets you is abysmal in comparison to the real thing. NIGHT AND DAY.

They're literally just to play the record, and it's kind of assumed you have or will buy quality speakers to hook it up to. Millions of people have owned budget record players for years and have not torn up their records. It should be more than fine. Honestly, record players of the '60s often didn't have metal tone arms or dials to adjust them either. You don't need all of that new fancy stuff to enjoy the music or play the record. Sometimes all people want is just an all in one system that can be easily moved around and not very budget breaking. I want to thank you for this video. Let me tell you my story.
    I am a huge audiophile. Last year my girlfriend bought herself a Crosley Cruiser Executive with her birthday money WITHOUT consulting me. A collegae of her told her it was a good record player.
    Anyway, she bought herself some records and the player was skipping, like a lot. She wondered why and I showed her this video.
    Anyway, she bought it for like 130 euro’s. Just now I was able to sell it for 50 euro’s. We are now getting a Audio Technica LP120 so I will be able to play my Pink Floyd - Dark Side of the Moon album on a GOOD record player without worrying this fine record gets damaged. Everything you said about Crosley is 100% correct. If you start collecting and spinning vinyl, do yourself a favor and spend a little more money on a good record player.

    I ended up with a Victrola Raveo (basically, same as a Crosley), I never used the in built speakers and had mine hooked up to a creative intrigue with built in amplifier (they are ok but they aren't even designed for listening to music but to play computer games) and I must say it sounded pretty good.
    After a while (not sure how long it was on use) it stopped working, the place was damp so it might had been due to moisture and not to lack of build quality, so now I am considering buying something better.
    I have to say, I wouldn't buy another Crosley-ish record player but I can't say they sound bad if connected to a proper speaker.

    As kids in the 60's, we had a portable RCA, and the tonearm was a club, compared to what audiophiles require. We put that thing on the floor, with 45's scattered allover. Played them tens of hundreds of times. It never occurred to me to be critical of the sound quality. It was just getting the music to you, someway. Music boxes, aren't hi-fi yet they are still fun to listen to. Car radios sucked back then too, and most home stereo systems from the box stores were crap. Mono transistor radios, etc. Still, for some, that is the experience, and a lot of used records we find now, started out life that way. The Crosley is what it is, and really priced accordingly in 2019 dollars.

    I agree with your assessment. My niece bought one of these when she went to college, and she asked me for a few of my LPs. I sent her some of my dis-used duplicates. These were nice-enough to share, but after a few plays on the Crosley, they became wrecked.
    DISCLAIMER: As her uncle, I told my niece about the proper care of LPs and using correct turntable maintenance in her teenage years. But she bought a Crosley in college because it was "cute". Sadly, it destroyed the LPs.

I played a bit of Master of Puppets and Dark Side of The Moon on it (two songs on each). But then I noticed that you couldn't adjust the counterweight of the tonearm. I decided to weigh it on a scale and it was *9 grams.* Now I'm gonna save up some money and hopefully buy something better... Really hope I didn't damage my records.

Also Could you explain how to get the music to play from the beginning? whenever I pay a Vinyl, it starts the music from about ten seconds into the song. maybe even 30 sometimes.

      Try cleaning stylus or getting a better one. Also try external speakers like edifiers. Once you have those, save up for a better player. The Atlp60 or crosley c3 are much better players and don't cost much. Unfortunately in the native form, the crosley has extremely poor speakers too, which could contribute to muffled sound.
