Great reviews. I love Genesis, bought one of the first 2022 GV70 3.5 Sport Prestige's back in November 2021 and two years later I have zero regrets. Not a fan of throwing everything on screens, prefer separate climate and audio controls, Genesis does a pretty good balance with their tech designs. The GV80 coupe is beautiful......
The GV80 coupe is one of the few coupe SUV versions I like. and yes, this colour and more black less chrome grill match the style. I like it. I just doubt we will ever see it in the UK as GV70 is already 'big' ;)
The trend of OLED screens in cars is definitely one that worries me and is one more way of reducing longevity unless OLED life expectancy has vastly improved.
I know Cadillac was the first to bring such a level of technology to market and execute it the way they have, they worked hard with LG to mitigate burn-in for their first ever P-OLED Digital Cockpit Solution display that’s in the new Escalade. Cadillac calls them “intelligent algorithms”. It apparently was very expensive to build and there was even talk of the 38-inch curved OLED display being available only in the top trim models before they decided to make it standard at every Escalade trim level including the base Luxury trim. LG’s advanced software is Automotive Safety Integrity Level (ASIL) compliant and meets the ISO’s international standard for the functional safety of road vehicles. Long story short, burn-in won’t be an issue for a very long time when you invest enough and don’t go the cheap route. Not sure who sourced this one for genesis though.
@@G-RatedOLEDs will inevitable get burn in. it's linear and cumulative as long as the screen is on. Some iphone's are showing burn in and phones are best case since users will switch apps / use different content usually whereas the car will always be displaying the UI / carplay / android auto etc amongst other things like the sun beaming down on the OLED screen or frigid cold temperatures etc
@@chibbyylol Cadillac uses a algorithm to monitor the internal temperatures of their displays specifically to mitigate burn-in. Then they have a Display Optimization Calibration process that will be presented to the driver from time to time when the display is ready, which can shift the layout of the screen by a few pixels to keep the same ones from displaying similar colors for too long. Not something our natural eyes would ever pick up, but these are expensive mitigation strategies to prevent burn-in for longer than just a little while. Definitely not the cheap route to go. I’m interested to know how Genesis is able to offer this level of technology and what their prices are.
I've had enough burn-in problems with phones to be wary, but I suspect they've worked very hard to minimize this. In a few years we'll have different kinds of displays without that problem, and I kind of wish we'd just stay with LCDs until then - for cars, at least. It isn't as if the displays need to have super bright colors. I suppose the excellent black levels of OLEDs is the attractive feature. At night many LCDs look poor.
Mr. Alex you are in my opinion the very best of all in the arena of 'online auto reviewers'. Please be aware of the over use of saying 'here' & 'there' when describing the vehicles. May I suggest a review of the ' The Genesis Coupe Is Back! (As an SUV this time) 2025 Genesis GV80 and GV80 Coupe First Look video'. Your auto reviews have always been above reproach. Please keep them coming into the New Year. Cheers!
I think the car is spectacularly gorgeous but I do have one complaint though. The one change I would make is the massive screen in the dashboard. I would go with 2 separate screens, rather than that long, never ending screen. Other than that, it’s a perfect car for me.
I really like the coupe, gorgeous and right up there with the Germans in terms of style. I almost wish they would have stuck with the 2 separate screen design, everyone has been moving over to that so heavily that it almost just makes the dash look just like everyone else. If you're this late in the trend then you may as well just stick with it. Hell Mercedes has been doing it for so long that they're actually switching back to multiple screens lol.
Why does every manufacturer is doing the double screen thing? Merc did it first and as soon as they depart from the design (albeit flat not curved), everyone's doing it.
Are you f'ing kidding me. We've been waiting like 8 years for a new genesis coupe and they give us a freaking suv?? Great, because we already dont have like a thousand of those on the road... I'm sure a 2 door SUV will sell like hotcakes, considering the main reason people buy suv's is family practicality! What a stupid idea. The gensis coupe was pretty much the first time hyundai started actually getting some street cred, and making a name for themselves. And yet they throw it away, then give it the ford mustang mach E treatment.
I like the grill up front but I wonder if manufacturers ever make their designers wash a prototype design because all those diamonds would be a royal pain to get the corners clean.
I wish Genesis had left the 2 screen setup, while this looks good it just looks like very basic, it’s similar to how the Palisade and Telluride look on the inside. IMO having 2 separate screens just looks better cos it takes more effort to design, there’s more “thought” into it, I feel just slapping a giant slab of screen looks “techy” but also feels like a cop out or the easy way out to design an interior
Coupe is so popular many models are ending, very late to the fad. Happy to see buttons though, never thought I’d have to see if there’s going to be buttons when making a purchase decision
Im getting tired of car dashes turning into Apple display stores. Literally sitting infront of a table with a plane tablet infront of you. I don't mind digital displays but at least put it inside of a unique gauge cluster cover. Something that exudes performance, speed, and grand touring. Not barnes and noble.
This is exactly why manufacturers like *gm* are investing into their own built in UX and joining forces with Google to bump up the software and *ridding* their vehicles of Apple CarPlay altogether instead of _relying_ on Apple CarPlay to make the best user experience for their customers and having to incorporate Apple’s technology into every new design and share their data with a competitor.

Literally, coupé means "cut". They were originally shortened versions of sedans. This is a crossover with a chopped down roof. I wish they weren't called "SUV coupes", but don't blame Genesis, as that name was applied a good fifteen years ago to the BMW X6, the first of this body style. All the German luxury makes have multiple crossovers in this class.
OLEDs are glossy and iirc don't get super bright. Without shade, that seems a very poor choice for a car. I also don't care for the "one big screen" look. Not a fan of coupes, but I play hockey so I need cargo capacity.
They don't get super bright, but they have excellent black levels, so look brighter than they are. They'll be fine for this application. How glossy they are just has to do with the specific cover glass, and is no different from an LCD. All displays get washed out in direct sunlight to some extent, but the sun would have to be coming in at a very specific angle to hit the display.
This is not a coupe. Your definition for coupe doesn’t exist. There is only one true genesis coupe. I’ve owned 3 and still own one.
