This podcast was an odyssey.
Truthfully, I’m not their target demographic, I don’t watch anime, I don’t follow any of the hosts and only found this podcast by chance because of their NileRed episode. But I was spellbound by Aleks’ story, he told it so beautifully it genuinely made me emotional, cheering for his first success in LA, flabbergasted at his uni exam results, and heartbroken at the thought of a 14 year old kid being essentially abandoned in another country to fend for himself but ends up finding purpose and joy despite his circumstances.
I hope he finds the peace and contentment he’s looking for. For someone who grew up on unstable ground without support from parental figures to pursuing a career in such a volatile industry as entertainment and actually finding success - he deserves to take a moment to catch his breath.
Don't worry, this podcast talk about anything except anime
Seriously, he should write a memoir. I'm pretty sure his story would have universal appeal, not just within the anime community.
Oh nah don't worry we're not their target demographic either lmao since this podcast discusses every topic except for anime
Why don’t you watch anime?
Seriously it was such a good episode. So inspiring

this ain't a podcast episode, this is an audio book. I feel like i'm getting a movie told. 😂
Aleks Le is definitely the biggest name of all the new gen VAs of the 2020s so it’s funny how his story is literally an anime protagonist
I knew when he said he was going to Japan they’d bring him on for an episode. Really glad to see him. Probably one of my favorite current English VAs. Very talented
We were barely able to make it work bc of our schedules but I’m so glad we did it!
Wait I don’t know much about English dub cuz I don’t speak English well so this voice actor is usually in California dubbing for some licensers like Sentai filmworks and some streaming platforms like Crunchyroll and he went to Japan for a trip or something at least three weeks ago (cuz Conner is now on cyclethon for two weeks) and did this recording?
@@AleksLe It was great to hear about the man behind all these characters, best regards for your future endeavors.
@@ryana5435 i assume this is when he went to Japan for the Demon Slayer event.
def my fav rn. got me tappin into dubs fr
I 100% agree with Aleks on Zenitsu. Zenitsu is one of my favorite characters ever. His ability to admit his fear and wanting to run away, and his will to stay and fight despite it, IS what makes him brave and so relatable. It really does make him seem more "human" in a way the other characters don't.
facts
Usually, i only watch Trash Taste while i'm eating, 30 minutes at max. But for this episode, i watched it straight from the start until the end without pause because of how interesting, funny, and inspirational the conversation is. I have respect for Aleks Le for the grind and struggle he did to get where he is right now. He did anything necessary and putting everything on the line.
But, what really hits me is something that he said. This is not the exact wording but he was saying along these lines, "i don't want to just sit and watching the life goes on, the time just fly away." I didn't come from a family that suffers poverty, nor a family who is rich enough. Sometimes i feel like i'm not trying hard enough at everything i do, because i have backups if i fail. Family will help me financially, that is what i always think. So, all this time i am someone that contradicts Aleks Le's person: wasting his life away, don't care whatever happens, i will do what i like, never thinking what will happen to me becaause i have emergency escape plan through my family.
Watching this episode got me thinking, maybe i must not let opportunities that i have now slide away easily. I must change to be a better person, appreciating everything better, doing harder grind, and not letting the days waste away easily.
Thank you for inviting Aleks to the Trash Taste Podcast. Cheers to you guys 🎉
omg i really felt this! this honestly ended up being one of my fav trash taste ep despite me not knowing who this guy was and i can’t remember the last dub i’ve watched. like i was so invested😭

I hope we see more of him on trash taste again.
Well, we know one of em is Pete (PremierTwo).. And Aleks Le is another one.. So, who's the other one in the Top 3..?

Everything Aleks says about his upcoming and how things came to be are all like make it or break it moments and holy shit I can’t stop smiling when he said he succeeded or something worked out in his favor along with other finer details.
In a way he really is the main character and I agree his life could really be a movie or a short film.
it would get bad reviews for being unrealistic, Mary Sue
@@averagejoey2000 thank goodnes the manga is goated
For anyone wondering, The Laws of the Universe Part 1 (2018) was his first role and he played Dahar an evil alien.
That freaking movie was marketed back then that have a star studded cast of great VAs. I watched it solely for that. And was oblivious it was a a Happy Science anime mythology for their cult.
Granted I immediately forgot all about that movie until Mother's Basement made a video about it then for some reason when he was summarizing the story it felt as though that I had watched the movie.
Until at some point I rembered I did watched it and kept laughing I unknowingly watched a Happy Science Anime
Aha! I knew it! When he mentioned the cast list, I immediately got flashbacks to Mother’s Basement!
No wonder he didn’t want to talk about that gig much. Probably not one of his proudest moments having voiced in a cult-propaganda film.
At 16:20 - Garnt's experience of being invisible in high school is common among second-gen Asians. I think Asian immigrant parents are completely ignorant in knowing that yes, your children might be educationally/financially advantaged compared to you but there's a huge social handicap in just not being able to blend in and don't be surprised if your kid is a loner or very shy.
This intense striving for all this 'American/Western Dream' stuff when you can't *fully* assimilate makes the striving kind of redundant. Immigrant parents should want financial and *social* success for their kids, just my two cents.
And in a lot of cases the social is the most important of all (especially since it can help with networking)!
This is why we should tighten the borders and avoid letting them in
Assimilation kinda has a meaning of “abandon your minority’s identity and culture to resemble majority group’s values, behaviors, beliefs”. It’s better to use “acculturation” or “integration”
His scream on the awakening scene of Persona 3 Reload got me hyped af, I think recently Aleks is blowing up in popularity and I'd say it's totally deserved
Edit: Currently of the edit of this comment, Aleks is live on twitch rn joined with Fuuka's VA Suzie Yeung!

I quite resonate with Aleks story. Not even remotely the same industry, but after spending so much to study overseas and wasting so much time trying to find a job, I finally am getting a close to my dream in working and living in Australia. Already rewatching this episode because it is definitely one of the best Trash Taste episodes! I‘m grateful to hear this inspiring story. I think it is amazing of him to be so honest about his past wrongdoings caused by being simply human in unfortunate situations and a hard industry. I‘m sad to see some people in the comments label him as a bad person because of these things… (and if you have never been in a situation so dire you had to lie you must be very privileged tbh.) It‘s respectable and inspiring how he is open about imperfections yet he‘s impressive and funny! Also respect to him for being good at telling stories. It must not be easy to condense such a long story into like an hour. Also, I‘m sure everyone is saying this already so sorry for being unoriginal but he‘s got no reason to be insecure about his smile, his smile is super cute!
If anyone's wondering, after some googling I believe Aleks's first role was "Laws of the Universe Part 1".
Tom Kenny, Yuri Lowenthal, Josh Keaton are all in it, and he plays a villain named Dahar.
