You can definitely get injured on a wet court.
Yep - there’s nothing like hitting heavy water soaked balls for arm health!
😂
This is EXTREMELY HELPFUL advice, Nick. I had blown out my shoulder because of serves last year - had to rest for 6 months. And even after that I am again feeling a little pain again while serving last week. Now I know the issue is TECHNIQUE. I am not warmed up enough and my contact point is above my head…. Wish i had seen this video earlier. Thanks Nick 🙏
🙏
I can relate to late forehand destroying a shoulder. Recently, I played an evening match with very bad lighting. I could not see the ball properly and was late with preparation and was late with my forehand. Next 3-4 days I couldn't lift my arm more than 45 degrees as my shoulder was killing me. This is an excellent series about injuries caused by the incorrect technique. If only you did that a month earlier :) , it would save me few days of pain as I wouldn't play in bad lighting. Lesson learned!
Great video. I have noticed/ had a similar shoulder issue with serving in the past but didnt know exactly the problem only the gist. My shoulder would hurt only during serves/ overheads but would be fine everywhere else so the solution would be not to serve or play points. It sucks as serving practice is important and there's only one way to gain match experience
Find a solution 🙏
I got a shoulder impingement when I first started with tennis due to poor technique on my serve and forehand, it was nearly 8 weeks of not being able to lift my arm above my head.
Very useful video, that was 2 of the most uncomfortable and annoying months I’ve ever experienced
thank you Nick, you are best!
🙏
Amazing the serve tip. Ultra good! appreciated. I have been facing shoulder issues since I have decided to smash the ball more in my serve and the comment about the contact point is clearly an issue I have. I'll try to record myself to improve this. Thanks!
Thanks very much!
Can you do about wrist injury at serve. Thanks for this and future videos
Great video Nick, thank you! 😀😀
My pleasure! Thank u Hans
Great video and good timing for me. I hurt my shoulder when practicing serve a few days ago and have to rest up for a week and see how it recovers. Will keep these great tips in mind for future trainings. Thanks.
I have also found that while it doesn't "blow my shoulder out", poor contacts on the serve leave me with a sore shoulder perhaps from the additional vibration and also from "forcing" the contact if my ball toss or timing are poor.
Serve waiter's tray and using the shoulder for power instead of long axis rotation are also very dangerous for the shoulder.
i experimented with a forehand style that relies a lot on wrist for extra topspin for a few months and at one point i had to save a ball that landed almost past my body and it fucked up my wrist for the next six months... sometimes it's hard to realize it's bad technique until something goes wrong
Be careful
How can I schedule a private class ? Is it possible ?
nice video
Re the slice serve on the deuce court, I studied Pete Sampras. So, I cannot toss the balll slightly to the right and hit it, doesn't feel right. I toss the ball slightly to the left and come over the ball with slice, perhaps it adds a bit of topspin as well. When the ball pitches it takes off a bit. I also have a good slider on the ad court.
Going through shoulder pain right now, not sure if its just muscle pain or something else in upper side of the arm. What exercise would you recommend for fastest recovery?
What do you think of Shift racquets? Their stiffness rating is relatively high (68) and has an L version which is 285 grams.
Leaning in too fast on the flat serve did me in.
Can you speak on the characteristics of rackets and strings for people with shoulder problems?
@sbgtrev racquets and strings are less likely the main culprit for shoulder issues, but generally high string tensions in conjunction with low power strings, racquets that feel too heavy, and dead balls can contribute to any type of arm pain including the shoulder.
Apart from all techniques, a good reminder for all of us: WARM UP! We adults really need it - don't compare ourselves to our school kids anyway :(
I tend to hunch my shoulder during the serve, and after a match, I feel it. I try to stay more loose, but it's often also caused by nervous tension that is difficult to control. I am still trying to find a solution...
Will the knees be next?
Could be…
2nd this. Knees are so important
Are there any risks with having a ball toss that is too in front?
A jacknife serve is not healthy for the arm, shoulder is somewhat protected while the wrist is exposed to hyper extension
@@IntuitiveTennis oh ok thanks
@@IntuitiveTennis I just sometimes have issues with the ball toss being too in front of
Physio speaking here. Actually you could argue there is a higher risk for impingement - because if you throw the ball forward you will not have good extension in your (thoracic) spine - in other words , you will likely be a little hunched over rather than arching backwards. But arching backwards is very important to have full shoulder mobility for overhead movements.
What about serving so hard that the elbow feels the pain inside the bone. The speed force makes it hurt.
Physical therapy is your best friend if you are an active individual that pushes themselves.
I stopped playing Tennis because of shoulder pain years ago...
Getting kimura’ed in mma definitely messed up my tennis. If you are serious tennis player, don’t do mma or bjj
Is that a Big Bubba?
Small bubba 117
I’m guessing you’re using the bubba just for this video when you demonstrate the incorrect techniques so you don’t hurt yourself doing them since bubba is forgiving
