It also gives chills, that song is so powerful and a reality in my life and my family's that God send His song to give us the "Amazing Grace" we could never deserve, but He did out of love and now because of that grace. When we accept Him and His Son we become a part of that song. That song will always resonate, not just in History, but when Yeshua comes back and reigns forever, we will see the "Amazing Grace" before our very own eyes.
When this unexpectedly came on after the movie completed. I balled like a baby. It was so beautiful, so calling. I can't imagine what home will sound like.
@@colinmontgomery1956this is how I rediscovered the film. I didn’t remember much, except that it was an extraordinary film about the slave trade, and this finale.
Agreed! I love how they do the four parts: 1. Single Pipe . 2. All Pipes. 3. Add Drums. 4. Add rest of full band. Brings goosebumps! The single piper marching up the middle is impressive!
Truly an underrated forgotten masterpiece, about the most underrated hero in British history. A man who devoted his entire life fighting against slavery within the British Empire.
His and William Pitt the Younger’s tombs were the first place i visited and paid my respects at the Abbey. It was an honor. Like you said, Wilberforce is truly underrated. It’s a great shame.
That shows you respected this song and these two men that Gid used in British History to restore healing and break the horrific crime of slavery in Great Britan.
Great movie, should be required viewing in U.K. and USA schools. As for the song. I have always felt it is the most inspirational and beautiful song ever written. This version, in particular, is THE most inspiring. Brings a tear to the eye and raises goosebumps. ❤️
One of my favorite movies. William Wilberforce is one of my heroes in history. The Providence of God is clearly seen in the story of John Newton and William Wilberforce.
One of my favorite renditions of this hymn. I was very pleasantly surprised when it began playing at the end of the movie. I don't know how many times I played the end credits just to hear this version of "Amazing Grace."
For by Grace we are saved...... Our eternal death penalty paid in full by the only acceptable sacrifice for all our sins....paid in full by our Creator Jesus, with his Divine Blood.....if we only......believe! That is Amazing Grace! And a whole lot of Mercy!
Only a true Love would give us "life" twice. We have no choice in or first birth, and we need only say the word for our souls to be healed, for our second birth. ❤
We played this as we laid my dearest brother John in his final resting place on the top of a hill under an ancient white pine in the pigeon river state forest. The tree whose roots are nourished by his remains is where ravens often land and rest. He would often sit on the hill and speak to his bird friends. As the pipes echoed through the forest ravens circle the small clearing and the pipes echoed across the land. I believe his spirt was with his raven friends. Words cannot express how much I miss my beloved brother. I soldier on in spite of my profound grief and remember him when ever I hear this song.
We had a celebration of life service , Tessie knew no stranger and loved Jesus more than sweet tea. They had a benediction, which three people were saved
I'm a musician, I love this version after the film. Because its real meaning lies in the story and of course with the native instruments of Scotland, Whales, and England it sounds even more amazing.
Wales! (Cymru). Yes, the Bagpipes (or similar version) were used in Wales up until about 17th century. Their versions were slightly smaller and were known locally as The Martial Pipes. They were only used in Battle, but they don't sound as nice as the Scottish Bagpipes.
One of the best movies ever made. The energy and dedication by those people was truly amazing. I.too believe No Man should be inslaved. Glad people are free today.
I completely agree with you on that but I feel drums were invented for this song as well because I play this song on the base drum in a pipe and drum band that is named after the famous famous brave and mighty and heroic and glorious and fantastic and fierce and stunning and stupendous and legendary and honorable and honored and spectacular black watch which is a British Canadian and Scottish infantry regiment and its currently the 3rd battalion of the royal regiment of Scotland 🏴
I love the fact that they did this casting call over one of the most beautiful versions of the hymn ever recorded. This was a relatively low budget film, but the number of big names in British acting shows that these people were in the project not for the money, but for the craft, or their beliefs.
When I hear this beautiful song all I can think of is our beautiful savior Jesus Christ who looked over my transgressions and gave me his grace anyway. He didn't have to he wanted to. Wow, what a love!
Some of my fellow pipers aren't always keen to play Amazing Grace as they view it as over played or too simplistic to impress listeners. I on the other hand like being able to create a moment of beauty in someone's life and something he/she will remember for ever. Amazing Grace was the first tune I learnt and for me will always be top of the list of pipers' Tunes of Glory.
To my brotha. Your taken away from us to soon. At your funeral I wish we played amazing grace as we lay you to rest. So may this song be our forever love and memory as you rest with our Heavenly Father.
Words written by a penitent slave ship captain who became a True Servant of God. Adapted to the music from a popular toon of the day I have been told. Many years later the last verse was added. Adopted from the book, "Uncle Tom's Cabin" by Harriet B. Stowe. I know of few other songs that have impacted the world as much as this one has. AND This particular arrangement and performance remains the very best I will ever hope to hear. My Grateful Thanks to the producers, musicians, actors, etc. who brought this story to all of us, since much of history is being maliciously rewritten or not taught at all in our schools.

On Wintley Phipps youtube he sings this song as well as giving the history behind it,,,,,,he says it was written by John Newton who was the Captain of an American Slave ship,,,,,,,,,the melody was unknown (a black slave)
Awesome film great soundtrack but why is it that people think that amazing grace was written by an american school boy.it was written by an ex slave ship captain called john newton.it has nothing to do with scotland either unless john newton was scottish.it just sounds great played by the pipes and drums.the argyle and sutherland highlanders played the music in the closing scene, sadly they were disbanded
Back in the 1970s the band of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards released a version which reached the number one spot in the U.K. charts and stayed there for several weeks and I suspect forever sealed the association of Amazing Grace with Scotland. Unfortunately I cannot find the accompanying video anywhere, it was very well done particularly where the lone piper transitioned to massed band.
For those who might be interested, a really good precursor to Lincoln and follow-on from Amazing Grace is the Steven Spielberg film Amistad, starring Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins and Matthew McConaughey. The film focussed on a trial involving "slaves" illegally taken by Spanish slavers from Sierra Leone (then part of the British Empire where slavery had been outlawed) who were imprisoned in the U.S. and charged with murder after they killed some of the crew of the Spanish slave ship they had been imprisoned on. Despite considerable efforts by the U.S. government of the day to have the "slaves" convicted and executed due to the government's fear of a possible slave rebellion or civil war in the U.S. if the "slaves" were freed, the trial (which took place in the decades before the American Civil War) went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court which ultimately freed the "slaves". Like Amazing Grace, it is a really powerful film and well worth watching.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ought to use this as their wedding march. They should invite the bagpipers and bands from the Scots Guards and the Black Watch to play at their wedding.
