      Rather than a fun fact, I would call retiring national hockey jersey numbers an embarrassing fact. The practice has become familiar from clubs, where it is fitting to honour, for example, a player's dedication to the club. Playing for the national team is a matter of honour and should not be rewarded with ridiculous national team jersey retirement ceremonies.
      The abandonment of this practice is one of the very few acts of the Finnish Ice Hockey Association worthy of bowing one's head in recent years.

    Barkov is modern leader. He doesn't try tobe above others, he does everything he can for the team and leads by example. It is easy to follow guy like this, when he really fights for you and the team. Only thing he asks is that everyone gives their best effort, and only way you can ask that is by giving it by yourself every day 24/7.

    • @Nigoliz
      @Nigoliz 4 месяца назад

      @@fatidicusaeternus6498 yeah of course there have been leaders like this, but if you look at history of leadership in general (hierarchial aspects, authority, demand for "respect" etc) Barkov stands out for more modern scholarship. Maybe it is because I have studied this subject in university, but Barkov stands out more with qualities in modern leadership theories. You know in sports there have been really hierarchical systems also and there are still today in some ways many old traditions based on these (like how young players are received). Modern leadership tends to be more about low hierarchy and "part of the team", helping others, as more traditional systems made leaders something that you should fear and respect (army style), and that leaders should be loud and clear if someone doesn't meet their expectations. If you look at hockey couches it is very easy to see how some couches try to break barriers between the coach and players, and others tend to put themselves in a superior position against players. It's a lot about personality but also a lot about learned values and systems these players or coaches went through. So Barkov is kind of an example setter who believes guys around him are professionals and don't need the stick and rules but an example to follow, and carrot (the cup) is obviously always there. Then there are those personalities that believe more in loud message and demanding results from their team. This suits some personalities (if they really look up at this captain or couch) but can lead to resistance inside the team. It might be better style when there are players that need an extra kick on the ass to perform better.. But then again if this kind of captain doesn't play with all of his heart for the team (for example in D-zone) other players will also easily start to rebel against giving it all.

Which isnt to put down those players because they are great, but it shows how scary it truly is to watch Barkov play and when he isn't scoring, he is doing even more to stop the other team from utilizing their weapons and it's noticeable. He may no longer be underrated these days because the playoff success forced people to watch, it still seems like a lot of people, mostly casuals, still don't grasp just how valuable he is. He's the most complete player in the world, and can take over the game in whatever manner he chooses. With his recognition it's time to pass the the underrated crown to Forsling, who's a true shutdown DMan

    As a Finnish person, I am extremely glad to see Sasha Barkov finally getting the recognition he deserves! I've been watching his career since he was a junior playing in finnish top League and even then, as a 16-17-yo teenager he had the "game-eye" or whatchacallit, what make him look like those old school legendary players that always seemed to be in no hurry 'cause they knew where the game would be in like 3-10-seconds from now and that gave them, and Barkov now, the edge, the benefit to read the game and make it so much easier and effective for himself and especially all his teammates as well!
    Barkov is a true leader, modest dude and though not usually the noisiest, but leads by example, setting the bar high in every aspect of playing and training in everyday life, that is now finally getting the rewards with 2 stanley cup finals on the row and of course the crown last season! And I think Panthers are going to be in the very top for years now.
    Now let's see in the winter when Sasha will lead Finnish national team to victory in the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off!! 💪😅🤟

    Jagr really showed Sasha love and it was at the end of Jagr's NHL career so the lessons were so much different than if Sasha was with Jagr in his prime. The Panthers have been to the post season 10 times with 3 SCFs appearances. Barkov took them to 6/10 playoff seasons and 2/3 SCFs. 2x Selke winner, capable of 30-40+ goals but sacrifices goals for the most complete 200 ft play that Gretzky has seen since Trottier but doesn't sacrifice too much to where he isn't making an impact offensively either, took the Panther's to a President Trophy season, then back to back ECFs wins, with back to back SCFs appereances to become the 5th Finnish Captain to raise the Stanley Cup for the franchise that drafted him and got the Panthers their first Cup. To average a ppg while playing on 3 lines, locking down opposition's best on the first line, creating space and almost unstoppable while on the puck, on point poke checks and the best stick lifts I've seen without getting to many PIM, on the powerplay 1 line where he plays a great behind the net 1-3-1 set up thats dynamic, and plays the opposition's best on the PK line being short handed. Now we have Barky, Tkaclutch, Reino, Baby Barkov, and Forsling locked in for at least another 6 years together and he's not even in his 30s yet.

      The panthers won game 1 solely on the back of Bobrovsky. The Panthers were thoroughly out played that game and it was only Bobrovsky's goaltending that saved them. I'm not sure how well Barkov shut down him down considering Connor McDavid scored 11 points in 7gp. McDavid had 2 games where he scored 4 points. I'm not sure you want to bring up game 6 either consider the panthers lost that game 5-1 despite McDavid not recording a point. If Bob didn't have that stellar game 1, considering the momentum the Oilers had in games 4-6, that series is over in Edmonton and Barkov would've been flying back to Sunshine wondering where it all went wrong.

However, to just ignore that those two games alone contributed to 8 of his 11 points across the series (the other three came from game 2 (1A) and game 3 (2A)) and only say that he had 11 points in the series without that context is in extremely bad faith. Thank you... I've been preaching for seasons about how poor McDefence? is as a 200 foot player; I'd rather have a Barkov any day on my team; Crosby, McKinnon even. Close to as dangerous offensively, but 500% better defensively. McDavid is NOT the "best hockey player in the world"; not by a long shot. He IS getting better, as his +/- stats alone show, as he's climbed up from scoring 100 points and having even more scored against him... The new Oilers coach helped a lot just this season (About time someone had the guts to tell him he out to realize there are 3 zones in hockey!). But even still, you could make a 30 minute compilation from just this season even, on (what you call) McDavid's "offensive instincts"; I call a spade a spade: his offensive cheating & lack of defensive awareness (or his just no caring? Hard to believe a player of his skill does not know where he SHOULD be; he just "cheats" all, all, ALL the time)... and he sits SO OFTEN in the empty no-man's land with the best seat in the house watching other teams score on his goalie... Until he learns how to play like Barkov, Crosby, et al. he's arguably the 'best pure offensive talent' in the game, but no where near the 'best player' in the game. Cheers, GREAT video breakdown (and I know I focus on McD here, but you said all that needs to be said about Barkov: beautiful player!)
