P0440 is likely connected to a fuel vapor leak. Start with the simple. Check all the hoses around the leak detection pump. Mainly between the charcoal canister and leak detection pump. Definitely want to check your gas cap seal.
I try to keep the videos simple as possible and hopefully answer most questions during the repair. If you have not subscribed please do so. As the weather breaks I’ll have more videos.
Thank you for the video.....it is not a pump...it uses natural vacuum to monitor the system.....the true name is NVLD....natural vacuum leak detection.....the earlier versions were true pumps and required a vacuum hose from the engine to run the pump
Thanks for your comment and I would 100% agree that it is not a pump but for the ease of search for the part, the description “Fuel Vapor Leak Detection Pump #310-500” is absolutely correct. The P0441 code is set when the PCM does not detect a purge flow. Before changing anything I would check leaks between the purge valve solenoid and the leak detection pump. Hey Mark. Thanks for checking out the video. You mentioned changing parts but didn’t mention if you checked the actual lines vacuum which p1494 and intermittent check engine light would be a symptom indicator. If you have not, trace starting with the intake to the LDP then the LDP to charcoal canister. You also should have a few other lines. Find the start and end of each. Cap 1 end and apply no more than 15 inches of vacuum to the other end. Check all elbows as well. I hope that helps and if you haven’t subscribed please do.
Hey Mark.... If you are referring to the hose going to the filter I believe it is no longer available. I used same hose that goes between the LDP and the canister. Cut the end off to get the U shape to the filter. The I.D. is the same on both hoses. I added a link in my description.

Thanks for watching. Because of ease of access to the leak detection pump I have always tested them on the vehicle and for several other reasons as well. This works best for me because I don’t have all the fancy tools and there are several tests being done at the same time. 1. You are checking the audible click in the solenoid.... 2. @@TRRehab I have a 2003 Dakota that is giving me Codes. Usually its the PO442 but occasionally its an O2 sensor code. Checking all of the lines for leaks. Is it possible that my thermostat is contributing to this problem? Last winter on a coup[le of VERY cold nights it seemed like my thermostat was getting stuck (probably in the OPEN position. Do you think (now that its warmer) that could be fouling things up? BTW great camera work and detailed explanations of the work. Thanks again.
@@scottdreher8122 Your thermostat shouldn’t have anything to do with p0442. This code is a small evap leak. The 2003 Dodge Dakota and the Ram 1500 are very similar. Check out my purge valve solenoid video. Most of the time it’s something simple as a bad gas cap seal. Your check engine light will often go in and out but check out my purge valve solenoid video, I think you will find it useful. Make sure you check the line between the purge valve and the leak detection pump. If that line runs close to your exhaust as I have found before. There could be a small leak created by the exhaust. Much success!
@@TRRehab Thank you sir!> Sounds like a good plan. I will certainly check out that other video. The reason I questioned the thermostat is that it will start fine...run for a few minutes...then start to run rough. If I revv the engine slightly to get the temp up to running temp it levels off again and runs fine. MUCH appreciated. Great channel you have here!
I have a 03 2500 5.7 hemi when the truck is running you can here it clicking kind of fast does that mean I have a leak some where great video by the way very informative
If you are hearing a consistent clicking from the leak detection pump your solenoid inside is most likely defective. Thanks for watching. Unfortunately I haven’t worked on the Toyota evap. You should have a 10 pin connector with 7 pins in use. 2 for the vent solenoid, 2 for pump and 3 for fuel tank pressure. I have a wiring diagram that may help if you want me to email it to you.
My leak detection pump vibrates and sounds like a 3 second long fart when ever I shut the 05 Liberty 3.7L off. Yes that's right a fart. I am going to try your method the see if the pump is good.
I looked at a few, when I took the canister out, the fatter ones, mostly? I also checked the lines under the hood, which is where my purge valve is? Up next to the radiator. Looks like I'll have to dig a little deeper? Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
The MIL light hasn't come on in a week or so? When it does, I get p1494 code, I clear it, and the same thing happens? Another note, the engine light, only comes on, with a cold start?
The pump is located under your 2002 Dodge Ram 1500-4wd-regular-cab-swb, towards the left side. 1st thing to check would be wiring for shorts. If no bad wires change pump. It should be less than $100. 3rd could be a default in the ECM. I've never worked on a 02 Ram but I had a ecm rebuilt for a 03 for I believe $400 but that was a few years ago. If you need the ECM rebuilt siaelec.com Phone: (800) 737-0915 is who I used. Took 2 weeks and is still running. Hope that helps. It that subscribe and notification bell if this was useful.
@@TRRehab There's two short hoses that come off the LDP, one to the canister, and the other, I believe goes to the vent valve? Theres 2 hoses that come off the vent valve, I'm pretty sure? Then the bottom is open. Then I have a hose that is long? The canister, and the LDP, ARE basically on the passenger side, tucked up next to the gas tank? There's a long hose that runs from the charcoal canister, over the gas tank, to a canister, with a small filter in it, that I can't find anywhere, too? That basically runs to the drivers side? I'd like to replace all of them, its original equipment, it looks to me? I took the filter out of the canister, and cleaned it, the best I could, but I need new, the local dealer says discontinued? IDK?
@@TRRehab I think that using puncture probes through the insulation is safer than back-probing and avoiding back-probing two or more together, especially with T-PINS. Insulated straight pins are safer, but I avoid back probing myself and I use the puncture pins and then apply some clear nail polish over the puncture afterward to prevent corrosion later.
Wow, block heater! Fingers get cold just thinking about it. I’m in Georgia so luckily we rarely get below 25 degrees. No block heater here. I hope you have a timer for that block heater. Very informative and I truly enjoyed your video and I'm going to change the one under the hood as well , keep up the good work, also , I have a valve seal leak , have you ever dealt with them ? If so please reply to me the dodge dealer wants to charge 1800 dollars, but if I can figure out how to do it , I will I am mechanical inclined and can do it I just need to figure out how to do it and how to tell which one is leaking , thanks
I don't have a video but here is something that looks pretty easy. ruclips.net/video/hA2_xlocDps/видео.html
Great stuff! very helpful
Thanks Scott for watching. I have 2 Ram trucks so as I do repairs I will be recording them. I hope they are as useful and I really appreciate you subscribing.
@@TRRehab Thank you sir!>
Sounds like a good plan.
Unplug it as shown in the video and test continuity first and then check for the sound when applying a 12 volt source. Hold the power for no more than 2 seconds and you should only hear the plunger open and close. Please subscribe if you have not.
Thank you I will have to try that. It clicked for about 5 min straight today just sitting in the drive way idling shut truck off for about an HR started the truck back up an it was only clicking every now an then it's loud enough if you are standing by the truck it will make you turn your head like what the heck it that noise I have video of it if there is a place I can send it to you
@@randyjr00021 upload it on RUclips. But if you are hearing consistent clicking from the pump. Unplug it and plug it back up. Could be a connection. All of which I went through in the video.
Upload it to RUclips
I just uploaded it
Great video buddy
Hey thanks Canelo for watching. Let me know if there are any other videos you would like to see and I’ll see what I can come up with. Please subscribe if you have not.
That was a great video, i have the same problem on my 2015 toyoto corolla. Can u tell me when u had the pump off, did u check the pins for continiuaty and for ohms to see what it read? My pump has 7 wires going to it and im trying to figure mine out. Thanks
Was u still going to send me the Toyota wiring diagram)
@@comanchejr921 Yes. I need an email

Thank u so much.
My leak detection pump vibrates and sounds like a 3 second long fart when ever I shut the 05 Liberty 3.7L off. Yes that's right a fart. I am going to try your method the see if the pump is good.
Let me know how it turns out? This test should work for your vehicle as well.
The vapor canister vent valve, I replaced too, when I said the T looking thing?
I looked at a few, when I took the canister out, the fatter ones, mostly? I also checked the lines under the hood, which is where my purge valve is? Up next to the radiator. Looks like I'll have to dig a little deeper? Thanks for the info. Much appreciated.
The MIL light hasn't come on in a week or so? When it does, I get p1494 code, I clear it, and the same thing happens? Another note, the engine light, only comes on, with a cold start?
Is the pump on the bottom of the truck or top?
Can I ask, where do you get those formed bigger hoses? If I'm under there, I'd like to replace them? My car is 20 years old, so I'd might as well?
I’m not sure if the 2003 Ram LDP hose will work on a 2000 Concord. W
What’s the year, make and model and the exact part you are looking for?
IDK?
@@TRRehab The vehicle is a 2000 Chrysler Concorde LXI 3.2, manufactured in Canada, I just found out, on the door jam sticker.
THANK YOU!!!!!!
I hope this helped you out and thank you for watching. Please subscribe if you have not.
If you touch those other probes you will fry the transistor in the ECM PCM ETC
Thanks very likely. I would suggest unplugging the wire connection if you aren’t sure
Evap purge solenoid and vacuum pump
I have 2002 dodge ram 1500 5.9L and my code says p1495
I thought I answered this.... Sorry for the delay. Check for electrical shorts. If no shorts it could be you PCM
My 04 Laramie crew cab has it also plus I've got a block heater on my truck. Originally from Canada
Wow, block heater! Fingers get cold just thinking about it. I’m in Georgia so luckily we rarely get below 25 degrees. No block heater here. I hope you have a timer for that block heater. Could save you on power bill as well as premature failure.
My 2004 Ram SRT10 has a totally different leak detection pump then my 2003 Ram 1500 5.7
@@TRRehab I'm in Ohio the truck is originally from Canada. I've lived in Ohio all my life
@@roberthanning7044 The truck being from Canada would explain the block heater. Gets pretty cold in Ohio too. Not too bad here. I’ve been loosing air all winter from my rear shocks so more than likely my next video will be checking the air lines and hoping the shocks aren’t damaged. The truck is always level so I’m hoping something as simple as replacing the hoses.
@@TRRehab I just bought rancho 9 way adjustable shocks for.my.truck. $700.00 for all 4 but excellent ride
I have a 2003, with code p o 440
I can’t believe you replaced it with a dorman part.
That should last a week maybe.
Nice diagnosis though
Dorman parts are good if not better in some cases over oem.
@@rhurtadorh32 can you name a part and situation?
@@mikesabin8568 🤦♂️you gonna learn today. On them buick enclave gmc acadia chevy traverse have those heater hose with the t connectors made out of plastic where dorman came with the exact part but instead of plastic there aluminum t connectors, so they wont break and over heat your engine. On them 3.6 pennastar engines i belive dodge cars their engine cooler or housing goes bad because again oem made them out of plastic and dorman has a upgraded version of aluminum housing. And also dodge computers seems to accept dorman sensors as it wont accept autozone sensors. I know i have a 05 magnum rt
@@rhurtadorh32 ok, well im totally convinced… you should put nothing but dorman temp door actuators on cars and see how that turns out for ya
its a 20 dollar part easier to change it than check it.
So you change out the just $20 part and the check engine light comes back on with the same code? You just threw $20 in the trash and you still can’t get your vehicle to pass emissions. If that works for you 👍🏽. Personally, I like to know the “why”. That’s worth far more than $20.
Thanks for watching
@@TRRehab it's not $20, it's $40
@@jlrockafella Thanks for the comments. You are correct. The part at most brick and mortar stores vary from $30 plus and as high as $60 plus. To have it diagnosed at a shop and replaced as high as $300. It is a lot easier to simply change the part but for me personally, “not a mechanic” .... just feels good that I not only solved the problem but that I actually have a better understanding of why. I’m not trying to teach in as much as encourage people like myself who are not so mechanically inclined.
Next time test wirh ground wire not positive wire
You are correct 👍🏽
My 2001 Chrysler 300m has the same BS set up.
Dodge was kinda all over the place with this system..... Gonna be posting a video of trouble shooting heater core. Thanks for watching and please subscribe.
Be blessed
Part is only $40
