The first one is really important to know. People who create sick character montages often have to get hard reads on the opponent, which requires fundamental knowledge of the game to know how to do.
Step 1 is so true, so many people try to play so technical then they die to something so simple. You'd be surprised to see how often it even happens to good players as well
I'm starting to get good compared to my friends but how I keep me ego in check is that I remember the time I fought Sillintor on stream and went 0-2 without taking a single stock and remind myself, "I am bad at this game" and realize that you don't win by pure mashing, you win by making your opponent look dumb. Thanks for that.
I mean, Sillintor is like crazy good at this game and all of its characters so I'm sure you are good or can at least improve more if you are aiming to beat Sillintor
I think of a friend I had back in the days of Melee. He mained Link, and I mained Falco. This kid would only ever use two attacks -- Up Special and Dair -- and got upset any time I handed him his ass. I told him straight up that he needs to use other moves, to which he would reply, "But those are Link's strongest attacks!" Yes, they are strong. They're also very punishable if you don't land them, and they're predictable af when they're the only two moves you wanna use. He did eventually learn from his mistakes, hahaha.
Oooooh i needed to set my ego aside. I try not to have one, but I've just kind of crushed a lot of friends and got hyped up and felt like I had an expectation to live up to - and when I got crushed after finally getting online, it was a massive blow. For a long time I just kept grinding technique after technique against lvl8/9 cpu because i felt i wasn't good enough for people yet. It is hard for me to go back into a competitive rank mindset because i care too much. I don't rage, i just care and get disappointed and shy away from things - but I love this game and don't want to do that. Your videos have honestly helped me realize GSP truly doesn't matter and if I want to have fun, I gotta set that aside and play some people. I don't have any expectations, I just wanna enjoy the game vs people again.
Was a cool way to teach us what all need to do to improve in SSBU, after all we need to remember to have fun while playing and enjoy the results we reach after several training with our mains ❤
while we're here, here's a good tip for people trying to learn characters with the intent of getting them to elite DELAY GOING ON QUICKPLAY the gsp loss while you're still picking up the basics will be staggering
Although most of these are very simple, they are great reminders that motivated me to look at smash more positively! :) I'm pretty positive overall, but I can get frustrated quickly in certain matchups, and I toss it up to "I'm bad" which isn't helpful in the slightest, so yea! Good bideo! :)
Me 10 minutes ago: " Damn I lost to Sillin in viewerbattles again. I dont even wanna rewatch how I played, because I am just gonna get pissed about it." Me after watching the video:"Hell yeah, lets rewatch my stupid gameplay and become a GIGACHAD player."

I agree with a lot of these. Sometimes fundamentals is sooo essential. I had a small Diddy problem back in the day. Studied when they pulled banana and always never let them pull it for free if I am able to. However in offline, I would lab how I can catch banana and use it to my advantage. Nothing more satifying than winning a stock or game by grabbing banana thrown at me using pickup animation, then immediately throwing it back and getting my own fsmash. Became really good at catching items using the pick up animation. Sometimes nothing puts more fear in an opponent than catching their item and quickly reversing the situation. At the time, the Diddy player simply gave up trying to go for bananas because I actually would use the banana more effectively and I wouldn't have to worry about that. From a fellow Link main.
Just got finished getting tilted and discouraged playing online. Thanks for the reminders Sillin! (Also, remember that GSP and how good you are online does not correlate very well with how you are offline)
I feel like "any tips" can be an annoying question but can also be useful after a play session with someone better than you. They'll probably have noticed some habits that you have or strategies that work against you when they have easy counterplay or things along those lines, so it's not always the worst question to ask, especially if you don't know which areas you're struggling with specifically, even though you know you are losing.
If you're playing a session I think you should state beforehand that you want tips as well. For example when I play then I just play for fun and forget everything instantly (it's not that I don't want to help, it's just that I can't help), however if somebody is asking me before the session to give them tips afterwards, I specifically look out for it more. Also I count a session like yours more to a "private coaching" (or bootcamp) type of thing when players already have the intention of helping each other out. The question "any tips" is in this case more of a "conversation starter" (Like "I'm ready to discuss my mistakes now") rather than a genuine question.
Hello sillin hope you have a amazing day thank you for the guy and i want to apply this to my gameplay to eventually be the best smash player at my school (i play little mac but im getting there)
Step 1 and I already failed: even with lan adapter my matches usually lag so much game either ignores me trying to walk and not dash, or it perceives input like I did dash anyway)
I have the same damn problem with Skullgirls mobile. It's an rpg fighting game, everyone has a different mechanic despite being the same character (say a defensive Peacock or an attacking Peacock). And when someone ask "Tips for [A certain variant of the character]?" they just repeat what said variant abilities do. Even worse when someone says "Is this good?" and they say "Yes". I get often attacked and labeled as toxic just by proving them wrong and really explaining how would a character can be useful, but they just want a "Yes/No" for an answer and later on complain claiming people didn't gave good advice. You just need to read and learn.
This video has very good content and mr is quite useful but I have a question Mr. Silintor, what character could I use against characters that use projectiles? Since I always lose in brackets or pools with those characters 😅
I still get pissed when people say ask good questions or specfic questions Cuz it puts up a barrier for u answering a question or even having a convo with the person. When i first started competing tf i what spefic question am i gonna ask I dont know the type of questions i should ask . I dont know whats fundies are idk how to improve in these situations that I CANT EVEN SEE And most people are not there. The good thing is that i went to a more or less smart school in which people know how to learn quickly. And yes literally my first questions when i got into competitions was is there any way i can improve after losing. If thats the case then that person should be assumed a beginner . In which you can give them a bunch of scenarios. As what my friends did shoot they even asked if i wanted to come over and grind out some of the stuff i dont know. Then i used that info into now knowing certain aspects of the game into asking more critical questions. Sometimes you dont even know the right wording to ask a question BUT YOU KNOW IT EXISTS!! That is why there is no dumb question. Yes asking good questions help for improvement but not for beginners. Or people that are casual looking into going competitive
"Any tips?" will always be a lazy and bad question no matter what. It tells me NOTHING about the player. If somebody is a beginner they can ask "any tips for somebody who just started playing Smash?". With this question I can help more and tell others to watch guide xy on youtube for example as a starting point, because they included their "level" as a player. But I get the question "any tips" from beginners, mid level competitors AND high level competitors, and I ain't gonna tell a high level competitor to watch a beginner guide on youtube when they already know that stuff.
after this video, I thought about finding a discord server or something that will have more skilled players for me to practice against. The rest of the tips are also great though
I main Ganon, and when I saw "reconsider your character choice", I knew exactly who he was gonna call out. By the way, how do you move in with ganon against fast characters like fox and sonic? Do I just need to make better use of spacing and side b?
zone, going in is for the clips here’s a setup that should get u started: loid rocket to full hop forward air to cover both the ground and air just know if you’re too close to place the loid rocket your opponent can run in and grab you, to create space you should use your fair to keep them out and once they’re being passive, start using the rocket
It's weird that I have a terrible advantage state but an amazing disadvantage state. I can make it back on stage playing little mac against Samus, but I can't keep a combo going for more than 40%. Whar?
any tips for life? jk, mmm yes improving by studying what your doing and understanding why its working or not working in the most analytical sense, works for smash bros, competitive games, games in general, hell even life in general.
Howdy! The characters I recommend would be Pit, Dark pit, Palutena or Lucina. Those three have straight forward move sets to help you learn the basics in smash ultimate without getting overwhelmed. Good luck!
Izaw’s Art of Smash on RUclips is good if you wanna learn basics, and practice these things. The basics that Izaw shows are absolutely necessary to become a better player. The fastest way to improve is by focusing on one thing at a time, for example if you’re playing Palutena try to get kills with RAR bairs for a week to get the hang of it. Then after a week of that you might be good at RAR bairs. Practice everything in training mode then apply it into real matches vs people, that’s how I recommend you learn the basics.
