  • Ca'rrauntoohil is Ireland's tallest mountain at 3,414 ft high. It is part of the Macgillycuddy reeks mountain range in county Kerry in the south western part of Ireland. If you travel on the ring of Kerry towards Killorglin, you will see sign posts for the Gap of Dunloe and Carrauntoohil. You will end up at your destination in Cronin's yard where the trail begins and ends.
It will take you about one hour twenty minutes to reach the base of Carrauntoohil. The average round trip to the summit and back takes about five and a half hours. It is an amazing picturesque climb on a sunny bed.

Hillwalking in ireland in jeans is extremely dangerous once they get wet they say wet .You were lucky it was a good day,but as i said if you had wet weather the jeans just absorbs and retains water puting the wearer at great risk of getting hypothermia or pneumonia.

Great video. I did it yesterday. Same route- with Pat Falvey. What a man he is. Weather was lovely until we got up the ladder and then it went crazy with wind and rain. Be prepared for any weather would be my advice. What a buzz it was.

Hi Don. Congratulations on summiting Irelands highest mountain. Your video is amazing, so honest and humble. You have done the mountain justice. Your feelings of joy are 100% accurate. I first climbed 14 years ago, and the feeling you described so well brought me to many mountains since, including Everest Base Camp and Island Peak, with legend Pat Falvey. I hope others are encouraged to experience the joy and achievement you felt in your video. Hope to bump into you on the mountains!
