      I guess that’s very important. I try too hard when I practice, Kiko is completely relaxed. That’s the secret. Also brushing the strings when you practice with a pick. Be very gentle, less picking more brushing feeling in your picking hand.

    This exercise is helping me so so so much!!!!! The big error I´ve been commiting for years is to press too much. I couldn´t move fast and I have a tendinitis problem in my left hand because of that. Thanks for good advices like this one!!! I,m practicing everyday and starts to improve the pain in my hand and my technique also!!!

    I blame music teachers in middle and high schools for telling people they have to press hard. I have never pressed any harder than necessary to make the note.

      The way to do the same thing is to pick, but immediately rest your pick on the string you just plucked. Try it out. Instead of letting the string ring out, almost mute it with your pick as soon as you pluck it. That will train you again in minimal effort on the picking hand.

    Oh, I have admit that is one of the greatest discovery I've made. How hard you press the string against fret is actually really important and what I've noticed this excercise also helps a lot with a tone clarity. Thank You so much for such a great and smart advice!

    Great exercise Kiko. I've been doing this for years. in fact was doing it last night with my quickest playing to get even quicker, then applied that little extra pressure for good notes. It really works.

      very subtly his pinky (small end finger) is anchored onto the guitar; some players anchor on the bridge area...minimise arm movement and work out an anchor method that suits...

      @@kusangtamang846 ok, put your hand to your laptop screen and cover his picking hand/wrist area - now take note of how much his elbow moves - it doesn't (barely). You need to practice - repetitively for a few weeks at least. The fast picking stuff is called alternate picking and it is impossible to do in a controlled manner without an anchor.

      @@kusangtamang846 I haven't seen you play, so keep that in mind, but you generaly don't pick from the arm/elbow or shoulder. You need to learn to use your fingers(That are holding the pick) and the wrist.

    Kiko, thank you so much for this. I have been trying so long to have a soft touch. I tend to muscle the guitar, I'm always tense and it has really gotten me stuck. I'm not progressing farther, and that's why. You explained it and demonstrated it so well. Thank you thank you thank you.

    Right hand exercise to go around the Floyd Rose standard microtuner design, like the guitar in this video. THe first time I saw you playing this guitar I noticed how incredible your right hand anchoring is. Of course I had to struggle with the Edge Trem first( I have an RG)

    Since you are so good still you ask for a suggestions from everyone. And I salute you for that. Because I do that as well.... there are lots of very young very good guitarist on both classical and rock .... and those kids amazes me every time.     I do have a concern about this one, though. Pressing hard enough to have the note play out cleanly is going to be different depending on string gauge, guitar scale length, string height, etc. I just want to point out that if you want to be able to play any guitar, or even yours if you decide to set it up differently at some point, definitely think of having a little bit of headroom in terms of strength training. That is, don't just aim to press as lightly as possible with your current instrument, but either try to learn this with a stiffer setup or by pressing a bit harder than necessary so you don't have issues with this.

    After years of playing acoustic guitar, I found it so hard to press lightly on my electric guitar, so glad to find this video.
