      A suggestion MD, though the soil or water or other stuff are cycled earlier....adding fresh soil will leach ammonia and shrimps can't handle that. Give them time in the old water and add after sometime. It's just my experience regarding this. Happy Aquascaping!❤️

Careful with ghost shrimps as I had some with my betta and they loved to fight with him for food. They would nip at the tail

    I also read an article a few months back saying that water fleas (cyclops) thrive when the water quality is great. And they're part of the cleaning crew as they eat decaying organic material, detritus, most algae, bacteria and yeast. But their presence also indicates that you have an excess amount of food. I have them in my shrimp tank too.
    Well done for creating this piece btw!

    I'm so jealous of how much more affordable aquascaping is in the UK and how much easier it is to get access to quality materials. The aquascaping hobby in the US is pretty much monopolized by like, 3 brands which makes everything incredibly expensive.

    Hi MD crs are caridina shrimp and they prefer lower ph water. the crushed lava rock actually increases the ph thus lava rock is mainly used for keeping Sulawesi shrimp or neocaridina shrimp in the hobby. But if you check the ph and it doesn’t increase too much I think that wouldn’t cause too much of a problem. Hope this helps :)

    Did he cycle his tank? Wont the substrates seep ammonia? It could post potential danger to CRS

    • @miafrewin6438
      @miafrewin6438 3 года назад

      He used the same already cycled filter and most of the same water so the beneficial bacteria in the water and in the filter will still remain there so it should be good

    • @ShirtPapa
      @ShirtPapa 3 года назад

      @@miafrewin6438 he did opened a new packet of substrates if you realise. The new substrates needs cycling too as usually they will seep ammonia. Correct me if I am wrong

    • @miafrewin6438
      @miafrewin6438 3 года назад

      @@ShirtPapa it depends whether the soil is ammonia rich i guess. But I guess it's nothing a few more water changes and testing the water frequently won't solve. Plus I think the bacteria from the layer underneath might quickly spread to the top layer of soil if it was ammonia rich so then more bacterial colonies would develop ? Not sure though

    • @ShirtPapa
      @ShirtPapa 3 года назад

      @@miafrewin6438 hmm this is my personal opinion and my way of Doing things. Not forcing upon anybody. My rule of thumb is always to cycle your tank when new substrates are used due to the nature of ammonia seeps. Even if there is existing Beneficial colony when using used water etc, that doesn’t change the fact that ammonia is present and it posts a threat to the CRS in the tank. The only thing that change using existing setup with new substrates would mean shorter tank cycling.
      That’s why I am quite shock when he introduced CRS immediately into a tank where new substrates are present..

    • @miafrewin6438
      @miafrewin6438 3 года назад +1

    The thing you’re saying about water fleas, in a survival situation, if you came across two ponds of water, one completely clear with nothing swimming in it, and one slightly dirty, full of things swimming around in it, you’d want to collect your water from the dirty one. If nothing is growing in the water, it’s a sign there is something wrong with it. So yeah, you’re right. 🤙🏻

    I've watched almost all your videos and u taught me almost all I know about aquariums. But does your aqua soil ever make the water black when first filling a tank. Or do u wash it or what?

    A healthy amount of water fleas is a sign of a well-balanced aquarium with many food sources. An extreme amount of water fleas, as exhibited in your aquarium, can be a sign of poor water quality. This does not hold true for all aquariums. I have an eastern newt tank with a similar amount of water fleas, yet my water quality is perfectly fine.

    Are you using a tiny plastic dish for snail food to avoid ammonia and gross stuff getting into the substrate? That's genius!

    In your videos you always say that you hate throwing away plants. Maybe you can make a website or something to sell them.

    They're called copepods, and yeah, if they're there it means the water quality is good

    Well, if I had a healthy tank and no small fish, there would be some cyclops water flea.
