This young crooner was a MAJOR COMPOSER! He wrote Sinatra's SIGNATURE song, "My Way." He wrote "She's a Lady" for Tom Jones. He co-wrote three songs with Michael Jackson. He even wrote the theme for The Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.
Also co wrote Real Love with Michael McDonald
Didn’t he write the movie theme song for “The Longest Day”?
He did not write "My way". It is a French song released in 1967 and was very popular there before Frank Sinatra started singing it in 1969. Paul Anka merely adpated the English version. He did however write many other popular songs
'My Way' is a french song Anka adapted. The French version is wonderful.
@@mauricecohen3830 The first guy to take a crack at an English language version of that French song "Comme D’Habitude" was a young man David Jones, better known as David Bowie.
He was a good singer, but he was a GREAT song writer. Everyone did his songs in the 60's.
In the 70's too
Irony... he did everybody's songs in his 60s en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rock_Swings en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_Songs,_My_Way
Not was her is still kicking around o believe!
And the song he made his fortune on? the theme of the Tonight Show starring Johnny Carson.
Watching Amber absolutely fall for Paul's voice was a beautiful thing to watch.
I know right? ..it's just so genuine and wholesome~
Yes it was!!
Paul was about 18 years old at the time of this song's release. He is now 80, and still recording and doing live shows. His latest single, "Making Memories" debuted in August. His catalogue of recordings is incredible, and his music have been recorded by many artists.
I think Amber would love Johnny Mathis; his voice is beautiful. 'Chances are', is one of my favourites by him.
That's the perfect choice to follow this up!
He would be an Excellent choice!!
Yes , Sally! Took the words right out of my head! Johnny Mathis: Chances Are, When Sunny Gets Blue, it’s Not For me to Say, Wonderful, Wonderful & the whole dang Christmas album where he’s standing with his skis! ❤️
So good
YES! Amber needs to hear Johnny Mathis!
Best comment ever from Tom Jones when he described kissing a woman’s hand in the audience and realised her husband was next to her. He apologised to the man saying it was just a bit of fun and the guy said “ No worries Tom, you pump up the tyres and I’ll ride the bike!!! “ Classic comeback😂😂😂
Paul Anka was so cute and his singing was so sexy! The girls and I would swoon when we saw him on Tv! He wrote many songs for other artists and they were big hits! We liked him even more!
Hey he just warming her up for the guy. He doing him a favor😅
I'm definitely using that line lol
This young fella just stole your grandma's heart.
Thank you. I used to sing this song to my late wife for the 14 years we were married. She passed in 1985. Can't deny this one brings some tears.
So sorry to hear that Dale. Hope you have a wonderful day
Take care my friend. She was blessed to have you sing it to her as you were to have a true love.Makes me tear up for my wife who passed away after almost 52 years together.
@@billhoppe2991 So sorry to hear that Bill. I couldnt imagine losing my wife. Stay strong Sir.
So sorry. We will see our loved one's again soon, but in a much better place than this.
So sorry brother
Paul Anka, Neil Sedaka, and Carole King probably wrote a hundred of hits for themselves and others during the 50s-70s
Yes!!! About 2 years ago I saw the play about her “Beautiful” it was so good!!! Also there’s a documentary called “The Brill Building: A Documentary” & a Docu-Series on Netflix called “This Is Pop” it’s the last on in the series called “Brill Building in 4 songs”
Yes I have mentioned Carole King. Can’t wait until they hear her.
The Broadway musical Beautiful is fantastic! My son got me a ticket for my birthday and I had tears at the end of it. I was trying to hide them and looked over and my son did as well. Carole King is an amazing talent!
A real icon of the 60's. He wrote My Way for Sinatra. Still doing concerts.
'My Way' is set to the music of the French song "Comme d'habitude" composed and written by French songwriters Claude François and Jacques Revaux and first performed in 1967 by Claude François. Its English lyrics were written by Paul Anka and are unrelated to the original French song.
And don't forget "You're Having My Baby"
@@andreaschmall5560 Heehee. He got in trouble for that one!
@@andreaschmall5560 yes I love that song I think that songt was a response to the Roe versus Wade supreme Court decision in the early seventies with heated abortion rights battle
@@georgeplagianos6487 I know that it was played at an awful lot of baby showers.
Jay and Amber, Paul Anka was, indeed, a pop crooner in the late 50s-60s, but he was also a music producer. He and Kris Kristofferson "discovered" John Prine then Paul Anka produced him. It was so fun to watch y'all view this Paul Anka vid. And, my boy J, pay attention to our girl Amber reacts...she's right on it!
Great reaction! Amber, I have to say you are wrong. Your laugh is genuine and infectious, not at all obnoxious. I always appreciate someone who isn’t afraid or embarrassed to express their pure joy in what they are experiencing. Keep it up, and laugh!
Totally awesome couple!!!!
Indeed, you two are the cutest couple on YT... and I love the way you enjoy music. And I love your laugh, puts a huge smile in my face.
Noticed you two are true romantics, otherwise how you could appreciate such a lovely song. Go Canada 🇨🇦
Amber you are beautiful inside and out, please so not change anything!!!!
Amber, your initial reaction is THE definition of “swooning”. But every young girl in the 50’s and 60’s did the same thing with singers like Paul Anka, Elvis, Perry Como, Andy Williams, Frankie Valli, and so many others.
Yes, these singers and songs are what the girls called, "dreamy"!
You could see her fall in love during the very first line!
My eyes adore you by Frankie Valli
Paul was 18 when he did this song.
Frankie Avalon was dreamy. So was Ricky Nelson. Their songs may not be considered classics but at 12 I certainly loved them.
You've got to hear Ricky Nelson sing Traveling Man or Fools Rush In or Garden Party. Super smooth! Or Bobby Vinton...Roses are Red or Blue Velvet.
Yes please.
Blue velvet... oh man I forgot about that. Flashback!
@@eileen9584 Bobby Vinton sang Blue Velvet
Yes, Ricky Nelson. Such a doll with a great voice.
Yes to both. Ricky Nelson was also impossibly attractive.
Paul was 15 when his first hit "Diana" was released in 1957, "Put your head-on my shoulder" was released August of 1959, which both of these first 2 hits were also written by Paul. Paul went on to become a huge teen idol, wrote, hit after hit, not only for himself, and many many other artists. he had just turned 18, by a month when this song was released. Paul went on the have a long career as an adult, and remained a heart throb for the ladies. Paul is 80 today and will occasionally still perform in Vegas. He was on the Masked Singer in 2020....still has it...lol
Paul Anka wrote the opening music for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. He's a super singer/songwriter. He's worthy of the Rock N Roll HOF
In reality you guys have barely scratched the surface of 1950s and early sixties be it crooners or rock pioneers. Three greats from that era all passed away “the day the music died” Feb 3 1959. You could do them on a day Buddy Holly (That’ll be the day or Peggy Sue just to name a couple) Ritchie Valens (La Bamba or Donna) and JP “The Big Bopper” Richardson (Chantilly Lace) three great pioneers of rock who left us together and way to early.
Paul Anka wrote "It Doesn't Matter Anymore" that was one of the songs Buddy did in his final recording session before the plane crash.
Too, too early.
Yes
He was a contestant last season on “The Masked Singer”… at 80 years old! Still going strong!
I still can't believe people watch that show.
@@michaellynch5254 its fun ok?
@@michaellynch5254 You don’t have to watch it, but don’t ruin the fun for everybody else. I was just stating a fact about Paul Anka.
I recognized his voice immediately. How fun to see him after so many years.
@@olivegreenpants7153 it was fun at first, then became boring and repetitive.
Paul Anka was amazing and yes, a crooner!!! You need to listen to more of him!!!
Amber's reaction was just our reaction at that time. Paul Anka was a cutie pie. I was only 9 years old at the time but all us pre-teens loved him also. He was 18 years old when wrote and recorded this song. He wrote many songs including My Way for Frank Sinatra which was one of Frank's biggest hits.
Paul Anka is a class act and one of the great song-writers. One of the few who went from teen idol to successful adult musician with no drug abuse or crazy scandals. True talent indeed.
A great Canadian.....
Paul was 18 when he recorded this song. He had many hits and wrote many for other entertainers. A couple of good songs -
“Puppy Love
Diana
Time to cry
When my dad first met my mom he said oh don't tell me your name is Diana. She loved it because it was big when they met. The rest was history.
Later on hits like: You’re Having My Baby, Times of Your Life and I Don’t Like to Sleep Alone in the 1970s
I thought he was 15 when he did this.
Yes Diana
@@sparklemotion1164 for his babysitter: I’m so young and you’re so old, this my darling I’ve been told… 😏
You guys are hilarious. Such a sweet couple, laughing together. So refreshing. Love your relationship
He wrote "MY Way". What's left to say. He has written so many hits.
Mega hit maker and hit records he has written for other singers. The girls went nuts!! He started at 16 I think with the rest of the icons, Bobby Rydell, Fabian and Frankie Avalon all in their late 70's and still doing huge shows. All their shows are sold out.
I thought he started at 13.
I believe Paul was only 18 when this one was released. He was FANTASTIC!
He wrote She's a lady for Tom Jones My Way for Frank Sinatra co-wrote with Michael Jackson
Paul Anka was 18 when he recorded this. He won awards for songwriting and composing -- as well has his lovely voice recordings!
Love your laugh, Amber. You are just getting more adorable every day. ❤️ Jay is a lucky guy.
Paul Anka's big hit - "Diana"
He's a legendary composer too!
He wrote and sang this song when he was 15. He went on to sing and write some classics like “my way” for Sinatra!!
He’s now 80yrs old.
This song brings back memories of school dances in the gym in junior high! It was definitely the MOST romantic song out and you really wanted to be with someone special when you danced to it. Amber, your reaction to his voice is the very definition of “swooning.” And to think, he was only 16!
I think it's impossible to watch Paul Anka singing this song and not fall in love with him
Also check out Paul’s “Lonely Boy” and “Puppy Love”! “Put Your Head On My Shoulder” and these other two all went to #1 in 1959. I was 9. Another hit from 59’-60’ was Larry Hall & “Sandy”. I love it because he was my 9 yr older brother’s best friend in high school & came over a lot and recorded his voice on my parent’s reel to reel tape recorder. He was even on Dick Clark’s American Bandstand twice in 1960.
He was about 19 when this came out. Notably, he wrote songs for many people like Tom Jones, Michael Jackson and wrote the theme for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Loved watching your reaction to his voice. My mom saw him in person around the time of this video at Coney Island in NY. As he sang he walked around the small , outdoor stage, kids girls hands. As he got close to my mom and her boyfriend, he boyfriend said, out loud, he better not kiss my girls hand. And he didn't kiss her hand, he bent down and missed her on her cheek. Needless to say, that was the end of that date. I still love listening to him sing. God bless you!
We slow danced to this song at so many dances, so many proms, this brings me back to first loves and and junior high!! Thank you for appreciating our songs!
Paul is Canadian and started performing when he was 16. His voice deepened and got richer in tone as he got older.
If you guys want 1950's there is not many better than Buddy Holly. One of the most influential artists of all time.
Love Buddy Holly
Let's not forget Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper
Buddy Holly is my absolute favorite I can't wait for them to hear him. My favorite by him is Everyday
Another one that I'd forgot to mention is Eddie Cochrane
Here for a short time not a long time but what a time he gave 🤘
He also wrote "Hold Me Til The Morning Comes" with David Foster which he recorded with Peter Cetera on very prominent background vocals.... great, very under-rated song!
I was the 1st 3rd grader to ever hear this song and actually fell in love and had funny feelings lol this song will always mean something to me thank you for playing it
💐Don't ever say your laugh is annoying Amber. It's beautiful & infectious! I love that you did this song! Paul Anka is incredible. Another of the Doo-Wop era that you need to hear is Neil Sedaka. I would suggest 'King of Clowns' and 'Breaking Up is Hard to Do'. You really can't go wrong with any of his songs. Enjoy!🤗
Yes love that laugh don’t don’t ever stop! No way obnoxious
Don’t forget the young Conway Twitty “ Its Only Make Believe “ so many greats from that era.can’t name them all, at least I can’t.
The record company that discovered Paul Anka label decided to release his Diana, a song Anka wrote for a girl he had a crush on back in Ottawa, Canada, as the artist's first single. Within weeks, the 16-year-old had the No. 1 song in the world.
I've followed you guys for a while now, and your insight into music has grown tremendously. It's so easy to see the difference between your earliest and most recent videos. I thank both of you for letting us have front row seats on this journey. It gives us that grew up with this music so much joy to see someone hear it for the first time.
I'm 73. My generation grew up with the best music in the world!
Such a prolific songwriter too. He had hits in the 70’s with “ You’re Having My Baby” & “Memories” which became a HUGE TV campaign for Kodak.
Amber turned into a teenage girl from the 50’s when she heard this - remarkable!
Yeah, someone needs to send her a poodle skirt now 🐩
Right before our eyes!😁
I know right 👍
Paul would have been 19. Wrote "My Way" (Sinatra's signature song), "Diana" so many more. He and Neil Sedaka were singer songwriters of the 50's and 60's. Johnny Mathis is iconic crooner from same time. Frankie Avalon and Bobby Rydell must hear from then as well.
I grew up listening to Paul Anka; one of my mother’s favorites. This song came out her Junior year of high school.
Paul Anka is a major player in the musical world. Composer, lyricist, producer then singer!
Paul Anka is still performing today at 80 years young and sounds amazing for his age. He's had so many hit songs in his long career, not just the ones he recorded himself but the ones he wrote for so many others over the decades. One of my favorite song that he recorded is "A Steel Guitar & A Glass Of Wine", and I love the steel guitar here.
He's a crooner but the genre is do-wop. He's still singing.
correct!
My Daddy used to sing this song--he played the guitar and sang so beautifully. I miss him so...
Thank you for reviewing this song...brings back such memories
Paul Anka recorded a song titled " Times of your life" back in the 70's. It was a great song that was also used by Kodak in their advertisements.
I would pay money to see Amber's reaction to hearing Blood, Sweat, and Tears for the first time. Patiently waiting.....
Another legend to come out of Canada. Singer, songwriter, legend, he's behind so many classics... INCLUDING Frankie's "My Way" (which he wrote). He also wrote "She's a Lady" for Tom Jones, and he even penned the theme music for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson! Some of his best include "Diana", "Lonely Boy", and "(You're) Having My Baby". He's 80 years young, and even appeared on The Masked Singer last year!
How did I miss him on The Masked Singer?!?
@@rosemarymagrino772 He was on season 4. He was The Broccoli.
Yess😂
Paul Anka is a Canadian 🇨🇦heart throb, who made the young women cry & swoon! Paul has been a fixture in Vegas for many years, he has written so many songs, some for Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones,Michael Jackson, show stoppers!
Amber was melting the way girls did back in the 50’s 💎💜
I was in my late teens when we went to out San Diego County Fair. Paul was the headline stage show. After he allowed anyone that wanted a personal autograph to just come back stage. All my sisters were going wild as we got closer. Admittedly, so did I. Great Guy
.
A song often overlooked is Runaway by Del Shannon. Also, He's A Rebel by The Crystal's which would be good for female Friday.
Such great suggestions
Paul was just a talented kid from Ottawa, Ontario. Much love for the Ank!
Paul Anka is still performing...and still great!!
I loved revisiting Paul Anka...been a long time. His "Diana" was good, too..and "You are My Destiny"etc. Would like to hear 14 or 15 yr old Brenda Lee's "Sorry" and "Rockin Around the Christmas Tree" if you haven't already reacted to her.
80 and still going strong, born in 1941 in Ottawa Canada, Paul Anka started out very young with the hit "Diana" which sold millions of copies and set him up as a top teen idol with prolific songwriting abilities. He also appeared in several films, headlined a Vegas act, hosted TV variety shows and wrote hits for other singers like Frank Sinatra and Tom Jones. He rose to the top of the charts again with the 1974 duet "You're Having My Baby."
I had suggested this song a while back when you were pregnant and although you have now had your little boy I still think you would enjoy this song. I would love to hear your reaction!
Love from Canada :)
Johnny Mathis “Chances Are”.
A+
Paul Anka was one of those songwriters in the Brill Building in New York with Neil Sedaka and so many others who wrote hundreds of hits for all kinds of artists. They called it "Tin Pan Alley." By the way, Paul Anka wrote "My Way" for Frank Sinatra. Must listen.
I absolutely love your reaction to this one! Amber’s reaction the firar time the chorus comes, I mean, I bet every female feels like that when they hear this🥰 Hugs from Sweden!
Curtis Lee "Pretty Little Angel Eyes"
Phil Phillips "Sea Of Love"
Eddie Cochran "Summer Time Blues"
The Silhouettes "Get A Job"
Great choice Guys I love that you’re getting to these songs and the all-time singers keep it up please!
Paul Anka had a major career comeback in the 1970’s. My favorite of his from that era is “Times of Our Lives”.
The opening lines are, “Good morning, yesterday, you wake up and time and has slipped away…”
Gets me every single time…
It is so much fun watching young people of today reacting favorably and excitedly to the singers and songs of my era!
Paul was 16 when he wrote and sang his first #1 hit "Diana" to his baby sitter - he went on writing many hits - some he sang but most for others - most became HITS Another early 50's hit Frankie Avalon "Oh Venus"
Probably the first Paul Anka song I ever heard was when Donny Osmond covered Puppy Love. (Donny released it in 1972, but Paul Anka wrote and released it in 1959). Sweet song. Both of them sang it well.
I've always loved Paul Anka. So classy, so talented, so smooth...
Great reaction guys. And by the way your laugh is not obnoxious, it’s endearing. Just so you know :-)
Paul Anka is from my home town of Ottawa, ON Canada. My mother in law always enjoyed reminding us that she used to babysit him when she was a teen. Others have mentioned his amazing composing skills but I do believe you would enjoy 'Diana' and/or 'Having my baby'
You have a joyful laugh Amber and a gorgeous smile! Don't ever try to stop either 😘
We all need to laugh and smile more 💖💖💖
I love how Jay has taken it upon himself to redefine what a crooner is. LOL! Paul is an icon, and as others have noted his songwriting career was equal to or greater than his singing career. I am pretty sure he is still regularly performing in Branson, Missouri.
It’s so delightful to see Amber come over all “unnecessary!” Such a sweet look.
It's mind-blowing to see you two loving the music that I grew up with! IMO '50s-'60s songs are the best ever. And the number of cute teen idols we had was unbelievable. Another great Paul Anka song is "You Are My Destiny".
I nominate this for most hilarious RSR reaction ever. Who's with me? Amber melted, and Jay knows the crooner game: "We're sittin' in the back!!"
I love these young people,, they have come into my life, just when I needed somebody, I'm 78, my wife of 39 yrs passed 10 months ago, I needed a reason to be happy, they have filled a huge void in my heart, Love them and those beautiful babies !!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
He was very SMOOTH 👌
Have not heard Paul Anka in years. He is from my home town of Ottawa Ontario Canada. He was a big deal here for a long time. Major street by the airport named after him Paul Anka Drive. He has lived in the States for like 50 years but always had time too throw his cash or time behind causes here. Paul Anka carried some major pull in my city and was all for the good. Personally he is not my thing musically but the man has major respect from me. Thanks for this one. Peace
He wrote My Way for Frank Sinatra. He continued with hits in the 70s, including You're Having My Baby. He was super talented as a writer and singer since he was a teen.
Paul Anka was one of the top teen idols of his day. But he turned out to be a great songwriter. He charted all the way up into the 70's
Paul Anka was one of the most prolific songwriters of all time, He's written over 10,000 songs like My Way and the Tonight Show theme She's A Lady.
Another great Canadian talent. He has one son and 5 daughters. All of his daughters names start with an A. He was born in 1941 so he was only 18 when he did this song. Oh and his daughter Amanda is married to Jason Bateman. Love you guys
I can only say that you are getting better every show. Thoughts from an old fart that grew up with this music. Thank you.
This was the time of sweet, innocent & romantic songs. Not like a lot of the garbage played today. It was a completely different era.
Like being lied to about real life!
Paul Anka was 18 yrs old there. He already had hits under his belt. He wrote a lot of songs for a lot of stars. He also wrote alot of commercial jingles. I loved his music from the ‘70s. Yea he became super famous. Definitely a crooner 🔥
"You feel like he's talking to you."
Super astute! He played a role in a movie that described exactly that happening with a troubled young woman.
yes, amber, i was born the end of '54, and even listening to him as a child in the '60"s, yes, he did make you melt lol!
This is baby making music. Great choice and your reaction priceless.
Next you should do Having my baby.
Your laugh is infectious, not obnoxious. Y'all's reactions are great. You hit on music I grew up with, Frank Sinatra, Tom Jones, Paul Anka. Try Tony Bennett, another great voice. He's still performing I believe, he sang with Lady Gaga not too long ago. Best to you and your family.🎶💜✌
Paul Anka is a Creative Force, him and Carole King gave the world SO MUCH MUSIC that everybody knows and can sing along to that you never knew who wrote it, either Paul or Carole. Absolute Creative Forces
If you notice, most of the crooners are not conventionally “attractive”. Yet, as soon as they open their mouths you can totally understand why they were surrounded by adoring women. It’s an interesting phenomenon to me.
Paul Anka has a very deep catalog, so Jordan, he could keep you busy for a while! Great reaction guys.
P.S. Amber, that color looks so pretty on you!
Thank you for playing Paul Anka for us older seniors. I saw him in Las Vagas in 1969. He got on stage with the Temptations and he played the drums, the piano and guitar. So talented. I was a pre-teen when I first heard him sing this song. You need play Neil Sedaka music. He's another awesome singer from the 50's and 60's. Love their music! ❤❤❤
I’m still working through your videos but I just want to tell you how very special you both are. You have brought such joy to me during a really dark time in my life and I just want you to know you are appreciated. Thank you for just being yourselves and enjoying music with us - it’s beautiful to watch your reactions to some of the best music ever committed to vinyl. ❤
When my grandson was born my son sent out his notification along with the song Having My Baby. It was a huge hit for him in 1974. He was one of a few singer/songwriters that made it big doing both.
I so appreciate your reacting to this older music! This was a huge hit my mom’s senior of high school, so you can imagine it was the “prom song”.
Paul Anka!!! I was 2 and loved him!! 😂 He had an amazing career! Diana, Lonely Boy, and in the 70’s “Having My Baby” was a huge hit!!
I saw Paul Anka in Chile. My father invited me to his concert in 2016. He came in walking thru the crowd singing his first song while we thought he was going to be on stage. Amzingly humble man, loves his fans, great voice still. True talent and old school gentleman. Beautiful music. He also sang the song This is it. Dedicated to Michael Jackson which he wrote for him.
Love this song. This was my parents generation and Paul Anka is an Icon.
My dad used to rock the same hairstyle with Brylcream. 💜
My dad used Brylcream - one morning I accidently brushed my teeth with it since it also was white and came in a white tube - woke up in a hurry!
