He was the First Successful Artist to come out of Canada. He was in a class all by himself because he "Wrote" what he Sang and that was something that his fellow Teen Idols, Frankie Avalon, Fabian, & Bobby Rydell (who was the inspiration for Rydell High in Grease). He also wrote "She's A Lady" for Tom Jones and "My Way" which is next to "Yesterday" written by that "Other" Paul as in McCartney the most covered song in Pop Music. He also did the Theme "Johnny's Theme" for The Tonight Show that was used from 1962-1992 in America. He also along with The Isley Brothers, and Smokey Robinson a Man who has had Hits in every single Decade from the 1950's onward. Also he did a Remake with Olivia Newton John that went to Number On on The Adult Contemporary Chart. The Show you are watching him on is The Dick Clark Saturday Night Beechnut Show which was his First Show outside of American Bandstand in 1959 roughly. Also if you can check out Neil Sedaka who also "Wrote" what he sang.

@laminage...A lot of people forget or do not know that a couple of years before Paul Anka sang his several hits in the late 50's (his first hit in 1957 was "Diana"), a very successful group of singers also from Canada called the Diamonds hit it big with several records (16 Billboard records starting in 1955) including their dance hit The Stroll in 1957 and their enormous hit Little Darlin' also in 1957 which still gets played today as an oldie goldie. The group was also pretty comical when they sang that song live...see link below (a colorized version of a 1957 clip from a TV appearance I think). You will note that the RUclips video below has almost 9 million views and the song has many versions posted on RUclips including one showing clips from the movie American Graffiti with over 14 million views. I also have linked below a black and white video but a 2018 remastered stereo version of the song also from RUclips.

Paul Anka was 16 or 17 here, he also wrote songs for the likes of Tom Jones "She's a lady", Frank Sinatra "My Way", Connie Francis, Annette Funicello, co wrote with Michael Jackson "This is it", The Johnny Carson Show theme and so many more, and had so many hits himself. Such a talented singer/ songwriter 💞😊
