Picked up a nice used one. Appears to be an early one, no selector switch. I had no instruction and can't get it to open. Hate to force it, but open to input here.
That was the entire problem with the early ones- they were a bitch to open. So much so that T/C made a change. If it were me, I'd call T/C and tell them about it. Possibly they'll take care of the problem for you. I owned two of them after the "fix" and never had a problem. I hear people talk of Gen 1 and Gen 2, but I don't know what that is. As far as I recall, the "fix" was not a generation thing. If the darn video ever finishes loading and I can watch it, maybe I'll learn something.
A good video, I have the early model contender, frame was Cerakot and the supermag barrel was magna -porta and duracoated many many years ago. I also have a Encore that I sued for black powder 12ga and 50cal. I thought about getting a G2 contender but began to ask myself why, I have a Encore. I love their product
I have ear phones that i listen through so my family can hand our in the same room and not have to listen to gun reviews all night, but....the audio sounds like a table of vikings eating those big turkey legs and chewing with their mouths open. At 4:29, you even hear his stomach rumble. Hilarious. Great video as always.
Great stuff Marty!!! Love my new pro hunter turkey gun. Btw thanks for next daying her to my FFL!!! Next she’ll get a .50 cal muzzleloader barrel and a 30-06 barrel...
Because vid was quiet, had to turn the volume up. The whole time in the background it sounds like someone is chewing gum with their mouth open. However, thanks for the vid.
Do you not recommend using a G1 frame then for certain rifle calibers? I have a 223 Rem and 45/70 barrel in addition to several pistol caliber barrels.
J.D.Jones and others pushed limits of the Contender with their wildcatting and were probably the biggest reasons the Encore came to be. But I'd like to hear what you have to say regarding the Kendrick Contender.
Good to know the differences. I am very familiar with the Encore and Pro Hunter series, having owned Encores since the mid 90s, but was not as well versed in the Contender variants.
I've got a question for anyone out there. I just purchased a original contender rifle barrel in 22 hornet, it has only one forearm attachment stud all my other barrels have two.
Hi Can you tell me ,is the contender firing pin bushing the same dimensions as the encore bushing, in other words can i use an encore bushing in my contender . Thanks Steve
Not sure what you were listening to but I in no way said that encores and Contenders were interchangeable, AND not all G2 barrels work on G1 frames that depends on the revision level of the frame. They will lock up but will not open without being disassembled. Marty
Thanks Marty great video. I have a contender that was my Dad's and I purchased the rifle stocks from you guy's and I'm very pleased! I think also that the old style G1 contender frames with sierial numbers after 195,000 will work with all new barrels.
Fellow Contender historian here. For the record, there was never a thing called the "G1". T/C just calls it the Contender (though many customers have used the term). There were also several variants within it, not all of which had the engraving on the side. The original were flat faced, for example. Most of us Contender fans still prefer the late-model original Contender due to its superior trigger, particularly for silhouette shooting.
On an Encore there is only one firing pin and that is for centerfire. Therefore on an Encore rimfire barrel the chamber is offset so that centerfire pin hits the rim. TC used to make rimfire barrels for the Encore but stopped 5-6 years ago. Aftermarkets are available but very expensive. If you want rimfire you are better off with a G1 or G2 Contender. Marty
It sounds like the cameraman has a feed bag on.

@@fastbullet7301 Thanks so much, a useful suggestion.

It WAS a bit gross! Finish eating, ... then do your camera work.

Glad to hear you are satisfied!
Hey Marty, nice to put a face to the name. I've bought a couple barrels from the Haus and I'm very happy with them.
Very helpful. Thanks.

Shawn, Not sure what that sound is, but thank you for bringing it to our attention.
Great info Marty. Learned something new today.
I have wondered how to tell the difference from the G1 from the G2 for years. Had mine since 1984.

For the grips are they generation specific or are they interchangeable
Steven Baker The grips are platform specific.

We sell the single hole forends for the Contender. Feel free to call: 636-359-0104. Thanks!
thank you. I am thinking of a 7.62x39 (.310) barrel for a G2.
Contact me I have one! Marty

This video was informative and hilarious
I’d like to have a camo pistol grip like he has on the G1. Are any available?
Thank you for that info….
Very interesting!
Thank you.
Great info love my pro hunter that I bought from you.
Can you cheek weld that weird looking grip?
This is the clear explanation I had been waiting for, much thanks. Any chance you can tell us what an "SSK-50" is from your website?
The SSK50 is the reintroduction of the original G1 Contender by another company. Lehigh Defense. Marty
Thanks.,.
Everyone quit your whining bunch of trolls enjoy the video very informative thanks Marty good job

How does the Encore hammer work for rimfire?

@@HausofArms Thanks for the reply Marty. I guess I should keep the 15" .17HMR I have for my Encore. Any news on the new frames?
@@MrRonro66 progress is being made but no dates. Marty
He said in 1867! Didn't he mean 1967?
What are you talking about? G2s and First Generation Contender barrels are interchangeable. Encores and Contenders are not.
I thought he did a fine job at explaining that in the video
22mag Thompson contender
Good info! My husband knows the differences but i did not!
1867? I don't think so.
Wait… was Nancy Pelosi the cameraman?
Just kidding. Informative video. Thanks for posting
1867 hmmm…
Did Mike B approve this video?
Great vid except for the gum slapping, very annoying! I would bet money it's his wife
Jesus fuck is the cameraman chewing gum? Great info but I kept getting side tracked for I am simple that noise is infuriating. Great video thanks
Jesus Christ the gum chewing is disgusting
Thanks for listening. Marty
