Hope you’re having an AMAZING DAY! 🌞😊🎄
A couple three years ago, I received a Crosley Peanuts record player. Yeah, it's cheap, around 50 bucks. I recall you said cheap isn't good for vinyls. Luckily, I don't really use it much. I do want to get something better. I have fond memories of as a kid playing vinyls on my family turntable, stuff like Michael Jackson's Thriller, Stryper's To Hell With The Devil, and David Lee Roth's Eat 'Em and Smile, plus story book stuff. I seriously need a good holder for the records!
Yes I am 👍
Yes I am 😊👍
@Vinyl_Eyezz does the audio-technica turntable need any amplifier if i want to connect some small speakers/headphones
I don't know if you would ever consider doing this but I would absolutely love a video that helps people build a vinyl setup on a specific budget. Something that a new collector like me with a limited budget could put together and get pretty great outcomes with. For example your most recommended setup for $500.
This
@@OhanaJohan so let’s say I was to end up getting the LP60X, what else would I need to buy just to play my records out loud? The preamp, amplifier, and speakers? And which ones are good on a budget? What I’m trying to get at is I would like to play my records for cheap and don’t want the turntable to destroy them.
@@willmeier5094 pre-amp is built it, you just need a speaker, could even be a bluetooth one. I used to use a bluetooth speaker with a RCA to 3.5mm adapter since my player didn’t have bluetooth capability.
That’s all you need, you don’t need anything extra.
Just the player, a RCA to 3.5mm adapter (which I think comes with the player) and a speaker that has a 3.5mm input.
@@OhanaJohan I’m gonna soon be getting the LP60XBT version since it’s wireless and I don’t need a lot of wires
@@lauracorbett4577 awesome! Hope you enjoy it!
It's worth noting that the Audio Technica LP60 line *does* use a counterweighting system: it has a spring hidden in the base that holds the tone arm at tension and prevents the stylus from digging too hard into the record grooves,
@SamBowmer Audio Technica makes the best record players and they’re the best brand on the market. Whenever I’m in Barnes And Noble and people come there to buy a record player I advise them to get the Audio Technica Lp60xbt and they take my advice
I call mine Skippy because he skips all the time. Any slight imperfection in the record, and oh boy
I'm planning to start my vinyl collection by 2022 (next year). I've been watching your channel for nearly 3 years now. I've learned a lot from you since then.
Keep it up Jared!

Exciting! Good luck. I’ve been collecting for two years and it’s a lot of fun
thank you. ive been dreaming this since 2019, the year ive started my cassette tapes collection. at that time until now, i dont have the "buying power" to buy vinyls yet.
but soon. when i graduate college and on my first job. well you know what happens :) stay safe
@@emancaindec9731 That’s awesome! Always glad to see more people start collecting :)
how is the vinyl collection going :D
I've had my LP60X since March or so and I love it. Sound wise, I recently upgraded from the AT BT speaker it came with to a Vizio soundbar that I got for my TV, which I use an AUX cord to connect to the sound bar from the record player. It's been real nice so far.
2:20 It will NOT carve up the grooves, just wear them out slightly quicker. Every time you play a record you technically wear it out, tracking force just makes that process a bit faster but it takes around 50-100 plays before you might notice the increase in surface noise (and most of us dont play records that many times). Records were designed to handle up to around 6 grams of tracking force and most Crosleys and similar turntables with the red ceramic Chuo Denshi cartridge track a little bit under 6 grams which is acceptable for the cartridge.
Most second hand records have been played on turntables that tracked much heavier than modern turntables and they sound fine, unless they have scratches of course (or other groove damage from a defective or damaged/worn out stylus)
Thank you for correctly explaining this because I kinda rolled my eyes at that part too. The stylus will last you about 20-30 hours of use before getting to a point where it’s worn enough to damage your records, and even then it’s a slow process that takes numerous listens to cause perceptible wear. They DO technically damage your records as claimed, no need to over-exaggerate.
I’d also say the Cruisers in particular might damage the outer rim of the record as the top doesn’t hinge very far and is prone to rubbing against the vinyl surface. I’d be more concerned about that, especially if your record already has any amount of warp.
I am proud to say that I have gotten into vinyl!! I started this past Christmas with a Sony PS-LX2 from 1981. I think it sounds really good and that vinyl is DEFINITELY worth the hype!!
I hope you're an educator outside of RUclips. Your simplification of things and how you explain things is great. Not everyone has that ability.
Hi, At 02:00, I Have A 'Mixx Tribute Vinyl Record Player', I Got It For Christmas And I Bough A Vinyl For It, Anyway I'm Not Sure How To Make It Work And Now I'm Scared It Will Break The Vinyl, It Does Go Over The Edges Of The Case And The Turntable And The Needle Aren't Stuck In Place, Like Most Of The Whole Thing Lifts Up, It's Been Like That Since I Opened It On Christmas Day, It Also Sounds Like Something Is Loose Underneath It, And There's Meant To Be A Red Light That Turns On, But There's No Signs Of It Being Powered On, But It's Plugged In., /, ??.
Update: It's Working Now, But Other Tips Will Be Appreciated.
Great list especially the C100 shout out. That was my first TT and is still spinning strong for my mother-in-law. She loves it.
Best explanation ever for someone wanting to get into record player
Be careful about taking advice from Y/T "experts", I've got a vintage Miracord which certainly is NOT "trash"

Amused to Death - Roger waters
I love that track. But the whole album is awesome. Awesome videos btw!!
I did not expect to see the OM Record in the background, very cool
The LP60x really isn’t worth it at all, you can get a 1999 cheap aiwa for less then €20 which is just as ‘good’ since it’s got the same exact tonearm
I’ve been buying and playing vinyl for years but always appreciate your videos because I learn new things. A better way to convert vinyl to digital, is use a higher quality A-D/D-A converter. I use a Fluance turntable with a Ortofon 2M Bronze Korg AD/DA converter that converts to high-res digital (as well as DSD) and sounds amazing.
Would you still use the converter if you're using a Denon 4200 receiver?
Hey there. Have you ever given us a room tour? If not I think it's about time!!!!! :)
Despite my being 46 years old; I started out on cassettes and am new to vinyl in my own listening setup. Bought the Audio Technica lp120x, upgraded cork mat. Connected to a Teac headphone amp with a pair of Samson open back headphones. Great sound! I’ve recommended Jarrett’s Channel to newcomers.
In my opinion the best turntable you can purchase for under $600 is a vintage deck with a new quality cartridge and stylus. Although you have to do your research and know what to look for.
Agreed, these Project carbon evo 3 and Rega rp3 at a 1000$ are garbage. You can get a decent Denon TT on the secondhand market for 500$ and that leave you with 500$ for great carthridge.
"...the weight of the needle is too heavy. And it could carve through those record grooves like a hot knife through butter."
Spoken like a true "Audiophile".
Spend 500 bucks and get great sound quality..
Uhh.. i think a $30 mp3 player delivers phenomenal sound quality in comparison
Ha ha ha. I don't even remember what an mp3 file sounds like.
Thank you for all your videos, very helpful! I actually just bought my very first Audio technica LP120X AND Fluance ai41 speakers to go with it thanks to you :) My song suggestion is: The Cure - If Only Tonight We Could Sleep
A well appointed pre amp can have the necessary connections for various equipment too.
If you have a little 3.5mm audio jack on your turntable, you can use a two-way cable to register the turntable a microphone to your PC therefore being able to record and keep the music.
You once said that the plural of "vinyl" is "vinyl". Is that because the word "vinyl" is not a noun, but is an adjective? If you say, "Hand me my new vinyl." that could be a description of one record or of your entire vinyl collection. You can say, "Hand me those 3 tapes." But you can't say, "Hand me those three vinyl." Saying, "Hand me those three vinyls." *would* both sound and BE proper as long as we choose to treat an adjective like a noun. If we give one vinyl record the nickname "vinyl", as we do, then it is indeed correct to say "Please hand me those five vinyls." because it's not a grammatical error if a nickname is involved, which is indeed the case here... IMHO.
Hey Jared. Ho! Ho! Ho! Great advice on choosing a turntable. A very Merry Christmas to you & your family. I hope this Christmas will be very special for all of you.😀

You can add a CD player to a Pre-Amp TT through the New Klispch Active Speakers, with a Tos Link (Fiber Cable). Just set up such a system for a mate of mine. And It sounds great.
I agree with the points you have mentioned! . What are your thoughts on the Audio Technica AT-LP7? I just won it on an Ebay auction for half the retail price !Super stoked about my upgrade. I Had been using the AT-LP60-USB for nearly 10 years which is indeed a great beginner turntable.
None of these sycophants are going to tell you the truth. You'll be underwhelmed and realize the differences are negligible. At least you didn't pay full price.
I absolutely love my LP60X. It's easy to use and sounds pretty good. My motor runs slightly too fast at 33.6-33.7RPM, haven't bothered to correct it yet but should be easy enough. I wish they'd make a LP60X pro with a better build and with the same automatic operation.
They do - the LP2X. I got one literally this week.

Great review mate. After many years of buying turntables, my present unit consists of a Pro-Ject 6 Perspex magnetic suspension turntable fitted with a Hadcock GH 242 unipivot tonearm and a Denon DL 110 high output moving coil cartridge. This combination works very well with arm/cartridge fundamental resonant frequency of 10.5 HZ. Total cost about $ 2,000 AU
😂
I love when fart sniffers waste their money on snake-oil.
Yes, I came to the same conclusion. Went straight to a SOTA Sapphire TT with a Zu/Dl 103R MKII (Denon modified) with an SME tonearm. I have a REGA RP3 TT (1000$) that is simply garbage. Here is a rule of thumb. If your TT weighs less than 20 pounds and the tone arme is so light that you could use it as chopsticks,, you will want an upgrade as soon as money is in your bank account. I also had a Project evo carbone with a grado Gold 3 on loan to test. I would rather listen to CD's instead as I would at least get all the frequencies out of the medium.
nice video, i think im gonna buy the project debut recordmaster ii
The cool thing about the Fluance being all wood and gives better sound is literally the reason why Guitars are made of wood. Some have tried metal guitars or plastic guitars but they don’t sound the same at all. So as a guitarist I like the Fluance, it’s like a turntable take of a guitar
Wait huh? How does wood affect the sound of a vinyl disc?
Confused how the material would effect the sound. Besides vibration and dampening….
I recently took out my Technics sl-qd22 turntable out of the closet after 20+ years. After having to fiddle with the tonearm to get it working correctly, and putting on a new stylus, I listened to a new stereo remastered Beatles white album. Wow, I was blown away at how good it sounded. Now I'm into vinyl again after so many years. I want to get a new turntable and it's between the AT lp140xp or the Fluance rt85. They are the same price and I'm leaning towards the Fluance. I have a Pioneer VSX-406 a/v receiver with phono input with a set of older Alesis monitor one reference speakers that still sound fantastic. I must say that the Technics SL-QD2 runs extremely quiet so I'll keep it in my computer/home studio room and put the new turntable in my family room where I currently have a 5.1 surround setup.
Love the LP-120x. The direct drive is quiet too.
F.Y.I.I have a Dual 1218 turntable I got 50 years agoand still use daily. It sounds beautiful, much better than an Audio Technicaand the platter is only 10.75 " and LPs hang .75" and it's no toy. Also not belt drive or direct drive.
This might sound odd, but I've found that the type of shelves you have, not just their colour has an impact.
A lot of newer IKEA-esque, ie flatpack, shelves are at best 12" or so deep, so when I upgraded from a cheaper turntable (not Crosley thank God), the new one wouldn't fit on my shelf.
It has a lid so I have to pull it out almost 2" over the edge so I can lift the lid to play anything.
Oh my goodness Jarrett!!! You granted my request for an updated list of your top recommended turntables!!! 😍
@TheThriftyFawn Go with Audio Technica Lp60xbt
@@lauracorbett4577 can you explain the difference for me? I barely know anything about them
@@ericawu6577 the Audio Technica Lp60x and LP60XBT has a flat platter which records are meant to be placed on and they produce better sound quality because of the built in amplifier when you hook it up to speakers but Crosleys and Victrolas and all in one record players are trash because their counterweight is too heavy cuz of the small circle in the middle and the counterweight makes the record look like something’s moving underneath it and that means your record is being warped and the sound quality is not good because of the built in speakers which makes it sound like not the actual singer but sound like weird. Watch Jarret New’s video called Don’t Buy Crosley Cruiser Record Players and he’ll tell you all about it
@@lauracorbett4577 Ohh thank you, which do you recommend to purchase? The lp60x or lp60xbt some say the non Bluetooth version has better sound quality than the Bluetooth one
@@ericawu6577 I recommend the Lp60xbt because all you need to do is pair it with a Bluetooth speaker and you don’t have to worry about a lot of wires. Or you could get a old turntable from a garage sale too
I'm not sure if that is a good idea to recommend to his target audience. There used to be terrific buys of turntables from garage sales, etc., but they are getting harder to find. Also, just like with new turntables, there was a huge range of quality in vintage turntables, including a lot of junk. That means first of all you need to know what to look for. Then, you need to know how to evaluate a potential turntable to know what if any repairs or adjustments need to be made and how much it will cost. For some, repair parts may not be available.
@@dougmacmillan1712 Agreed on the audience here, however, there are enough forums around to have a good idea of where to start. I had a Rega rp3 and a Project EVO Carbon on a loan recently and they both made me miss the mp3 format. Ha ha ha a piece of presswood with a 12v motor, a tonearm the weight of chopsticks, an othophone RED for a 1000$ WTF? You could get a secondhand Sota or Denon for that price.
8:11 I'd argue that you don't necessarily need a USB model. You could take the audio outs and plug into an audio interface connected to your PC and record that way. The USB feature is convenient, but not needed (:
Hello, I'm wondering if you could make a video on speakers. Cause I'm building my set up in an old record console table and I need to find good speakers so I was wondering if you have any to recommend
Regarding auto-stop; if your player doesn't have that function you can put a power plug with an countdown timer between it. I use that to switch the power off automatically after a certain time. So if if I would forgot too switch the player off it will stop in a reasonable time.
Jerrod, bashing Crosley Cruiser style turntables is all well and good, but not realistic. I think, for someone who just wants to give it a try before becoming serious, they are an excellent budget way to get started. The if they decide to get serious moving forward, then they can spend $150 or more to up their game. If they decide its not for them, they are only out their $50 and they can move on.
If one wants to decide if he / she likes pizza, I find it to be right when somebody points them to a pizza delivery chain instead of recommending a frozen pizza. I don't believe that a Crosley Cruiser would do justice to a record, but an AT LP60X would. The same for frozen pizza vs delivery chain vs Italian restaurant.
Hello, the problem is that you might get better sound quality from an mp3 than a Crosley which brings us to the question,, why spend money on records if you can't get the Hifi sound out of them? Playing records is all fine and great but at 30$ a pop for a re-issues or 100$-1000$ for secondhand harder to find records from the 30's-80's and not getting the most out of them is counter productive. You might as well download Hi-Res files and play them through a decent DAC on your pc. Here is where the problem lies, A decent DAC will run you over 500$ so you might as well stick with mp3 files with Ipods and you will still get a better quality sound than from a Crosley.
There is no shortcut to sound quality. Now, if you just want to play records for the sake of playing records while having a glass of bourbon doing so, then, a Crosley might be for you.
i have officially been watching Vinyl Eyezz for a year now.
Thank you for watching! 😊
I have a Technics SL1300
I love this turntable.
I use a complete rega set up .the p6 ania combo is about £1400 but is an amazing turntable/cartridge set up. Music wise I thought long and hard about this but deep purple with pictures of home from machine head would be amazing
Good video! I would add that Hanpin Turntables make the Lp60x, lp120xusb, and several of the mid range Crosleys such as the C100, C200 (dd). The Crosley C6 and C8 are excellent as well. And for folks who like the Pro-ject Debut Carbon, the Pro-ject made Crosley C10 might be a more affordable option (it’s identical.) lastly I would say that there are several good portables with magnetic cartridges out there and in my opinion portables have historically been and continue to be an important part of vinyl record enjoyment.
I was hoping you would at least mention vintage players as an option because that was the time when the market was the most competitive, and companies produced some of the best and most unique players out there. right now the competitiveness of the turn table industry has just reset and kinda plateaued

I just bought a nice secondhand record player for a really good price. It’s a 2009 audio Technica, but I just ran into a problem where the belt came detached. Is there an easy way for somebody who is blind to figure out how to remove the platter and reattach it?
Shout out to the AT-LP3! Added an acrylic platter mat, and an elliptical stylus upgrade. It sings :)

what album is that in the back with the yellow background and jesus drawn on it?
That’s John the Baptist I believe, and it’s the doom rock album: OM - Advaitic Songs.
I’m convinced that it’s the versatility of really good quality speakers that should be foremost in any setup. My setup includes a Sony PSLX310BT belt drive turntable, a decent quality Sony BluRay player (for cd’s, dvd’s and BluRay discs) and a Philips 4K UHD television all connected into excellent, very versatile Edifier S1000MkII active speakers. I can link my turntable to the speakers via BlueTooth if I wish but instead I’ve chosen to use the RCA. My BlueRay connects up to the speakers with a standard A/V coaxial cable and the TV is connected to the speakers via an optical/toslink cable. It all works great and sounds fantastic. I still have another spare RCA input on the speakers if I want and though I’m not a gamer, I can if I ever want to, connect a gaming console. Like I said, begin with good quality speakers and it will all work out perfectly for anybody.
You’re not completely wrong, quality speakers make a huuge noticeable difference 100% of the time

Today I was at Barnes And Noble in the mall and hanging out at in the music section and two people came in and said they were looking into gettin a new record player and the store had three Audio Technica LP60XBTS and I recommended it to them
That was very nice of you to steer them in the right direction! I bet they appreciated that!
@@vinyleyezz A lot of people have taken my advice and I told them about you and your video about 5 Reasons to not buy a Crosley
I have my turntable connected to my computer without using a USB cable. My Amp ( JVC JS-S22) has "Tape Out" RCA connectors. I use a cable that has RCA plugs on one in and the little headphone type plug on the other. On my older Mac there is an input, and output, with the little headphone type plug. I also use Aucacity to clean up the songs before burning them on a CD, or adding them to my iTunes playlist.
I would recommend the Crosley C-100 it’s very similar to the Audio Technica LP-120
with Sony PS-HX500 You can rip your vinyl records to 24 bit or DSD. several other usb turntables only support 16 bit. otherwise, for example, there is a preamp to buy that also supports 24 bit
I had some very top notch gear in the late 70's and a decent collection of music. then with CD's, turntable became practically obsolete and the only close thing to playing records were those crossly and alike.
Now it has become something more to show off rather than enjoy.
I've seen those vinyl collectors checking out a disc with a jewelers loupe and lighting comparing them to other records they own and complaining about the quality. It seemed to have turned into a snobbery like the wine drinkers or cigar smokers.
I've also seen turntables that cost 8 or 9 thousand dollars. in the end it is still a stylus on a rotating platter.
I still have the same records my father used to play on Sunday mornings. And if the did not pop and crackle, or skip on the same spot. it would not feel like home.
dont...get a cd player instead. just got a used rotel cd14 for $205. its awesome. plus cd's are 1/10 the price of records which are just digital sources pressed into vinyl today anyways. cant believe people are still buying into this fad....
Hi, new subscriber, great channel really enjoying the content, I currently have a Lenco turntable and very happy with it, looking forward to seeing a lot more of your videos, watching from Shropshire England 👍
Lots of wrong information..
“If it has phono inputs then it has a preamp”
Wrong. If your turntable isn’t properly RIAA preamped then you won’t get far with those phono jacks
In my experience, I used a direct-drive A-T 120 USB turntable, and I could hear the motor "cogging". "Cogging" is when the motor pulses itself to maintain speed. I eventually resolved this by adding a heavy disc stabilizer (an AT816). By adding the mass, it helped to maintain the angular momentum. This, in turn, meant that the DD motor didn't have to pulse as much.
Nevertheless, I moved up to a Fluance RT85 because it was belt-driven, and it included an Ortofon Blue cartridge.
Your DD probably wasn’t quartz-locked. That shouldn’t have happened. Peace.
I've watched alot of your videos and not one mention of one of the best turntables of all time . The Technics-sl1200 mk2. I have a pair for djing and they are built like tanks and are really solid
I think his target audience is aiming lower than Technics. I actually spin 3, the SL-1500 MKII (similar to the 1200), the SP-15 and SP-25 broadcast turntables.
@@dougmacmillan1712 how can you mix on those? They don't have a pitch fader so i guess you'd have to keep your finger on the record. props to you though that takes real skill
@@callumcowell3187 I don't mix. These are in my home office and I use them for listening. I also restore my 78s and feed the USB signal from my preamp to my computer, where I use restoration software.
1210mkll all day I almost tell people dont buy junk save up and get u a pair of MKll (the old one) and u set for a lifetime don't waste ur hard erned money
Jarrett, since you've been talking in favor of USB connections a lot, what are your thoughts on recording vinyl through a P2-P2 cable (receiver line-out to PC soundboard)?
Thank you for this video! Great help for me :)
Unpopular approach I wasn’t able to get an lp60x as they were all sold out for Christmas and I didn’t have quite the money to get a bunch of gifts AND get a fluance rt81/82, I got a crosley c6b for the same price as the lp60x - it has a counterweight and same cartridge as lp60x but cartridge can actually be upgraded as long as the anti skate of around 3g is adequate for new carts. As long as it doesn’t die on me it should be good for a starting turntable as well.

my turntable cost 100$ and it sounds great!
