    Before a workout I like having some sparkling water and I probably go through four of these bottles a day.
    For a post workout snack I’m having whole grain toast with peanut butter, banana and hemp hearts. For Baby E, he’s having some ricotta and berries and pieces of toast with peanut butter and hemp hearts.
    Time for coffee, of course and I this is when I take my daily probiotic.
    For breakfast, I’m having a veggie and cheese frittata and Baby E is having some too.
    For a snack, I’m having some granola bar scraps that we made for the blog.
    For my and Baby E’s lunch, we’re having cod and veggies with a romesco sauce.
    For an afternoon snack, I’m putting together a trail mix with all the random snacks I have in my pantry (see the links above to get these snacks).
    For dinner, I’m pulling together odds and ends from the fridge. We made a big Mexican pasta casserole for recipe testing, so that’s dinner for me!
    If you guys hadn’t noticed, I served my son dessert at the same time with the rest of his meal. I do this to remove the novelty factor around sweet foods and desserts. By serving both at the same time, he learns to regulate his appetite so that he’s not eating to satiety with his main course and then eating past his satiety when it’s dessert time.
    Last treat of the night is strawberry rhubarb gelato and I topped it off with some almonds.
    Before bed, I take omega-3s, vitamin E for fertility purposes, prenatal multivitamin and vitamin D3 for fertility purposes.
    This is not meant to be a diet how to and it’s not prescriptive.

      @JacquelineUnderwood 4 года назад +26

      Stacy R I really hope your daughter appreciates that you noticed and put effort into helping her curb that behavior. Jacqueline Underwood Thank you. Yes, it’s so hard for young girls. I feel it used to be even worse. My extended family always thought it was ok to publicly comment on my weight, weather it was up or down. They would make me line up with other family members to compare the size of our bottoms. I can’t imagine how a grown up would not understand how humiliating that it is for a child. For years I only ate one meal a day and later took to fasting up to four days at a time. I’m glad that you’re in a better place. It’s a lot to overcome.

    • @JacquelineUnderwood
      @JacquelineUnderwood 4 года назад +14

      Stacy R it really is. My mom used to publicly comment on my appearance as well. She only stopped after I ended up running out of a shop in tears. I had finally found a dress I actually felt cute in (this was during the height of my ED, and I never found anything I thought I looked cute in, and my mom made me think that anything that wasn’t at least a size too big looked bad) and she told me that I should try a size up because it was too tight and made me look bad (it actually fit like an A line dress is supposed to). This was after several hours of constantly being told various versions of this for everything I tried on. I haven’t gone clothes shopping with her since.
      I don’t understand how adults can be so blind to how their commentary affects the young people who look up to them. Not to mention, she at least contributed a lot to my ED and says things to this day that really aren’t healthy regarding food.

      @@DestinyOfPig Oh my god...I have the same problem!!! There were certain things that I just wasn't allowed to eat at all because they were "too unhealthy" (but mom could eat them) and other things was "just 1". I would sneak candy/snacks every time my parents left the house, and my mom would get mad every time she caught me. When I went off to college, I had a HUGE sugar addiction. I would buy chocolate from costco and eat huge handfuls of chocolate. One time, I ate like a pound and a half of chocolates in one sitting while studying for an exam. I don't have this tendency anymore. My relationship with sugar is a lot better. I could never figure out why I had this problem when I was younger. Maybe this is it!!!

    Water, coffee, cream, workout, plain whole milk yogurt with cocoa nibs, hemp hearts, chia, berries of whatever is in the freezer. 2 to 3 hours later, we eat a more significant breakfast, sometimes we don’t. ... a meat of choice and veggies of choice. We sometimes end with dessert.

    The Division of Responsibility is something I wish my mom knew. I think this is the root of my childhood obesity that continues in my adulthood. She would often say I had to finish my plate and they would be adult servings. That there were starving kids everywhere. I’ve forgiven her for this and she knows now it was wrong but it’s hard bc it’s a habit I have to fix. Listening to my hunger cues and intuitive eating has really helped me maintain and not continue to gain weight but losing it is the hard part. I know when I have kids I want to do what you are doing with baby e. 🥰

    Your approach to eating is so healing and healthy! Love all the meal ideas you provide and how conciously you think about food. I'm four weeks in to a meal plan from a personal trainer without any dietary background and I was getting so fed up with it and counting calories. I thought I'd try it (don't have much weight to lose but still thought it might help) but now I know that intuitive eating is much more right for my body. The way you feed Baby E is awesome. From the time my twin boys were like 7-8 months old (now almost 5) and started having regular meals with us they always ate some version of what we ate. There was never any pressure for them to eat a certain amount it was just whatever they wanted. Now that did mean that if for some reason they didn't eat anything, there was no replacement meal of substitute so sometimes they would be a little hungry and then they would usually make up for that at the next meal. They have become the most adventurous eaters and will happily gobble down almost anything we give them. We don't ever worry about them eating enough, somedays they eat hardly anything and other days it seems they eat more than my husband and I. This allows us to make sure they are eating a more balanced diet, rather than snacking all day on carb only snacks. I really believe too much snacking can lead to lack of interest in meals. Dessert can be a struggle though, mostly because grandparents don't always understand our approach to meals and still make dessert something to strive for as a reward for eating a little of a meal. Once a upon a time a carrot, some berries, or a small muffin was a sought after dessert and now cookies and ice cream from grandmas pantry is always on their little minds. I might actually try restructuring and adding reasonable portion of a healthy dessert to the dinner table to see if that helps.

Eating in front of them is HUGE but so many people forget about it as they feed stuff they wouldn't want to eat to their baby (I've seen lots of parents trying to get their kids to eat something like broccoli while putting lots of pressure on them and not showing them its ok to eat because the adult doesn't actually eat or like broccoli)

My ED dietician is going to introduce intuitive eating for me and it's a concept i've been terrified of for years now, however watching your videos has truly started to transform my mindset behind it and make me feel a lot more confident that intuitive eating doesn't equal restriction or deprival. I also really love your mindset behind the dessert thing for Baby E. It makes a lot of sense, and has made me think differently about dessert as well. You also have helped me (as well as obviously my incredible ED dietician!) stop demonising foods with sugar and oil and salt, and learning to listen and honour my cravings. • @marychristensen942
      @marychristensen942 5 лет назад +1

      I'd like to see a review of Liezl Jayne as well. Her portions seem about right for me and she has a lot of good advice, but I'd like to learn more about how nutritious her choices are. She advises a diet of between 1200 and 1600 calories for a woman to lose weight depending on height and size and recognizes that she is on the smaller side, so she goes on the low end of that recommendation. Abby, if your portions are similar to what you regularly eat, you are eating a lot more than me on a daily basis and I weigh over 200 pounds. I can't seem to get a handle on how to lose weight safely and stay sane. I am over 50 years old and it feels like I've been on a diet since a was in my teens.

    • @draculena
      @draculena 5 лет назад +1

      Mary Christensen oh, i see! i guess her portions seem small to me since i eat two meals a day with minimal snacking, so i prefer much larger portions. i do agree that she hangs on the low side of caloric recommendations, though, and that’s simply not sustainable long-term. i have a much more stable relationship with food when i’m eating between 1200 calories and my maintenance calories. anything more or less completely disorients me and my process.
