    Fun watch guys, thanks so much! Felipe, your forehand was very solid with very few errors until later in the second set. I agree with Nik, some really confident attacking forehands and your backhand was excellent. Your forehand is your sword and your backhand is your shield and you definitely played with that type of mind set. I thought that your serve looked really good when you stayed aggressive with your swing. Definitely noticed that when you faulted on second serves your racquet decelerated and caused timing and contact problems. In the second set it looked like your toss was more erratic on first serves, too many tosses on top of your head instead of more in front. I feel your pain as many do. When I’m having problems with my serve it definitely starts to affect the rest of my game negatively as well. Really impressive play overall! Keep running the hard yards, it’s looks like it’s paying off!

    Great content Nik! I love hitting against the wall, though I rarely see anyone else doing it any more 😢. Thanks for reminding folks how it’s done! Felipe played great but Nik, though your serve started a little slow, once it got warmed up it was 🔥 After a few games into the second set I was feeling sorry for Felipe when you were serving. Very nice! Tons of great forehands, you returned really well, and I even saw the two hander sneak out a couple times. I remember one rally in particular when Felipe had you in the backhand cage and your two hander was so solid you were able to get back onto your forehand and eventually win the point. I’m sure that slice backhand up the line felt pretty good too. Bravo sir! You definitely still got it!

    Felipe is looking like a beast at times throughout the vid. One can clearly hear by the sound of the contact alone, that his weight of shot is tons heavier than before. His athletic ability and the dramatically increased intensity+precision of footwork starts to remind me of David Ferrer somehow. That "wall" type of movement combined with his fast, flat topspin whippiness can make him a SUPER nasty opponent to play against, if he gets his nerves under control al little bit more, I think. You'll be like "Damn, he gets everything and when he plants on a weak shot he can rip it, so I'm f***** !"
    PS: Nice audio quality and aesthetically pleasing visuals on this video.

    Hey Nick, I’m looking for some advice on my coaching. I’m wanting to incorporate more slow motion video analysis as well as comparison with pro examples to help my students develop their strokes. Obviously all the pros have fantastic technique but they have such different styles- what player(s) would you recommend I compare my students to that would best help them know where to improve on, especially for the major strokes (forehand, backhand, serve, etc)? Thanks!

    • @IntuitiveTennis
      @IntuitiveTennis  6 месяцев назад +1

      Hey Joshua
      Style vs Fundamentals is super important regarding coaching and especially video analysis. I spent years studying strokes to understand the important difference btw style and fundamentals. The research is simple but tedious: you look at what the best players do excactly the same and what they do differently. Of course you have to keep in mind that strokes can vary depending on the circumstances that players find themselves in. I’ve made some RUclips vids on this topic (will make more) and of course this info is available for purchase on my website especially in my video analysis masterclass and coaching certification.

    I disagree. Felipe's transformation between the match on days 1 and 5 is huge, especially new 2nd (kick) serve and creating pressure on Nick in rallies that hadn't happened before. The backhand lacks a follow through occasionally, but regardless a very good shot. The forehand seems more polished as it was the main thing to fix (footwork issues and not enough spin). In my eyes, he is a different player. Just don't know if you are honest with those 5 days. I'd guess something like a month of training to get there.

  • @thefridgeman
    @thefridgeman 7 месяцев назад +1

    Very annoying grunting when serving or 1-2 seconds after hitting.
    Weird wrist position (open) and moving when serving (explains all those double faults, etc).
    Very uncoordinated and rushed. He never settles during and exchange, even when given time and lower pace (and Nick gave him PLENTY during these two sets).
    Never freely hitting, always there is a snag or a shortened move.
    He can move but can't translate this in court coverage or better placement.
    The wall exercise (10 hits inside that square) showed how "random" or "aleatory" his forehand is (his "better" stroke), no forehand was near the one before it (shape, speed, etc).
    Overall, shows that the level of this training is way above his current needs/requirements, he actually needs to go down 1-2 steps and work a lot on stroke shaping (hand fed balls) and moving/setting into a position exercises, with video analysis. Also, I would ditch the Wilson and get a Pure Aero or a Vcore 100 with very low poly tension or even poly in hybrid with multi filament. He is nowhere near constant enough to play with poly.
    The video looked more like a "10 day transformation of Nick"...who went from strongly playing the original test set (4 weeks ago) to ...this. Too many UE, even double faults...very uncharacteristic for him.
    Finally, I enjoy playing against players like Felipe. They can be easily dragged into a slug fest which ends up in a festival of UE on his side. Also, very weak returning. Good placed serves = free and easy points. As in, 4 serves = 4 direct points.
    But, you can't help but praise his enthusiasm and desire to improve. So, keep trying and exercising.

I agree some coaches seem a bit too keen on moving their students on to doing more challenging activities as soon as possible and as soon as they see the student isn't completely hopeless. HOWEVER this is often what students want and expect. The gentleman in this video may well have asked for exactly what he got.
