- In this nano aquascape tutorial for beginners we are going to step by step set up a small blue velvet shrimp tank! I'm super excited to have more shrimp tanks on the shelf! These 20 liter nano tanks are too small for most fish, but they are perfect size to make a small nano aquascape for a nice shrimp colony. So we are starting with the Blue Velvet Shrimp, which ones should we go for next?

Gold shop.
But i know a very good shop in belgium.
Specialist ADA DOOA...😱😱😱😱
hehe awesome to see you working with shrimps, a more classic but awesome color is the white ones:) Random question: you tested the wrgb2 slim/pro. I wanted to ask if the shades for the slim/normal wrgb2 fit on the pro? Chihiros/website sell them separately but at the same price, and the pro shades are not available anywhere yet otherwise:)
É Douro e Sado! Acho serem empresas portuguesas ou referência a tal. Temos várias em Portugal ciano, aquatlantis, ILA entre outras.
Nice work MJ It turned out great. 👍
Thanks a lot MD!
Wow MD fishtanks!! My two favourite channels!!
The man has spoken!!!
@@oscargallardo8889 so true
MJ is still better haha
I am in love with that pet/fish store!!! Here in the US when you go into a store for fish they’re bare tanks, improper substrates, the fish look stressed and dying. It’s so nice to see such proper handling of the fish and so many plants 😭. Also I had no idea the shrimp came in so many fancy colors! Your set up looks amazing.
This is probably the most beautiful scape for a nano shrimp tank I have ever seen. Great work keep it up
They are so blue! What a great fish store. I'm jealous of the selection and the health of the fish. I wish the US had more stores like this. Around me the stores are all chain stores with subpar quality. Thanks for the video, take care.
You mean you don't like the four aquatic plants covered in bba that the stores carry? 😂
Must be awesome having that level of quality so close by.
Yeah we are a little spoiled here! The amount of fish shops this little country has is quite insane...
I feel the pain. US fish stores suck. There are 3 I uses local. Well semi local. 3 hours away. Lol
I empathize- closest store is tiny and over an hour's drive. A store like this one would be a dream!
Lovely little scape for awesome shrimp. I have all the neo colors and the blue, orange and yellow are the most dynamic in my setups.
Saame. I live in Canada, and my city offers petsmart, pet land. The only place that I've noticed has a huge selection is local run business. Expect the prices are insane. Like $50 for a small group of driftwood or stones. Some of the river rock is about $20 a rock and it just fits in the palm of my hand. The only upside is the fish are really good quality from being taken care of. Bettas all have their own tanks with live plants. Although! One local store has driftwood for $12 which isn't that bad.
looks brilliant
Thanks!
this aquascape tutorial is amazing , very nice scape u have there!
The pop of color from the snail is also lovely.
Thank you for this! Your timing couldn’t be better; I’m preparing to start my first Blue Velvet tank. 🦐
Loved seeing the fish store you went to. It looks like it has a huge variety of everything you’ll need for an aquarium. I’d probably spend a ton of time looking in there😀. The shrimp and plants were beautiful. I have shrimp as well and love my blues. Your scape turned out lovely and your blues look amazing in there.
The moment you released the shrimp was everything
Beautiful shelf and great way to display beautiful tanks My new inspiration
Great set-up, thanks for the quality content you post!
I really like this scape.
Nice one.
And awesome fishstore.
Knew it by name but never been there.
Fieldtrip for family some time.
Recently i rescaped a nano tank and i also combined hairgrass with Juncus Repens.
Its a really cool combination.
Gorgeous work, orange would really pop! ❤
As always. Amazing. I vote for the Orange ones :)
Looks insane!!! Your scapes always make me go ' WOW '. The blue shrimps were a grate choice.! Love your videos!!!!!!
Thanks so much!
I love how the background tall grass compliments this setup 👌😍
Glad you like it!
All your works very beautiful and wonderful, thank you for all video. Good luck
Stunning video. Best one yet. I’ve been following silently along but had to send my praise this evening.
Go get those yellows!
Thank you! Will do!
Just got into this hobby and find your channel to be my favorite of all that I have come across. Looking forward to going through more of your videos
Welcome aboard!
You make it look so easy!!! Those are some Stunning Blues! But have to say, Orange is my Fav! Thank you for another beautiful tutorial! Love Field Trips!!
I'm definitely getting the orange ones at some point!
Great video Mark! Heems what a beautiful store
yes, the orange one would look good too
Nice set up! Those shrimp look awesome!
never failed to surprise me with such amazing builds 👍
Glad you like them!
Makes me want to do a color theory set up. 😂❤
I just found your channel today. I’m so glad I did. Your explanations are spot on. I also was surprised at your tricks. Never thought of the window film, sprinkling dirt on glue to hide, or separating plants in rock wool like that. Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you!
Great little tank! And what a nice store!
Since you got blue ones this time, I think you should go for yellow shrimp next.
The rack looks so beautiful! jealous for sure lol
Looks awesome. Blue Velvet I have had are so cool. They get bigger than you expect. I plopped a rescue betta who is so chill (don't do this unless you get a dude as chill as the one I found) and he has bright blue flares on his fins (double veil tailed so slow and when they jet away he doesn't bother to chase) and in a full planted tank they're cooperating and I ordered some more blues then I noticed one of my females was berried. So lots of shrimp. But I even had a baby shrimp with first shipment and the natural plants plus sponge filter on top of over side (intake) have made him thrive.
It has been a journey. It is difficult to tell people keeping a fish is not a toy.
Looks great! And what beautiful shrimps! I think you made the right choice with the blues 😊
Thank you 😋
I know it's too late to comment, but I think you should get the orange ones, then get a few more tanks and get some other colours too. Maybe some tiger shrimp would look good too. There's always a reason to get more tanks. The problem tends to be running out of space.
Once in the blue look perfect
You bought some beautiful Blue Velvet Shrimp. Enjoy.
Yes, thank you!
I recently found an interesting in aquarium shrimp as well. Couldn't decided between yellow or blue. So bought both! And now they bred, I have a bright green shrimp. So happy that my lil breeding experiment, is going good. Plan on moving green ones into a new tank, to create a green jade. If the breeding experiment doesn't turn out in the long hall, then plan on having a green jade tank from purchasing a group of the jades.
Hey MJ! I very rarely make comments on any videos. But you are still by far my favorite channel for aquarium care and aquascaping tips. Your videos just get better and better, and you are a clear speaker, very real, and it's obvious that you enjoy teaching/explaining things in detail. (I've been in the hobby for about 10 years, off and on, but finally getting more into the heavily planted setups.)
I am very interested to know what is your BEST RECOMMENDATION for a carpeting plant (either compact, or shorty/stemmed growth), for a lower tech tank, no cO2. I am starting a few nano shrimp tanks. Due to your inspiration!
I have 3 5Gal (~20L) Marineland Portrait tanks.
They are taller than they are wide, so I need some ideas!
I want a dense carpet, and some good midground, and background plants.
I will be using 2 tall branchy pieces of spider mopani wood as my focal point, and a few stones.
Please name 4-5 plants I should use for foreground, midground, background, and carpet.
This would be SO very much appreciated!
Thanks again MJ! Keep up the amazing work!
Nice work MJ , im gonna start my own aquascaping soon
Great aquascape tutorial 👍🏻
I'm looking at buying those same Eros. I'll be excited to see how yours progress
Amazing cinematic shots at the end uncle MJ! keep up the amazing content!
Thanks! Will do!
I love the blue shrimp ❤️. I have the yellow and absolutely love them. They are itty bitty swimming bananas..that's how yellow mine are...
Love your videos super well edited and really enjoyable to watch
I’m happy you like them!
The blue color of those shrimps against the green plants and gray stones just looks fabulous!!!! Great build MJ!! Definitely will need to add yellows in another tank and then oranges in another too!! You may need another rack system soon!! 😁👍🏻🦐
I need to get a bigger apartment 😂
Amazing store!!! I wish there was stores like this in my area in New Jersey in the US. I’m super jealous!
Really great color choice! I might be biased as I have a Blue Dream tank myself. They’re lovely!
They are!
nice setups
This setup is great. You have such success with your plants. And……your fish store is amazing. I wish we had a store like that here in Southern California . Super weekend to you all 🏄🏼♂️
Thank you Thomas!
Keep up the good work💪 and also the scape looks sick😝
Thanks! 😁
30min build video! What a great way to start the weekend! :D
Enjoy!

Lol
I think blue and yellow would be stunning…
If I had a shelf like that I would absolutely turn it into a betta - shelf 😁 Looking good! 👍
Yeah could be very nice as well!
Hi Mj, what brand of shelf is that?
Nice scape
u should put some cholla wood inside your shrimp tank. Triple challenge : build a transparent bridge to connect both tanks.
Well done nice tank i prefer to wait until the brown diatom settles cause this tells me that the tank still cycling and not matured enough even if ammonia is undectable from my experience
Time to sell those plates to your friend and put in some more tank!
😁😁😁
LOVE the new scape, it looks fantastic and i like the choice to avoid stems. I think the hairgrass and HC cuba will look amazing alongside the crypts.
i've travelled quite extensively throughout the world. While people tend to be negative about america, and everyone thinks everything about their country is better than america, in my experience it is usually not easy to say one way or the other.
however, i will say that the fish shops in europe are FAR FAR better than what we've got... i live in denver with over 2 million people and about 15 fish stores, none of them compare to what i see in europe, and the fish are often sick looking and very small and the plant selections are rarely very good as well. It is strange to me because there are many fish keepers in the city, now i only get fish, shrimp and plants in trade with other fish keepers
great work! I am just starting out with aqua scaping and love your channel! I really like that shelf! Do you happen to have a link for it or make and model? perfect little shelf for these tanks
This is amazing I’m thinking about creating my own. Can you mix different species of shrimp
Very entertaining and informative video. What I'd give to have a store like that one close to me here in UK.😍.
Yeah the store is great! Bad for your wallet though 😁
Love your work well done. The use of grass is great. How would you now create the illusion of a field disappearing into the background I wonder.
Yeah first time using grass like this, will have to see how it develops, and if i still like it after a few months 😊
You should definitely set up a tank for a pair of rams Mark! I have a pair of German blue rams for about 6 months they are some great fish. I was trimming my Monte Carlo carpet this morning and had to use my hand to move them away because they were so interested in what I was doing and getting to close to the scissors for comfort. They have funny little personalities. Also love the rack now wish all tanks! Those blue shrimp are 💙
Yeah sounds like a very fun fish to keep! I might add a pair to the 70L scapers tank! 😊
Either rams or Apistos would be a great choice imo. In my experience rams are more outgoing my Apistos take much longer to get comfortable with me coming up to the tank
Love 🦐!! I have got some rusty OEBT on tap water if you want! Hehe Some caridina also do well in tap water!
I had to google oebt 😅
@@MJAquascaping hehe 😋 orange eyed blue tiger. Some people even have the Sulawesi shrimp on tap water, those shrimp are probably gonna be my next.
That's a good one...
Good day MJ. How many months should aquascape last? Before rescaping.....
That cup technique you use to pour in the shrimps you definitely have from
MD Fishtanks 😂 (still looks very cool dough)
Hahaha yeah definitely stealing some of his tricks 😁
Hi bro! Very very nice aquarium in total! 👍 May I ask, what you add for your tank for startup and every water change?
Beautiful do they deliver the plants in Quebec? thank you
Each tank series is named after a river in Portugal. Douro, Sado etc.
I believe that the sado series has the conventional corners and the Douro series the corners at 45º.
keep the good work
Oh really? that's cool! did not know that!
Bonjour Mj,
Excellente vidéo, comme à chaque fois !
Est il possible d'avoir un lien pour acheter la même étagère ?
ohhhhhh i like this !!
Mark approves! 😎
magnifique . 👍
Love the shelving unit! Where did you find that?
Lmao I couldn’t help but image “creepers” walking by & peaking into a window to check out someone’s Aquascape/aquarium set up. (I know this wasn’t what he meant but just a funny image that came to mind.) Like 👀 wonder what’s going on over here today.
Also don't forget to switch to 4K 😎
What brand of LED lights do you prefer to use?
Really love you brilliant tutorials. Do you not use any heater when you "just" have shrimp in you tank.? :)
Thank you! Indeed no heaters in my shrimp only tanks!
Heel gaaf!
Nic setup… que here did you get that rack ?
Sis, what glue did you use to cover the aquarium glass with glue?
Tropica is also having new plant blue anubias patite
Pretty sure those were not real 😁
Quality brother 👌🏼 as always. What happened to the shrimp you had a while back, like the multicoloured ones?
Should see how many shrimp I’ve got here 😅, Massive colony’s of Blues, Blacks, Red, Orange, just started working on a few little crazy ‘my own’ lines got some crazy looking ones coming out soon 🤞🏼
Thanks mate! You mean the really expensive ones? Yeah they didn't do so well...
That's awesome man, should make some content about that!
can you post a link of what co2 diffuser you use
Hey, I wanted to pitch an idea:
That series of low tech vs high tech tank, what if instead of low tech vs high tech, make everything identical other than one tank have a full light cycle and the other have a siesta cycle?
Ie on for 8 hours on one tank and then on tank 2, on for 4, off for 2, on for 4?
Encylopedia of Aquarium Plants by Peter Hiscock recommends a "siesta".
See the growth difference/algae difference
what method of planting moss.. Painted moss method..?thanks
How many liters soil required for 45X30X30 planted tank (ada amzonia)
What kind of cabinet are you using that allow so many nano tank? Looks awesome.

@@MJAquascaping Roadtrip 😂
I’ve recently brought a 60litre planted aquarium which I think is about 12gallons I have dragon rock, dwarf hair grass, reineckii mini and some anubias nana petite I spent 4 weeks establishing the plants before adding any live stock,
I’ve recently added 15 blue velvet shrimp and 15 red cherry shrimp about a week ago and I never see more then one at a time is this normal ? Or is that a indication that something is wrong ?
Amazing job dude, beautyful tank! Next time go for the yellow ones, they are awesome. I do have four of them, in a mixed tank, together with bloody maries and blacks, one of the females is berried, i cannot wait to see the shrimplets. I used to live in Netherlands, in Leeuwarden, the shops are amazing there, huge selection and great quality, but the prices are pretty high. Is this shop in Amsterdam? Looks like one of the best, that i ever seen, even Hungary has excellent shops, like the Green Aqua.
That's awesome that you used to live in The Netherlands! Where do you live now? This shop is very close to Amsterdam
Do you havind duration on turning on the light? How long ?
Great video! I’m curious do you remove the DIY co2 at night or just leave it on 24/7? Will the shrimp suffer from lack of oxygen when the lights are off?
I always leave it on 24/7 and never remove it. There is enough oxygen coming from the surface movement 😊
Love the scape. I have a question if I may? What was the floating plant you used please?
salvinia auriculata
@@MJAquascaping thank you so much
Hello MJ, nice tank as always. A little envy of your dennerle plants though haha. We don't have such perfect quality here.
So you have hard water there. Me too, it makes my glass covered in white mineral deposits which is not looking great. I have the same HOB Filter as you (but another brand of course). I think the output push the water surface in. Which make my plants covered in dirt or dust from the surface. How did you manage to get clean plants man?
Thank you Agus! Yeah same here... lots of mineral deposit on the glass...
Hmm I don't really get a lot of dirt and dust in the plants. I do keep the water level quite high so the water flow doesn't go very low (if that makes sense)
