  • Stress is perfectly natural. Everyone experiences the occasional stress. It’s not something we should be very afraid of. However, chronic stress - the stress you stay in for longer periods of time - leads to motivation issues, health problems and sometimes even burn-out. In this talk, psychologist Thijs Launspach explains what we often get wrong about stress: it’s an individual thing, yes, but also a work problem. As people also get ill from their environments, we need a human revolution in the workplace, Launspach explains. It’s high time we treat workers not like productivity machines, but as human beings.
    Thijs Launspach (1988) is a Dutch psychologist, (TEDx-)speaker and (best-selling) author. He is a teacher at The School of Life in Amsterdam, and his book Crazy Busy: keeping sane in a stressful world has just been released at Capstone / Wileys. Launspach speaks and writes about how to improve and maintain mental health in a world that’s growing ever more complicated. The more challenging the times that we’re living through - both at our jobs and outside of our work - the stronger we have to be mentally, Launspach says. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

    Great talk! It's quite astonishing that companies could care less about what research has shown about happier workers. This was demonstrated in MANY sectors over the pandemic.

    Thank you so much. This was an excellent presentation. I had a high pressure high stress job that I retired from at the end of 2018. I was completely burned out. In 2019 I got sick with ANCA vasculitis. This is an illness "that is not well understood". That is what the physician told me when I was hospitalized 1/9/2020 for 11 days. Its not well understood because there is an emotional component. Without treatment 50% of ppl die at the 5 month mark, 90% at one year.
    Im doing well. After conventional medical intervention I have employed a lot of my o wn techniques like meditation, Nucca chiropractor, acupuncture, clean eating, breathing techniques and also other stress management behaviors like the epley manuver and various stretching exercises along with exercise. Of course Im not at the job anymore but life has a lot of stressors that need to be managed. So I wanted you to know you taught me that lack of motivation can be caused by stress. I didnt know that. Im grateful to you for this presentation. I learned something and I will put that information in my health arsenal. Thank you. Melinda Rhodes

    The smartest thing that should be on everyone's mind right now should be to invest in different streams of income that are not dependent on the government. Especially with the current economic crisis around the world. This is still a good time to invest in gold, silver, and digital currencies (BTC ETH...).

    I work a full time job. I don't take vacation time because if I do, my work only piles up and when I return I have to work twice as hard & fast to catch back up. There is noone here to take my place when I am absent. I work through all holidays and have missed family events. Yes, I've even worked when sick. I was allowed one week off for covid but had to return due to work backing up. "Stress" is an understatement! I am now on medication for high blood pressure....and I'm still working.

    This may be the best use of word toxicity. Because the mechanism is identical to chemical poisoning. And there must be corresponding PDEs established to behavioral exposure, while some practices totally banned just like asbestos.

    많은 사람들이 현실적으로 꼭 진지하게 생각해 보아야 하는 문제. 생계를 넘어 생존도 위협할 수 있는 문제가 바로 스트레스고 번어아이므로!

    Americans are known to be exceedingly exploited. Vacation time is rare and is often cashed in for money to still work more. The pressures of the workforce are extreme. Unions are difficult to start and always looked down on by the companies, if not broken outright.

      @@PaulADAigle It really is. I’d be sacked in a heart beat if I worked there. “What do you mean you went to a gym class at lunch?” “What do you mean you can’t join a call at 5am because you are in bed?” And- to top it of they’re always so chirpy. I need to check myself in!!

    • @PaulADAigle
      @PaulADAigle 11 месяцев назад +3

      @@MARTYNEJHARRIS It's worse than that. If you step back to see the bigger picture, it shows the companies are obtusely abusive in passing out jobs. My personal problem was I couldn't get a full job as there were none, but had to contract only. All the positions were filled with contractors. This meant I had to take less wage to share it with the contract agency, to be put in a job that would automatically end after a year. Period. No more contracting for 3+ months. Then I'd have to re-interview, even if it was the same position. Every F'n year!
