X3nonEyez Yes, because we all know that if it is infused with anything hardcore punk related, it is never metal. It's like saying Chicago isn't a rock band because they're jazz influenced, or saying that Discharge isn't a punk band because they use heavy-metal influences.

Agalloch!! Very pleasantly surprised by their induction on this list! Marrow Of The Spirit is a brilliant, multi-faceted album! Pure atmosphere. Also. kudos for Enslaved. One of the best right now!

I would have compiled a different list, but man, I gotta give it to you, you really know what you're talking about. I love reviewing music and I love hearing other people review music if they have a good argument and information to back their argument. It's refreshing to hear somebody else do it well, especially someone on the internet hahaha. But no seriously, another great review man, keep em coming.
not in order Feared The Haunted Cannibal Corpse Ghost Pantera (I know they aren't current but cmon they are awesome) Slayer (They might be considered overrated but Reign In Blood has a place in my heart) Thy Art Is Murder Slipknot Megadeth Lamb Of God
I think Devin Townsend should be on the list. He's done a number of amazing albums which all are still kinda unique. He has his personal style that has affected a lot of bands but still nobody really has been able to copy him (like there are many Dream theater or Meshuggah replicas nowadays). And also the succesfull variety of different genres makes him especial. I don't think any other musician who has as variyng discography has as loyal fanbase as Devin.

I remember seeing Mastadon back in the day several times at Castle Heights in Queens (big hardcore venue in the 90's), in back of bar. Had no idea they would become so big.

Mastodon (let's hope new album doesn't lack in balls Gojira Meshuggah Memphis May Fire Megadeth Tool (I'll include them since they're currently working on a new album) Alter Bridge (you could make the argument they aren't metal, but they've got balls and if Steel Panther is metal so is AB) Lamb of God (generic pick? Maybe, but they're consistently very solid) Idk how many that is, but whatever.
stumbled upon your vid cause I'm trying to get back into metal. lost taste for it after listening to a lot of deathcore. I started out with black metal and death metal bands like cannibal corpse, nile, dimmu..... holy shit on that new opeth album man your totally right. seems like I have alot to catch up on. Thanks for making this
Good list, and props for Agalloch and Cannibal Corpse, but I would also add Converge, Meshuggah, and Gojira. All are more relatively modern bands that have a back catalog that are worth looking into.
Tried to put them in order, but I've heard a lot of bands and may be hard to remember some:1) Lamb of God2) Gojira3) Devildriver4) Intractable5) Pantera6) Machinehead7) Sikth8) Mushroomhead9) Slipknot10) Sepultura
for the love of god, organize your videos better. i appreciate your opinions, but i'm not going to watch each of your 20 minute rants to get to the small parts that i care about.
there's so many bands being mentioned left and right that people already know so i'll throw in The Ocean and Sólstafir as bands worth listening to if you haven't done so already
aw man that was my mistake, i meant to say far beyond driven, in fact as i typed vdop, i was thinking of the picture of a drill impaling a skull. my bad
3 that I would add are, Dream Theater Between the Buried and Me Andromeda All are phenomenal bands and still prove they can push the boundaries of their respective genre's.
just have to agree with maiden for #1. they were one of the best metal bands when they started over 30 years ago & they still are & always have been & always will be until their to old to rock. great legends still making great music. UP THE IRONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
best current groups (who are still good now): in no order -Exodus -Death Angel -Dark Angel (reunited in '14, working on a new album) -Suicidal Angels -Hirax -Warbringer -Hatchet -Sylosis -Onslaught -Machine Head (yes I said it, minus The Burning Red&Supercharger of course)

Could you possibly do a and or Album review of "Stop Violence and Madness"? There an old German thrash band and I would hope you have a look at them, perhaps even give them some praise. Jay Magowan \m/>.
Definitely agree on OPETH, Mastodon, BTBAM, Megadeth, Agalloch .... Iron Maiden exists on my elementary school memories and up to somewhere in time, classic Maiden rules.
Wouldn't put them on that list, if you would ask me again. I haven't been into extreme Metal for that long but I have constantly discovered new bands and Dimmu Borgir was one of the first ones I could get into.
I can understand. I'm fairly close to that as well. A couple of years ago, and I would have said that the P***** the V*** was hardcore... in the non-genre sense.. Its hysterical to hear that nowadays lmao
My Top 10 1. Opeth (Albums BEFORE Watershed) 2. Summoning 3. Children of Bodom (Albums BEFORE Blooddrunk) 4. Dark Moor (Albums BEFORE Ars Musica) 5. Bal-Sagoth 6. Arcturus 7. Opeth takes getting used to, if you're just now getting into Metal it is a bit early for them, but their musicianship is the best. It isn't immediately obvious but it is worth it once you get it.
Simillar suit & tie story from me: Was working at a second hand vinyl store, guy comesi n browses around for a minute, doesn't find anythign he likes. Just as he's about to leave he turns and says "Say, you don't have any Slayer, do you?" I said: "I wish man, I wish."

Idk how many that is, but whatever.
stumbled upon your vid cause I'm trying to get back into metal. lost taste for it after listening to a lot of deathcore. Good list, and props for Agalloch and Cannibal Corpse, but I would also add Converge, Meshuggah, and Gojira. All are more relatively modern bands that have a back catalog that are worth looking into.

for the love of god, organize your videos better. i appreciate your opinions, but i'm not going to watch each of your 20 minute rants to get to the small parts that i care about.
What about vader they been releasing good albums since 1992
there's so many bands being mentioned left and right that people already know so i'll throw in The Ocean and Sólstafir as bands worth listening to if you haven't done so already
aw man that was my mistake, i meant to say far beyond driven, in fact as i typed vdop, i was thinking of the picture of a drill impaling a skull. my bad

One of the best live shows I'v been to was Volbeat, go to one if you have a chance. I'm a fan just from seeing them live.
Saw overkill last saturday at Heavy MTL.. fuck they were amazing!

Yeah, and I know what you mean. A few years back I listened to stuff like Muse (still great but not what I prefer anymore).

I'm saddened by the lack of Gojira and High On Fire on this list. Every single album by both of them has been awesome.
Gojira, Amon Amarth!
Opeth takes getting used to, if you're just now getting into Metal it is a bit early for them, but their musicianship is the best. It isn't immediately obvious but it is worth it once you get it.
Simillar suit & tie story from me:
Was working at a second hand vinyl store, guy comesi n browses around for a minute, doesn't find anythign he likes. Just as he's about to leave he turns and says "Say, you don't have any Slayer, do you?"
I said: "I wish man, I wish."
Someone finally mentions Ihsahn in a video!
