- As promised the cabin tour! It’s took a while to get this video together but it’s finally here and I sure hope you will all enjoy it!
I will continue to show progress work if the cabin.

Not to worry Moma Brisson, Criticizer's won't be popular on here. This is really positive. Your Daughter is resourceful, hard working, and talented, and that is wonderful in itself, but perhaps even more warming for you, and us, she's sharing it to help others, and everybody on here, including me, is seeing good ideas from this, and thinking about a better style of living, that is going to give greater contentment, especially in these trying times. He is 7yrs.old. A solid 40 LBS. of I'll rip your leg off! Mom don't leave without me?! That howls like a dying chicken! All jokes aside both dogs would fight to the death for her. So I can't complain.

There's something to say for simplicity. The more things i have the more confused i feel, so that little cabin is peace, tranquility and contentment.
I have 50 acres of land in northern Ontario as well and I always said one day I will sell my property in Newmarket area and build a small cabin on my land up north you have inspired me to think harder on it, and as for being alone if you love yourself and are connected to your spirit you are never lonely

Hello Lisette. I can see that you are so happy in your off grid lifestyle. I think many of your viewers (like me!) are envious of the lifestyle that you choose to live. When you enjoy what you do, is it really considered work? You are smart, and extremely capable in so many aspects, in fact, you put most guys to shame in that area. I enjoy the solitude. Without distractions and noise, it’s easier to think and approach points of interest with a calmer yet more directed attitude. I remember waking up in my cabin, walking outside and just looking, listening & smiling because it’s your land and your place was just a little better today than yesterday. Skills increased with time. No TV and read the classics I always intended on but never had the time to. Ideas flowed better and life just felt right. It was my Rottweiler and I. We were happy.

I agree, the first part looks really nice so if it where my place I'd try and keep that look going with the new addition. I would also put some quick effort into the well you spoke of, the risk of fire with no pressurized water, I'd hate to see a dream-house all go up in flames. Safety first!

I grow up in a home that had a kitchen, 1 bedroom, and a living room which had a pot bellied coal stove in it for heat (there were 5 of us). We had an outhouse. We did have electricity and well water. Lived there till I was 14, and nothing but fond memories. No tv till I was in grammar school, but all the family gathered up in the living room around the radio at night and listened to the programs, like "Behind The Green Door" , Amos and Andy, The Green Hornet, the Grand Old Opry, Boston Blackie, The Creaking Door, I can't remember them all now. I live in the mountains of Western North Carolina and the winters can be quite cold, I don't believe there was any insulation in the old house, but you pile 3 people in one bed, you can stay toasty warm. So I know exactly how you are living and how enjoyable it was for me way back when.

I must say that in my opinion growing up on a farm is one of the best possible ways for a person to become a great all round human being that is kind, caring, thoughtful and respectful. Many of those that grow up in a city will never have the same understanding of full life and how they can affect the world.
I must also say that I think you are a fantastic lady. I grew up with an outhouse and no running water and where you had a bath once a week. And now some people think they need 2 or 3 showers a day, what a waste of water. I am super impressed with what you have done so far with your home in the wilderness.

@@One.woman.wilderness Thanks Lisette. Many countries in the world do not have enough water but in North America a lot of people shower in the morning, shower when they get home from work and shower again before bedtime just in case they may have sex that night.
Another great video. I lived that way until I was in my teen's. Then I lived that way for another ten years in Idaho. Those were the best of times. I for one know how you feel about this way of life. I was happy living that way. I applaud you for living the life that makes you happy. You have a beautiful home, enjoy it as long as you can. Sending my best for you and your way of life.

Love the walk through tour! The use of barn board and beams on the ceiling looks great - you should consider that for the loft ceiling as well. The board and batten theme works well on the original cabin and would look just as good on the addition as well. I want a stove like that! You’ve created a little slice of heaven!❤️

I too came from a simple upbringing where we didn’t have all the “finer things” that a lot of others had & I think it made me a better man growing up that way. Looks to me like you are doing what it take to please the one person that has to be pleased, your own self. Your cabin is going to be what you want and make of it, it is beautiful all ready and like you said , lil at a time it gets done. Best to take your time and get the right material than to rush and wind up not liking what you did. You asked about the siding on the outside, but only you knows what you are after and the way you want it to look so it will one day come to you. Till then, you have other things to do. Seems like you have it thought out, now it just takes time to come together but looks like you have the right mindset for what your doing. One thing I like about you, you take time to enjoy life and your babies.

Your home looks very well built and thoughtfully laid out. And my humble suggestion for siding is to match the exterior of the front entrance of the cabin as it looks amazing. And the interior barn boards are stunning. The space is very well thought out and functional and love the sunlight shining in from the Southern Windows to warm the space. I love the serenity of your home and congratulate you on a very nice job building your cabin Lisette. Bravo!
Great video!! The good thing about having a long to do list is that you will always have great content to put on RUclips. I know that you will get excited and get great joy from every renovation but so do we. You know a few years ago, I had my favourite RUclips channel. It was called pure living for life. It was a young couple who move from the city, bought a property in the country and lived in a trailer while they built there own house. Then next thing you know , they were moved into the house. I was so excited for them. Then they were slowly finishing inside the house. I was so excited for them and just loved watching the home improvement. Then one day they suddenly stopped uploading to RUclips. People were worried about them. They did make a few odd videos months later and then never been seen since. The weird thing is that they never explained why they had disappeared from RUclips. All the worried subscribers asking what is going on never ever got an explanation. I felt like I lost part of my family. I still wonder if they ever finished the house. Anyways now I have your channel to watch improve your cabin. I’m getting so excited to see your next Reno. Please don’t disappear like Pure Living For Life. 🤣🤣

Lisette, I am a new subscriber and I am so happy you have found a way to live your life the way you've always wanted. My best friend and I are both 40ish, never married single mothers and very likely will never meet anyone worthy of marriage. We're going so far as to having a civil union because we want to live our lives a certain way that no man has offered. Loved the intro music also love the simple design of your home, sometimes having no running water is a good thing the climate in winter there you could have frozen pipes considering you have no basement. As far as the outside of the house it will depend on your budget but I would try to match the look of the entrance of your home if you can. It would complete the rustic look I think you are looking for. As always great video and thank you for sharing your daily life.
I think cedar and iron cladding would give it a nice modern touch to your addition and go well with the rest of your cabin. Your home is gorgeous!

50% genius 50% hardwork , your art work is great and you'll always make extra through that , I haven't done art for ages , I was good , I had a wee head injury and I never got my mojo back for it , Lissette 🙌
In your stove you should stack the wood so that there is a little more of it (a thick/fat block) and smaller gaps between the blocks of wood. And more importantly, put the thick/fat block ones on the down and the paper and thin twigs on top so that you light from the top, not the down. Then the wood will burn slower and stay warm longer :)
ps: of course, when you start firing up the stove again every time :)
Hint for starting fire for short term breakfast lunch etc. Build you fire with paper kindling, and do not split ryour handling of flats.
I knocked off all thinest of wedges into three sided kindling.Talking stove not campfire mostly. When you set your kindling place pointed edge down. This way thin point catches quickly but as it burns the thickerpart falls down and last longer.
You want fire all night you place wedge downward over coals, fire burns more consistently last longer and builds coals faster.
I always think outside the box, For your upstairs walls how about covering them with canvas and doing a mural?
Can’t wait to see what Cedar Siding on the Exterior of your additions. I had an off grid cabin Chalet in Fairbanks, Alaska. Heat provided by a toyo stove and a wood stove. Includes bath septic water & electric. Thanks.

Ro and I always enjoy your videos. They always tell a story and are so well done. Having the skills and determination to live the rural/life style, that adds happiness to your life is very evident.
Us being a (bit) older do only running water. We have a artisan well. There is a story behind that which we will tell you sometime.
Watching Kimber and Miss Snow playing in the new snow, the crunch and crispness underfoot is just nature trying to show her best.
Going around the cabin outside then transferring to inside is so professional and smoothly done.
Love the cabin story the way you tell it, we can see each step the cabin takes in coming to fruition. We feel apart of it. "That's the mud room" Ro would tell me before the CC came up. Got one too, also not finished inside.
Seeing all the old pieces through out your rooms adds to the ambience that your cabin home has.
The half log staircase leading up to your bedroom/art studio looks great. That is worth saying again.
The view, the light coming in, looking at the moon and stars at
night, just awesome. You are not alone, you're living in harmony with nature and two fur babies too.
You are happy and just let life take its course, facing each change as it comes. Koodos to you. Doing life your way and not by the demands that society imposes.
A hard worker never in doubt in our minds. Plus coming from a farm background which Is still hard work today instilled in you the work ethic that you naturally come by.

Ok lisette, let me get this straight. Your living off grid, you love it..that’s fine, I think it’s a wonderful thing to do, I wish I could do it myself. Your cabin is perfect for 1 person and 2 dogs. My question is in the event of an emergency how far is it for medical attention? The things that you do are everyday situations, but in real life there’s always circumstances you could fall from ladders, slip on the ice etc..just curious to know your way of thinking about this before you took this lifestyle…..PS..love your vidieos.

Thank you for the tour of your beautiful cabin. My wife and I have been on our place almost 40 years now. We hauled water and burned wood for heat many years. In the winter we have to park 100 yards or so from our house because our lane is so steep coming in. It hasn't been easy, but my wife and I have no regrets and wouldn't have had it any other way, because the life and experiences we have had over the years have more than made up for the hardships. It's easy to see that you are in your element and love the life you're living. Life is too short to not make the best of it and live a life you love.

May I suggest lining one of your closets with cedar wood --- preferably aromatic red cedar --- it not only smells good but also looks good! Also: if you like color and texture then you could plaster some of your walls and use pastel colors to create a faux-style look. This does not have to be permanent and is easy to change with just a new base coat and start anew. Faux style also combines well with wood wainscotting. One other suggestion: if you plaster a wall ( and that could be just with joint compound, something easy ) you can push in pieces of ferns, grasses, flower stems, even flowers... and create a relief texture in the wall --- then carefully remove them leaving an impression... let it all dry... and later do a wet wash with a latex-based color --- this creates just a beautiful effect. I have done this using bracken ferns... then doing a duotone wash with green colors to make it feel like the forest floor. Also: you can also gather rocks and shells and other findings... and just push them into a base of wet plaster and leave them to dry in place --- this also creates a nice atmosphere on a wall or hidden corner. Just a few suggestions, is all ... if you are creative then you can come up with your own ideas and inspirations.
By the way...I also have a real log cabin, but not off-grid... still quite rustic, and with a lot of character. I have made it almost feel like a museum.

The way you live is amazing, you should be proud that you are so self sufficient. Not many women are so diligent & strong, I think it let's you appreciate life much more living the simplest ways to get through one's life.
