@Shades So what? That doesn't diminish the story of the film or the emotional impact of the line. Most movies are BS anyway. The movie Amadeus presents us with a completely fictitious rivallry between Mozart and Salieri and conveniently ignores the fact that Salieri was a much more popular composer in Vienna. The truth is often boring and in order to have dramatic resonance in art you have to fudge the facts a little. Even Shakespeare did it.

It makes sense it would be him. Back in the ol west you had to constantly change your name and appearance and be on the run constantly if you were a criminal or falsely accused as one. I believe billy was so traumatized by the constant running and seeing his friends die that at the turn of the century and as technology and society evolved, he couldn't. He was stuck in forever armed and ready mode. And he saw the changes as distractions and opportunities for any surviving enemies of his to jump and gun him down. Fear of death from the unknown will keep a man living as long as he can.

He knew he was coming to an end and wanted to make amends for all he had done. After being denied the chance he gave up this life, still unconquered. The simple solution, do the DNA test and see if he was telling the truth unless you know he was (telling the truth) and you all don't want to rewrite an already flawed and false history. either way, I don't know a 90-year-old that desperate for attention.

All it was were 5 sworn affidavits by 2 of Brushy friends and 3 other people claiming to have been friends of Billy the Kid and Brushy was Billy the Kid. None of them had any historical connection with the real Billy the Kid. Doc and Chavez lived to be old men and not once did Billy the Kid write a letter telling them that he was still alive. But 1 thing he did have, was all of the known scars that billy had. Including several bullet wounds. Now, im all for dedication to a bit, but I dont know many people that would shoot themselves or be shot to recreate that level of detail. Also pat garret not verifying the body after he shot him really stands out as odd. Thus was billy the kid, new Mexico public enemy number 1, you'd think that a US Marshall would parade it around a bit and provide some form of evidence to his superiors, plus several witnesses including 1 of the deputies there at the maxwell house later discredited his claim of killing billy. Personally, after extensive research, brushy bill has a small chance of being billy the kid, but not zero. Coupled with the fact that Garrett kept getting into trouble because of his own incompetence at times, I could beleive that he shot the first man to enter the room, and upon seeing it wasn't billy hastily covered it up to save his own skin.

Poe's "The Death of Billy the Kid" at first he told Pat he couldn't of killed Billy, but when they lit the candle and it was Billy's corpse on the floor. After Mckinney died there were a few stories by alleged relatives. One story McKinney shot the wrong guy on Maxwell's porch. Another story Pat shot the wrong guy in the room of Maxwell's house. The other story was McKinney, Poe and Pat tied up Paulita Maxwell to lure Billy the Kid into the room and then Pat shot him.

Thanks for telling me you don't actually know anything. Henry McCarty, AKA William H Bonney was the only party to the Lincoln County War _to not be pardoned._ He had attempted to become "a law abiding citizen" by 1879. Billy wanted to be done with his outlaw life. However Governer Lou Wallace was intent on making an example out of him because Billy had made him out to be a fool. The war against Billy was personal, not legal.
I reiterate, at least 5 men who personally knew the kid testified that Brushy Bill was him. As opposed to Pat Garrett, who had financial reasons to insist he killed Billy.
Brushy Bill was the real deal. It's a travesty he wasn't recognized and pardoned.

You do realize that, while based on a factual event, the movie is not a documentary? There really was a Brushy Bill that claimed to be William Bonney. The rest of the movie is fiction.

@@raindogs Yep there was a man going by the name of Brushy Bill Roberts who claimed to Billy the Kid, but he and his friends were just story tellers and pretenders. If it wasn't for Young Guns II it would be Brushy Who?

@@attilathehun0 Not true at all. I knew who he was long before the movie came out. Anyone that has read anything about western outlaws knew who he was. I was born just 10 years after he died and the subject was still being debated well into the 60s.

@@raindogs Brushy was long forgotten by most folk. Putting up a fake museum and a few hokey books about Brushy and changing his tombstone before Young Guns 2 came out does not change anything. Young Guns resurrected Brushy from the grave. I am old and I have a dad and he was a round back in the 1950's and Brushy was seen as a joke by most and was forgotten by many until Young Guns II. My dad didn't bring up Brushy until last year. I don't care if there was small circle in 1965 arguing about Brushy being BTK. He was not widely known throughout America in the 1960's-1980's. I know because I was there. Maybe where you're from some people knew the Brushy story, but not where I'm from. After the 1955 book a lot of people forgot. I don't care if there was obscure TV episode about him in the late 80's either. Young Guns brought him back and that's a fact! Go the Real Billy!

@@attilathehun0 Opinions vary. Not everyone looks at the world the same way. Brushy Bill is a glorified McGuffin for the move. It isn't really what the movie is about, even though it bookends it. When all is said and done, it's a movie, not a documentary.
