Great review, Jamie! I don't know why but it feels like forever since I've seen one of your videos, always was a big fan. I've been watching a lot about this bike lately, it's pretty tempting!
I'm a quarter ways to 100 years old and I think I would enjoy this bike a lot. Loved my old Delta-Box R1 that felt like a freight train in corners yet planted. the lady isn't as enthusiastic about it.. nor about all the other sport bikes in the garage that do the same thing and I don't blame her. This looks like a winner though, test ride here I come.
Yeah bang on love mine handles great change of direction is fantastic my brakes are getting better more they bed in she's on 800 odd miles now and just gets better every time I ride it
I got one last month, it’s spent more time in the dealership than on the road. It has an oil leak that no one can find. I love the how the bike feels and rides. But it’s getting traded in as soon as it’s back from the shop. If I wanted something that leaks oil all over the place I would ride a cruiser.
Great review Jamie, and yes, I agree with your view of to many buttons etc lol, but sorry, I can't get used to those two staring robot eyes watching my every move lol.
You know that you can use that bike as an old one and use the blinkers and horn only? :) Noone really needs to use all these settings when riding, you can stop and set whatever you want :) I test rode s1000xr and even they've got better buttons than yamaha I found that it just took too much of my attention when riding so still I stopped to set everything.
I read about an aftermarket gel comfort seat for not much money. Yamaha is already selling loads of these bikes and we will find anything we want for it. I'm not saying this is my way when I buy a new expensive bike (but less than his competitors), as many people do. But if it's the right one for you and if there's one or two thing you can set better, without not so many bucks (maybe also a bigger windshield for me, for long trips during a holyday) I think It's ok. In fact the perfect bike doesn't exist, and even if you find a really good one, some little things could always be better.
Another great review, I'd be interested in what you think of the 2021 bmw s1000xr, any chance you'd review one. I bought one this year and after 4k km I still can't make up my mind about it. Absolutely fantastic bike at everything, I just can't put my finger on what feels missing.
Very nice review. Can you please tell us how you find with the ergonomics positions? Arms relaxed and straight back are ok for touring, but what about the angle of the legs? There are, after the seat, also adjustable (up or down) footrest that is great, but I'd like to hear your great traveller opinion.
Jamie, you mentioned the suspension being unexpectedly stiff. It looks like the bike comes with Bridgestone T32 rubber, are they compliant on rough pavement or part of the problem?
@@vpower87 i happen to own a 2021 Benelli TRK 502. Done 5000 km so far alone and with a pillion on a freeway and mountains. Its great for everything on road. And great value for money. Didn't feel underpowered even when riding alongside a BMW 1250 GS
Jamie same switch gear as the niken very tactile and does work well unlike most of the pcb switches .There's been bad reviews of the jokey wheel on the throttle side ,you did not have much to say about that .Yes I don't like the display and it would stop me buying this bike .At this moment in time id still buy a v85tt over the tracer even with less power .
Hey Jamie. I wish I could even find a Tracer 9 to test ride. The closest dealer with one on the floor is 300 miles away and no test rides. I am thinking about the Moto Guzzi V85TT. I'm not a hard core former racer so I am just looking for long range comfort and an enjoyable ride. I can test ride the V85TT. Thoughts?
When it comes to Yamaha, I join a FB group that’s specifically for the bike you’re looking into. Then put out a post asking if anyone is willing to let you test ride theirs. I did that for a T7 and got someone to take me on a 150 mile forest road loop for free. I bought him lunch though.
I appreciate the review. One thing that rarely gets mentioned, even for bikes intended for touring, is the lighting. I personally am no fan of the one-light approach (Euro only?). I don't understand how it benefits anyone. Also, how good are the lights at night? I'm sure I'm not the only person who rides at night ... do the lights sufficiently light the way, especially in corners?
Bravo! Unfortunately, because I love the bike for my next one to have, and I hate riding at night without enough light, someone showed they are quite poor. But still I think the thing has to be cleared well.
@@nemozack3767 Incase this is still relevant to u. I did a big roadtrip, 7000km. Did alot of riding in the dark and night, zero issues whatsoever. The lights are more than good enough, bright, with or without low beam. Dont worry.
Nice review @MotoGeo I did get the chance to see one of the new Tracer 9 GT in red (awesome) and I must say Yamaha done a great deal of cosmetic work. I believe this is easily one of the top pick in the sport touring category. You forgot to mention the side fairing & flagship race lights almost like R1.
I just don't see how I could buy that for 15 grand when I bought my KTM 1290 SAS for 16,500. I mean there's not much comparison between the two and I know which one I'd rather be riding
Glad you're happy, test rode my brothers KTM 1290 GT , tractor springs to mind lol , went with the Yam , be a boring world if we all liked the same . Ride safe !
It's for people who wish to tour but don't wish to cruise. It's for red blooded personalities who wish to tour the country. "Honda manufactures motorcycles for everyone, Yamaha engineers bikes, and people buy them."
Good job Yamaha 👍 Apart from the seat is crap, the dash is crap and the screen is crap. And you can't get a full size helmet in the panniers. And the rear suspension is not adjustable for rebound damping when your carrying luggage and pillion. Apparently. (Gleaned from other reviews)
The stock seat can be swapped for "comfort" or even" comfort heated" from the accessories catalogue. Full size touring helmet fits just fine, people just don't know the helmet must be placed upside down. The rest is just personal point of view. There is always option to buy an another and better bike for 25k USD plus. For given money the Tracer GT is great made in Japan package. Great powerful engine, gearbox, frame, electronic safety aids, KYB semi active suspension. Just be realistic this is not 30.000 USD BMW touring uber bike.
The double display is a screaming nightmare. Two people should be fired. The guy who thunk of it and the guy who approved it. You can’t read anything if you’re not a kid.
Mostly I wanted Yamaha to make a Japanese MV Agusta Turismo Veloce, a smaller, lighter, rowdy quarter-fairing semi-touring ripster. But this bike is heavy, large, buttons and screens too complex, and the engine has been neutered too much for the weight and size of the bike, considering the MT model has about 60 less pounds.
A dual display is great, but why did they have to make it SOOOO FUCKEN UUUUUGLY with so tiiiiiny text/numbers ❓❗❓❗ ☝🤣 This display is the ONLY reason I did not buy this bike ❗☝🤮

You forgot to mention how awesome the quick shifter is on this bike. Very smooth up and down shifting!

Does MT stands for Master of Torque not 'maximum'?
Could we please have a pure riding video. Love the ending with just sound and riding.

great review, well presented, very informative and wonderfully shot
Thank you for stating your suggestions for improvements. Great content.

Would love to see you review a truly budget middleweight bike that can tour which most people can afford such as the Benelli TRK 502!
Just go with Standard tracer 9 is cheap...Benelli trk 502 is very bad and slow

I work second shift and as a commuter I wondered the same thing about how the lights work at night
The lights do their job and I live in a rural area without any street lights on most roads.

If there’s a clear intention to stress the sport part of the sport-tour, shouldn’t it have an ST rather than a GT designation?
have notice any vibration on footpegs or handlebar after 6.500rpm?
Not in the first 1000 miles bud .
Enjoyed the critical take as much as I love Jamie’s usually light hearted reviews.
Really like your comments, they're rational and unbiased

Basically the replacement for the FJR1300 here ladies and gentlemen!
How tall are you Jamie? I hear the windscreen is noise for ppl over 6ft.
5'9, windscreens are a very personal preference but can also be easily changed.
I'm 5'10" screen is noisy for me , only real fault with the bike tbh .
Awesome sauce 😎
This or an r1250r?
Will either pannier fit a helmet?
Yes, you can fit a full face helmet.
Xxl?

That dash is a hard no for me. I love the concept and execution as a sport tourer, but I’m not paying all that cash to stare at Groucho’s face.
i hate the dash as well but in the end it by far not the most important part, after engine, comfort, handling, spec and price.
