In order to perfectly continue the pattern, you could toggle (off) the zoning on the avenue between roundabout and tunnel. This would allow 4U zoning from "Laurel Park". I like the symmetry of the area (for a change), but frankly speaking I'd prefer if one could see the masterpieces in the center from a distance, i.e lower buildings around it.
The new area looks nice but is odd. Two historical landmarks surrounded by the same boxy buildings. I would feel disorientated; all the buildings look the same. I would at least expect some variety between historic and modern. It looks like a cheap housing project surrounding prime historic landmarks. Soviet version of Hawaii
At first I wasn’t feeling how all the buildings looked identical but then you beautified it and gave us the cinematic view at the end and wow I loved it. Probably one of my fav videos yet of New Tealand
The big commercial buildings in the theme were really built to be plopped instead of grown. There's some beautiful ones in there but unfortunately you mainly have just one type now.

Perfect timing. Just sat down for lunch with a large brew and Biffa pops up with another marvellous build! It will look even better after some mass transit upgrades. Keep up the great content Biffa!
This new development doesn't seem consistent with the character of the city. It seems like you've inserted a kind of soviet brutalist architecture, which seems out of place on a coral atoll. It has turned into an eastern block version of Honolulu.
To bring transport in the new area, I would extend the current metro line that is running to the main station. Instead of having that steep transition from the underground to above ground metro, I would have stations (idk if you can find a station that has a built-in overground and underground platforms, otherwise just put two stations next to each other) for the cims to change lines.
Also I think that you could bring a metro line across the mountain (since it’s already tunnels anyways) and to the old (tourism/leisure?) area next to where there is the cinema
There was a young fellow called Biffie, Who built a cool town in a jiffy, He knew no fatigue Through the power of Tea, And it ended up looking quite spiffing

I just used that same metro hub in one of my recent cities. It's amazing! I used it as the centerpiece of my university. This allows all areas of the city to come into the university and switch metro lines or get off and go to school. Works beautifully. Thanks for the idea Biffa!!! My population grew from 60k to over 150k because of that one metro hub along with getting to a 5 star University in just a matter of hours (IRL).
I can tell by the amount of detail in this episode you really enjoyed creating this part of the city. I'd be willing to bet you just couldn't wait to build this. Great start so far, as you said, it does need more and I'm excited to see it.
Hey Biffa & friends, (33:40 -Little tips&trick, maybe ? Upvote to be seen if you like it) maybe use the thingy on the road section, that don't allow the gridline next to a specific road. If you do it just on the big main road, you will still have the sides roads of a "cube space" to be work. So the grid, will now only match the sided roads and make a good/perfect grid. Try it out ? (Work well on 'Un Rond Point' in french :p) I started the game 3 days ago after watching almost 50% of your vid ! Nice job ! But if you got time, i would love you to show exaclty all the set of mods you using. (like the UnifiedUI thingy :o) Because i only find "Top 10" mods, and i think you still using some that you didn't put in the top. (Or i'm just bad with mods haha.) Thanks for the funs !
@Biffa Plays Indie Games For the tourism hub @34:20 you can just change the road zoning, so you turn off zoning on the bridge segments and the grid will reestablish nicely just to the roads who's zones are still on. It is the grid icon where the other road options are located (snapping, curved, etc). The quick setting is the 'upgrade road' toggle then toggle to zone or dezone. It can get tedious but it seriously helps when you converge multiple elevations in the same area. It is a GREAT toggle for when you want to disallow buildings from using certain roads, forcing them to align to side roads to help alleviate traffic on a main throughway, helpful when you grid often. Zoning toolset and No pillars gives this ability, but i think Network extensions 2 also does. Basically it helps clean up the default behavior of the game, which is to give each road zoning when placed, by deselecting certain segments you can better fill blocks. Also, tip with the move it mod, if when you finish moving a building, it isn't green, there's an issue with road zoning alignment or zoning underneath. So, if you ever do your copy paste trick, if after paste if it isn't green but is instead still blue, there's an alignment, road zone toggle, or zone underneath issue. Skips having to re copy a bunch of stuff if you catch it as your placing.
Hey Biffa I just wanted to let you know that you’ve been an amazing inspiration for my city builds and for my anxiety as I fall asleep at night. I do appreciate these City videos and hope that everything is going well for you :).
Eiffel tower is much better in the center as a focal point since it kind of resembles a modern Paris. Especially looking far from a distance. Because the skyline is flat.
Nice as Always :) But ;) 1. is the new area a "no parking" area? There is nowhere to park. All streets are without parking 2. I like the massive concrete blocks. Unfortunately, the town hall and the courtyard are lost as a result. I think there has to be something bigger and more impressive in the middle.
I don't know if anyone else saw it but the tunnel for your metro on the University end is buried. Brilliant episode and loving the look of the new area
Biffa, when designing metro, you should have plenty of places to switch lines. With a hub and spoke system, when you commute between areas close to each other on separate lines, you need to go all the way back to the central hub and then go all the way back out again, which isn't very efficient.
The new area looks nice. 30:24 Maybe the "north" side of the road ("Laurel Park") should have been high density residential. A good source of residents to go to the new commercial/office area, as well as the adjacent university.
I think you should add crossings for the roads, so sims could use those flower garden parks (36:00) as a pathway. Might mess up with the traffic though, but I'd give it a go.
biffa your connection from the train hub to the spider hub got obstructed when you placed the pedestrian crossings on the roundabout! the next tram is going to smash into a big hill lol
I personally feel like this area was a missed opportunity to make an old-town district using the European buildings and all the European themed unique buildings. But ofcourse, this is just a matter of personal opinion.
Great episode, love the new area! The metro coming up through the ground right next to your new area is kinda glitchet out. You can easily fix it with a piece off track on the ground, it's caused by going from "tunnel" to "above ground" right next to each other, you need a piece in between that's "ground level", just make it very short and remember to use node controller after, to fix the slope ;)
6:14 Do not split a line into two parts. It forces an unnecessary transfer, which might decrease ridership because passengers need to wait for the train on the other line. Make lines go all the way through.
Office area naming idea: call the main district Majistea Business Park, then call the inner district Majistea Business Park Plaza. I also recommend adding a couple food trucks and other props to make the plaza look a little more lively.
I don't know, if anyone has said this before...but, you have a great late night "Radio 2 (style) voice". (more than once i've fallen asleep, while watching your vids.). Anyway keep up the good work, old chap.
New district name recommendation: The Royal- Tea Wing. Btw, I think the metro line got a bit messed up before the round-a-bout. Do check and shiftify it a bit :) Love your videos as always!
Could really benefit from putting a cargo train station round the back of the new area (maybe near the big hospital) would definitely reduce all that traffic
Biffa, Biffa, Biffa... You forgot to hook up the pedestrian roundabout directly into the new area! 35:25 just add ramps from the elevated walkway to the corners of the new areas so the pedestrians don't have to walk two blocks over to access the new area? Also, maybe lower the pedestrian walkways? They look about twice as tall as needed. Might not affect the game, but man I get tired just looking at the cims climbing those hills :D
Instead of adding additional roads in to Cedar Hills, you could establish public transport. Maybe a tram or a loopy bus route and a subway station or - alternatively - link the tram to the central station by the university. I would go for a subway station in parallel to the main road which goes under the train tracks in a tunnel and a tram circling around. Another thought you could let the tram cross in the middle between the Palace and the City Hall on tram only tracks. There are also tram+bike tracks.
Another good area built up lickety-split! I think that pedestrian roundabout could be lowered just a touch and also use a direct connection to the new area. Looking forward to seeing what mass transit you use for this area. Also maybe a small leisure area within that tourist area, the college kids would appreciate it!
Biffa. you are so close to using plop the growables! You can do it man! NAME IDEA for you new center: Matcha City Center. Matcha is a type of green tea,
Might need to tweak the levels of the underground monorail, as when you purchase the additional squares with the 81 tile mod it can move them down another 12 units (hence tunnel by the new zone doesn't look right now)
Those assets are gorgeous. It would be nice if you could lower the level of some of the city blocks either on a diagonal or straight through so people can see those lovely centre buildings from different areas of the city. For example, you could have a bike/pedestrian path with some park assets from near the roundabout (or crossing from the campus) cutting towards the centre. This would enable a great view from the campus and would also help the traffic as currently a lot of it is being funneled down that 4 lane road (with no bike path).
For the odd zoning places, I use a road de-zoner mod called “Zoning toolset (toggle + upgrade tool)” by Arch Angel. I dezone my main roads like your 4 lane with bike paths that run through the new areas. I don’t know what your stance is on that mod but it might help you get nice zoneable areas. Sorry if it’s been discussed before!
22:25 Cedar Hills name replacement/suggestion: Teaheim (or Teahead) a Norse sort of name for a capital that also is a nod to the head/fizz part of tea up top. Lafayette name replacement/suggestion: Midgard? Middletea? (Like Middleton)
for transit, just add a station or two on the metro line that already goes through to the spider station from the other area. along with those trees in the middle of the roundabout, you could dump some of those inconvenient rocks in there too.
You should do a run through of plopable RICO, you could put all those buildings in just the way you wanted. That area would be a good example of when you would actually want to try and coordinate the style.
i still think the spider station should be the tea-rantula station

Btw, I think the metro line got a bit messed up before the round-a-bout. Do check and shiftify it a bit :)
Love your videos as always!
I’m loving this series and don’t want it to stop!
Could really benefit from putting a cargo train station round the back of the new area (maybe near the big hospital) would definitely reduce all that traffic
New area reminds me of Barcelona with all of the squared buildings. Looks awesome.
Matcha is a type of green tea,
Might need to tweak the levels of the underground monorail, as when you purchase the additional squares with the 81 tile mod it can move them down another 12 units (hence tunnel by the new zone doesn't look right now)
18:00 - could probably consider making this a 3-lane square-about between the bridges to get into the zones?
You managed to make the most oppressive and scary area I have ever seen in this game.
Its like a capitalist commie block.
The Transit Spider (alternative name suggestion to the one under the last vid)
The new district could be called Sugar Cube Square because the white buildings look like giant sugar cubes
For palace buildings, Royal-tea puns are great 😂
@06:45, that is Royal Palace of Amsterdam which was completed in 1665 which seems to be kept in its original condition.
You should do a run through of plopable RICO, you could put all those buildings in just the way you wanted. That area would be a good example of when you would actually want to try and coordinate the style.
Very nice addition to the city! Theme manager really makes cities come alive. Nice tutorial, this. ;)
