    My son and I went guided hog hunting this past March 2024 for the first time and rented the rifle (we had shotguns with slugs but felt it better to use a rifle).
    ONE Grendel round went through two hogs (just behind the ear on the first sow and into the boar's heart behind it) and killed both; it was not an fmj round. This was at maybe 60-80 yards kneeling down free hand through the brush. I only say this because I want to give all the info.
    Originally, we were going to use 300 Blackout, but the guide talked us into the Grendel (and we were open to new things). Now, totally sold on it.

    I like it too. Grateful for your content. I have an ar15 chambered in grendel w 18” barrel. Very accurate! Ive only taken one deer with it but it performed well. Same 123gr sst.
    I tried the CZ 527 in 6.5
    Grendel. I really liked the little mini mauser action. Unfortunately the sampling I had was terribly inaccurate…as in 4-5” groups. Had to sell it. Id like to try the Howa. I like the idea of having a “mini” action.

    I'm real close to ordering an upper in the 6.5 Grendel for my AR. Thanks for the advise!

      @@Theolddeerhunters Heck yeah man! I’d love to shoot a hog. We have big bucks here in Indiana. Guess I should be happy. Just got into coyote hunting too.

    Love the 6.5 Grendel! Shoot 90 grain Nosler Varmageddon on yotes and Hornady 123 ELD Black on hogs but ammo is extinct where I live. Guess reloading is where its at for me.

    Want to buy an AR15 upper in Grendel but PSA is bumping $2 on the not really available ammunition. My 308 SFAR ammo is cheaper than Grendel by a long shot . I wanted the Grendel for a do it all platform for our AR15s . At this point I’m leaning towards a Valkyrie .

      Grendel is a little more than 224 because of larger caliber. Not much difference with same quality bullets.

      Bear Creek has some really nice uppers for dirt cheap.

    I'm interested in using lead free bullets like Barnes in a 90 or 100gr... Little lighter faster and keeping all the weight to drive through

    • @Theolddeerhunters
      @Theolddeerhunters  Год назад

      Very good choice. They are great for hogs in any caliber. Just expensive.

      @@Theolddeerhunters my thoughts were basically a do everything round. From coyotes, hogs to deer. One load one zeroing to cover everything. Second choice would be a nosler partition 100gr.
      The added speed of dropping the weight combined with a premium bullet really has my interest in 6.5 grendel. I need to play with some loads but I don't see a down side of picking up speed with a bullet that will stay together

    • @Theolddeerhunters
      @Theolddeerhunters  Год назад

      @@andystampfli9127 the only down side is lower sectional density with lighter bullets. Should not be problem with copper bullets like the Barnes, but would go with 125 Partition.

    We've yet to kill anything with ours so far. That said my little daughter can shoot it very good as her first centerfire rifle. It's a radical arms ar, and she weighs less than 50 lbs. Her shooting is off of a bench so far

    That 2580 fps is out of a 24-inch barrel. From an 18-inch barrel, it's more like 2430 fps. Supersonic is to 1050 yards in that case, and it carries 1000 F*P energy to 325 yards.
