    I personally really enjoyed us being able to see the effects of holy symbols through the eyes of an afflicted vampire in this game, really grants context to why they react so violently in their presence.
    Perfectly fine with the aspect of religious influence on vampirism, provided the setting has a good reason at the root of it, such as one of the more common interpretations being that vampirism was a curse by (a) God on some biblical(/religious text's) character, who in turn was the progenitor of the entire condition, or a historical figure directly blaspheming and declaring godly forces as their enemy due to said deity's apathy to the plight of pious mortals toiling in their name (Brahm Stoker's Vlad Dracul). Each of these, and many others, are intrinsically tied with religion and are supernaturally influenced, and for those who enjoy that sort of thing, it invites a wealth of orbiting lore through common mythological knowledge.
    Ideally, a work would be capable of providing the audience with an outlet for both the religious aspect, and the science aspect, with the more pious characters abdicating from scientific explanations and finding guidance in their faith, while the affluent scholar characters go Dr. Frankenstein / Jekyll in their attempts to quantify the "sickness" with their knowledge of worldly science. The series Penny Dreadful is a ready example of how you can incorporate both into a narrative, even if ultimately the show was unmistakably supernatural.

      From what I have seen so far, only the genuinely religious have been able to use Holy Symbols against me.

    it isn't the religious object that the vampires fear it is the spiritual force that the presenter of the object,
    a non-christian showing a cross has no effect,
    but a Jew could use a Jewish star would have the same effect as a christian with a cross

      It turns up a lot in Vampire the Masquerade, people channelling their faith through an object that they hold as religiously significant.

    Vampires are supernatural so is religion. Breaks immersion? Because you hate religion? xD

      Vinder HD There's isn't a connection thats been established in this game. Why would a mini replica of a Roman torture device cause harm to a vampire?

    • @VinderHD
      @VinderHD 6 лет назад +11

      One because in MOST older vampire lore crosses garlic holy water sun light etc always have negative effects on vampires.
      They just established the connection with that scene, there was nothing saying it was a biological type virus before that scene either.

    I like how every single comment focused on Cohh's opinion about religion, specifically a Christian one, being made the weakness of vampires lol.

    It isn’t about religion...well it is but it isn’t. It isn’t the fact that god is *Making* it happen, it’s that the user adamantly believes it will happen, for example, if you do something every single day thinking something will happen, there will likely be an effect.

      That's the explanation in Vampire: The Masquerade and World of Darkness. We don't actually know if that's true in this game, though. You're talking about True Faith. The "holy" symbol, in this case the crucifixion cross, isn't the source of our Protagonist's discomfort, even though it is the focus of attention. It's the faith of the wielder that causes the weakness, and the symbol is merely a conduit to direct and focus their intent. But True Faith is actually very rare, and isn't necessarily limited to Faith in God or a God/Goddess. Someone could have True Faith in an individual they met in their life or True Faith in a concept or ideal. Or even True Faith in themselves. It is a measure of conviction and force of will. Which kinda makes me skeptical that it is the same in this game, because I find it hard to believe that Swansea possesses True Faith.

      Gus I mean that's vampires. I don't know what Cohh's talking about because vampires being "biological" and not supernatural has only been a thing in recent fiction. Also biological vampires can never do the more magical abilities like turning into smoke and controlling the blood in their body.

      I dunno, depends, in Vampire the masquerade religious signs are more psychological than anything else as far as I remember. If it's that way in Vampyr I would be fine with it.

      Aelelisevar If it affects them the same way what difference does it make? Not trying to be rude, honestly asking for your opinion.

      totally understands that, I am surprised by cohh''s statement. he also later voices his preference for the vampire's weakness to be against silver rather than christ. totally uncomprehensible one being from superstition and the other religion what difference does it make ? his biological thingy does not make much sense either

    • @mattp3736
      @mattp3736 6 лет назад

      Gus I don't get it. I don't really believe in religion but I also don't believe in vampires so if I can suspend my disbelief for the living dead that feed on the lifeblood of humans I can believe that there is a God that is opposed to their existence.

    It's quiet enough that I cant hear the NPC dialog but somehow still way too loud when you decide to YELL into the mic. Besides that, cool stream as always!

    religion makes Vampirism: vamps being supernatural is more fun. vampire the masquarde did it great. not the religion, but the human belief in it hurts them.

  • @OsamaBinLooney

    i think supernatural vamps are a LOT more interesting, it's the ultimate battle between good and evil, light and darkness, heaven and hell
    when everything can be explained away with science it takes away all the mystery
    and besides i believe the original Dracula was created when he made a deal with the Devil
    religion and belief on one god or another has been around as long as civilization has been, so including it is hardly the game pushing a christian message
    although on the other hand when it comes to zombies i definitely prefer science zombies over undead ones
    since zombies aren't really meant to be "scary" so much it's more the threat of being eaten alive, but the zombies themselves aren't scary like vampires are
    that being said, playing Dead Island for the first time solo player, was pretty damn scary LOL

    It's interesting to me that Cohh "can't stand" when religion is mixed with vampirism.. he seems vehemently opposed to it, saying it kills all immersion to him.. I love Cohh, but it is interesting to me he feels that way. I know he isn't the only one.. but we can all agree that vampirism is fictional, yes? Even Cohh states earlier "I wonder what version of vampirism they'll go with in this game" in relation to how people are "turned".. so he knows it's fictional. He knows there are even different rules within this fictional concept that can be applied differently as needed for story.. he believes that Christianity is fictional as well.. so much so he hates when it is used as a fundamental mechanic or truth within a game.. so my question then is why can he be immersed and easily accept one fiction, but not another? Which isn't me agreeing that Christianity or Catholicism is fictional, but rather that he believes it is as fictional as the concept of a Vampire.. so it just seems a bit asinine to become visibly upset at a game for combining two "fictitious" concepts that are often placed in opposition to one another simply because you find yourself harboring a specific resentment against religion.

    I like watching Cohh, but sometimes it hurts seeing him being indecisive, back tracking too much even tho he is not doing 100% just for the sake of it. It wastes a shit ton of time, that's it
