    I’ve been vegan for almost 10 years, grew up in Detroit, and I’m a HUGE fan of Lizzo. I just want to point out Lizzo is an actual Popstar, she’s incredibly wealthy (love that for her). Being vegan- even in poorer neighborhoods in Detroit and beyond, doesn’t have to require so many ingredients and doesn’t have to be expensive. Loved this video!!

    Abby I am overweight (I am also very short, and generically the women in my family were chubby) but just by following the general rule of adding protein and fiber (without making stuff taste bland), I have lost about 6 kilos. Not in a month but rather 3. But I got at a point where my ... What do you call it... Wright plateau, is smaller than I have ever been, personally.
    And I feel ok with this.
    You helped me see that losing weight is not a goal. Not timed. But rather.... A process. That one's body will go through, if you give your body what it needs.
    With 0 exercise, and not a day of feeling restricted or "punished", I lost more in 2 months than I ever did in my life, following "traditional diets" (aka stuff focused on weight loss rather than .. well, common sense)
    Pardon my English. I am Romanian.

    I have had a severe egg allergy for as long as I can remember and for the longest time a tofu scramble has been my egg replacement. We Just Egg launched several years ago I was SO EXCITED to have an actual replacement for eggs and I really wanted to try them but being the skeptic I am looked up reviews and saw an overwhelming amount of hate towards the products that I didn't try them. But when Miss Lizzo came on the scene and gave them a glowing review I decided to look up people with allergies or those following a plant based diet and found the opposite they all mostly liked or loved the items. We like both the liquid and patty version of the products in my home. My toddler son likes the patties diced or sliced into strips and my one year old daughter likes the liquid scramble with crumbled bacon, sautéed mushrooms, bell peppers, and fresh spinach 😍😋🤤. Now if they could keep the price at a reasonable rate we'd have A+ products in our books.

      @@peanutbutter4726 they spoil pretty quickly and if you get the liquid version and the bottle gets puffy/swollen and kind of explodes when you try to open it toss it out it's gone bad. I always have to check the date to make sure there's enough time to use it before it goes bad and because it's kind of pricey they sometimes sit on the shelf without getting tossed and replaced with fresh bottles. Both forms have a nice savory flavor and chewy/bouncy texture. The liquid cooks best in a nonstick skillet. I usually add a bit of salt, garlic powder, and black pepper to each form but if I make a scramble I add a strip of bacon, sautéed mushrooms & sweet bell peppers, and spinach.

    Tip for making the salad dressing: go easy on the cashews. They make it sweet, but also thick and pasty if you have too many. The flavor was good but ours would have been better with like 1/8 cup of cashews. This is the downside of a recipe that has no measurements. I prefer to start with measurements and make it my own from there.

    • @christinelamb1167
      @christinelamb1167 5 месяцев назад +1

      Those GIANT handfuls of both cashews and walnuts made me gasp! Waaay more than an entire day's serving just in that dressing. I'm not fat-phobic, but that's just a bit too much for one meal.
      On a side note: I'm not big on my salad swimming in dressing, so while the dressing sounded good, there's no way I would dump the entire blender full onto my one serving of salad!
      I know Abbey means well, but sometimes I think she goes too far in the other direction from restricting. You don't want to restrict, but it's also not necessary to go way overboard, either, just to prove you're not restricting!

    I'm Puerto Rican and grew up eating plantains 😊 Just a note for anyone wanting to try sweet plantains - the ones Abbey used looked like unripe ones to me (the peel is green, texture is stiff and more like potatoes/starchy). When we eat them sweet (called maduros or amarillos) we wait for the peel to basically go black and yellow, that's when they're ripe/soft and the taste is much closer to bananas. When we fry them up unripe they're squished into a patty (tostones) and it's one of my favorite comfort foods 🤤.

    Hey! Just to be clear, obesity is a definite indicator of poor health. Abbey and a lot of HAES activists jump around the issue by saying "it's not the sole indicator of health" but this is a logical fallacy that we call the 'red herring' fallacy. Just because it's not the sole indicator of health, doesnt mean weight is not one of the indicators of health, and using this kind of language is intended to mislead listeners. There are hundreds of studies showing obesity leads to conditions such as sleep apnea, diabetes, joint pain, cardiovascular disease, and countless others. They also say "you cannot assume someone is healthy or unhealthy from their size" and "skinny people can be unhealthy too". Again, these are intended to mislead you. Do not be tricked by wording. While you cannot assume someone is healthy or unhealthy if they have no obvious signs of disease (i.e a thin, fit person) you can know someone is healthy if they display obvious signs of disease (i.e obesity).
    There is no shame in being obese, but there is shame in lying to people and giving them inaccurate information about the health risks of obesity. People have the right to stay fat, but they must have the information so that that choice will be informed. It is disgusting that a registered dietician would lie to people like this and put their health at risk.

    Abbey I think your messaging around obesity could cause serious harm. People who are this big and remain healthy/fit throughout their lives are very rare, as are people who eat a normal diet and are as big as Lizzo is. This weight puts stress on the whole body, from heart to joints. We have to recognize that obesity can have serious complications and often does. Shame doesn't work but blank acceptance is just as damaging. When one of your close relatives is obese and ill because of it or even when it just worsens an existing condition such as heart failure like in my father's case, these woke word salads mean nothing. It's okay to say that being 100 pounds overweight is a health problem.

    Why do people associate vegan with healthy? plant based protein is not the same as real meat. Sometimes vegan snacks can have way more calories than normal snacks. The key for a healthy diet is moderation and a eating a variety of foods. And of course limiting processed foods.

    Abbey, another great video...and I would just like to say, peoples weight and what/how they eat is not so much a problem as the mindset of some of the people and the 'official Abbey Haters fanclub' in your comment section. Disgusting! Speaking of "concentration camps" and "put fat people on deserted islands"..and other horrific shaming comments. At least people with ED and/or too heavy or too thin have a solution. People with digusting and hateful hearts and minds..not so much, if at all. Someone's body is not my or anyone elses business but those with hate and intent to shame and bring others down are whats wrong with our world. Its very sad.
